PvP - no longer three attempts to win ? is that right?

edited February 2014 in MPQ General Discussion
I was messing about in the Thor tourney, more trying out characters and combos in a vague attempt to feel like I was doing something constructive within the limited confines of MPQ Now (much prefer MPQ Classic)

Anyhoo, I lose the match - no surprise, I wasn't trying to win; I go back into engage in round two - and it's not there and opponent disappeared. This has happened several times today, and I think I saw a post from someone else noting a similar issue.

If this is indeed the case, then the dynamics of PvP has slightly shifted. No longer three attempts to get a win - you get one crack at it.

Can anyone else verify this?

Yup, they changed this last week to make PvP more competitive.
  • You also lose points for a loss. Same number of points the opponent would have lost, I believe. So if a win would've been worth 30 points but you lose the match, you lose 20 points and your opponent gains them.

Personally I like it. It doesn't come up a whole lot, but when your team gets a win it's pretty great.
  • Because quite frankly , it was impossible to lose to a person outright with 3 tries. Now it's more do or die , which i find is better.
  • You also lose points if you fail in your one attempt, so have to pick opponents more carefully now.

Be careful but dont skip as there will soon be a skip tax. Welcome to the new world of losing points or losing iso

Or winning fights. That's still an option.

It sounds like they have done a lot to improve opponent selection.
  • who da thunk they could introduce both strategy and economics in a tactical match3 game? icon_rolleyes.gif

Absolutely, it's a fantastic change when paired with the improved opponent selection
  • Pretty sure you lose (50-points you would've gained) for losing, so if you were going to gain 40, you lose 10 for losing the fight.
  • I think it's based on relative points, just like attacking.
I got hit by an uber cascade during a battle in the Thor tourney, would've gotten 34 pts if I won, lost 8 pts instead.

I think this is probably the best of all the recent changes.

Totally agree. I don't like the other changes, but this one clearly benefits the game. Now is more important than ever to choose who you fight ( that is why I suppose they will charge you for the skip icon_razz.gif ) and be clever in the fight, not just win because you have a long rooster of characters.
  • This change and the fact that boosts are no longer viable to use continually should mean a lot of extra strategy when choosing your defensive team, should be a really positive change!

exactly, I got around 100 points during the thor tournament from guys who attacked me and lost (of course, it was still a net loss for me, but nice to gain points once in a while).

Either you guys are stoned, or max level, or from the future, because opponent selection is bloody terrible. I'm mid-level, and my opponents (starting from zero points) are either maxed [mixed 2-star/3-star] teams, or else worth fewer than 15 points (and "only" level 75-105).
*Edit: I realized I left out the possibility of you guys being sarcastic... My apologies, if that was the case.
  • No sarcasm here.

I'm getting opponents all in the 15-30 point range

I just got back on after a couple hour break to find I had picked up 49 points from players losing to me.

    Love the new system

Really? Not on my end. I think it's gotten worse or pretty much stayed the same; definitely not an improvement.

Regardless of opponent selection the point system is still screwed up.

    Who would you fight?
    Fight 85 Thor/85 Wolvie/100+ Spidey for 19 points
    or
    Fight 85 Thor/85 Wolvie/88 Spidey for 31 points
  • About time they changed this. A couple of late defenses saved me 100 HP and a shield break in the last hour of Thor tourney.

I imagine they fell victim to the Hulk/THor Anger/Call the Storm collabo.
