Summing up the grim news.

slice 1 - done
slice 2 - multiple open brackets. not going to fill.
slice 3 - 728 5h ago. not going to fill.
slice 4 - 804 13h ago. incredibly slim shot at filling.
slice 5 - 928 now. Only gained 28 in 9 hours. Needs to pick up to fill.

Basically zero chance of filling unless there is a mad rush this afternoon.

as a side note: this bracket has been open since sometime between Friday evening and Saturday afteroon (US East Coast time) and will not fill before the event ends. So waiting on slice 4 seems like a losing proposition these days. . .

Edit: Serious respect to anyone who held out for slice 5. It takes a lot of nerve to wait out the first 7 days of a 7.5 day event. (Not sure if I want slice 5 to fill before the end since it would mean that I just wasted the last 5 days grinding like mad for a single cover while others get 2-4 covers for no effort at all. )

I'm not doing it out of nerve, personally, I'm doing it because I have no genuinely good choices for a time slice (basically, my only real options are 7 am or 11 pm, and they both involve losing sleep) and I'm not willing to disrupt my sleep for a full week just for some covers. If I had a time slice from 8-10 pm, I'd be a lot more willing to grind for a week.

I'll get Ant-Man out of the dedicated month-long, in any case, and even if I thought I'd get 4 covers for Ant-Man, a week worth of lousy sleep just isn't worth it. There's a reason I've essentially stopped doing PVE, even though I generally prefer it to PVP, and it's because of the lousy times.

I doing it for similar reasons: sleep, relationship, mental health savings. Stopped running PVE's about five seasons ago, and it's probably the only reason I remain in the game. If I can last-minute get in for a reward I will, I've tried to do that for each of the last six 4*'s (and been successful in four or five of them).

Imagine if D3 made the rewards based on points that you accumulated in event on your time frame rather than accumulating points against others on their time frame...wouldn't those events be nice?

I get what your saying but last few entries into 4* personally have kinda left me feeling burnt by trying to enter early. First time I went from entering 975th (bad bracket info) to 12th grinding nodes down to double digits at least (right before 4* prizes had shifted to top 100) but got stuck basically could do nothing to break into top 10 because first started 20000 points higher than I did. More recently entered without watching brackets at a 1001th and only did 2 or 3 grinds to end up in upper 80's. If I gotta watch brackets like a hawk to place well anyway, might as well save some effort in the process. Almost makes me wish there was still a little rubberbanding, if only one time after entry.

It wasn't deliberate but the last fresh bracket was 2 days into a 7day event and I think most people assumed there would be at least one more fresh bracket. Also knowing how competitive 4* pves are there was no way I was going to join day 1 and be able to keep my sanity. Fair play to all who joined day1, you're all mad!!

Just bad timing on my part, travelling from Thursday through until Monday. I checked this thread on Monday since I didn't want to join one or more subs behind the leaders and have been waiting ever since.

I'm not holding out much hope
actually but it would be great if a new bracket does open in time. I got an ant man from his event so I don't have to feel bad if I miss out.

On a related note, would you jump in if no one was posting updates here? I'd be tempted to jump in with 10 minutes to go on the off chance that there was a new bracket. I imagine people might be too busy grinding to post updates as we get within an hour or so of the end.

sometimes it is more about life than trying to game the system. personally this time I could not force myself to start after grinding the last one to finish my torch. I needed the weekend off, so I took it. weekends are always tough for me because of family events and...life. so if anything would have flipped since Monday I would have jumped in. anything. it seems they've found the right formula for making sure that doesn't happen. with the other antman event I still have him on my roster, but am just a little behind on his covers which won't matter for 6 months to a year, so really no biggie if 5 doesn't make it.

what i really dislike is not being able to play subs for the iso/hp. being forced to wait is really hard, but once you wait, you wait.

edit: i will probably jump into 5 around bed time just to see - abt 12 hrs from now, but i won't be posting anything at that point.

Couldn't agree more. I don't like missing out on the ISO/HP/tokens but I can't face that much effort all the time knowing that I would get nothing worthwhile at the end.

At the pace it has settled into slice 5 looks like it will end up at 985-990.

i agree its looking grim. i just had a scare - came out of a simulator match and eots showed i had entered and cleared some of the nick fury rescue sub, but didn't show any placement for me or anything - really weird. i freaked out, but thought I'd just try to close the game and re-open and looks back to normal now. i need people joining in the next 6 hours

It's not a linear progression though, I think the last day there are more people willing to just give it a shot and see where they land. You might have the bracket with 1-2 hrs to go!
