Should I be keeping my 3 stars yet, or selling them for ISO?
Just curious, I currently have all 2 star characters except for Bagman, cause he apparently doesn't "drop" anymore. They're in varying status of being "Covered" but none are at 1 cover only.
I've also gotten "lucky" and acquired a handful of 3 stars.
I have Ragnarok with 1 Red, 1 Green (token grabs)
Colossus with 1 Red, 1 Black, (Heroic Dark Avengers prize)
Steve Rogers 1 Red, (token)
Hulk 1 Green, (Hulk PVE)
Storm 1 Yellow, (Token).
Grey Suit Black Widow 1 Red, (Token).
In theory, the 3 stars might be nice for Essentials but so far the only one I've hit is Colossus, because he was prized for the next event, and I failed to crack 3 star cover levels again to keep that chain up.
What Im concerned is that fights are getting very hard, and Im wondering if my 3 stars are affecting my difficulty when it comes to PVE and PVP opponent pairing?

Although you won't use them any time soon, you still need to try & hang on to all of your covers or at least as many as you can as they are your overall building objective for the game.
Keep enough characters to compete but make room for good ones in your roster by either opening roster spots or removing less used or lesser characters.
characters will only get you so far in the game. They seem so very crucial to you at the moment as they are the ones you are using most but in the long run you will need characters to compete at a higher level in this game.
My reference as an up & coming player was Polarity's Guide (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3939) which is very helpful to decide which characters of each level you would like to keep early on & also how to handle each stages of your roster development.0 -
So is the general idea to level up a key team of 2 star characters to place high enough in PVE to grab 3 star covers? My go to team right now is a mix of 2Thor, 2Torch, and OBW, but sometimes I cycle people in to save health packs or if I think an ability will pay off well. I only have 1 star left, Hawkeye, but he's level 40 so I occasionally drop him in on fights as well, because I am just a massive fan of his abilities and he seems to help me a lot if someone can tank for him.
I think Ill try grinding for my next roster slot, I bought some with RL cash while I was lower and they were unlocking more for less HP, but now Im at the 1 slot for 220 level, so maybe I should go wrap up the HP missions in the prologues? I still haven't actually touched the last set of missions even yet.0 -
I would say that any you can get your hands on, go get it to open up as many roster spots as you can to be able to keep more & more characters.
The idea is indeed to build a key bunch of characters that work well together. I would say maybe two good duos (to save on heath packs a bit) & a strong fifth character that can pilot both duos in PvE might serve you well but it will depend on how you play really. Simply keep in mind that those characters will almost exclusively serve you to get to land so try & trim it as slim as possible I guess.
High tier to include in your team no matter what the others would be are which is the strongest team you can get at that level in my opinion (and actually don't do too bad on offense & defence in PvP).
After that it depends on your preference but is very useful & can be a good duo in PvE.
Furthermore, I would say to play some PvP as well as PvE if you aren't already. You won't compete for top prizes anytime soon but you will be able to score some good & useful resources for individual match & low hanging progression rewards to make you development a little faster.
The prologue is a good source of covers & useful rewards so don't hesitate to milk it for all it is worth.0 -
The posts above pretty much cover what i've got to say except perhaps one important thing.
Deadpool Daily.
this is why you want as many 3 as you can. It is the best way of gaining 3 covers but you'll need at least one cover for the essential node. You'll soon see your 3 chars rising.
A quick note on the 4 wave node, OBW is obvious but take 2thor instead of Ares. You'll find that his abilities are used a lot more. also take 2mags if you have him. generating blue for healing and red for thor means you shouldn't have a problem.
Good luck!0 -
good sources for ** covers are just playing seed matches in pvp and LRs. ** covers drop very often after LRs matches and you can cover a guy in no time if you get in during the first minute of an LR (from all my tokens and drops, I built a 5/3/5 moonstone for the last event - but won't do that again because I never used her abilities, so that was iso wasted in not selling the covers). steve, hulk, gsbw, mostorm - all useful *** characters (steve is the absolute best player in the game against goons). I have lower opinions of rags and colossus, but ultimately they all get cycled through essentials at some point, so keep what you can. if you're **s aren't to level 40 yet, you might be getting some scaling increase from your ***s on your roster. It doesn't take that long to get them up to 40 - if you don't have a key team at/above 40 yet, I'd do that asap - my A ** team was ares/obw/daken. thor/storm/mags are also great. thor can be substituted for ares (wolvie too). and storm/magneto can be used in several ways (with hawkeye, with thor). make sure you have jugs for the * node in ddq - all other *s are optional once you have a ** team up and running.
as far as big enchilada goes - I have many useful ***s and one maxed and I still use **thor/storm/mags for that node. works like a charm as long as I avoid the ninja bug.0 -
Thanks for the advice. I've had -0- luck in getting cover drops from Versus, so had been skipping it. The drops are better in Lightning Rounds? Will have to keep my eyes open, I don't ever seem to get the "Seed" teams people refer to.
Why Juggs for the DDQ? Does he never show up as the opponent, thus locking you out? I've been tackling it easy with Classic Hawkeye, except sometimes he's locked out.
My 2 star team right now is usually JStorm, OBW, and Thor, but with PVE being what it is, I tend to cycle in whoever is boosted.0 -

Granted I also find most PvP to be a not-worth-it bloodbath since the matchup changes, and since I can't crack T100 98% of the time anyway, my PvP play time has drastically reduced.0 -
Look at the character rankings. Keep the covers in the top 20 and any you are partial too for what ever reason. Sell the rest. Also don't max out all your two stars its a waste. You will sell them eventually and you're not getting back what you dumped in. Max Ares, OBW, and then two others you like. I was partial to Ms Marvel and daken. Sell your other two star covers. You can rank in the top 10 no problem with 4 maxed two star covers. I did0

Im not actually dumping much ISO on my characters aside from my "core" group, which seems to be Thor, OBW, and JStorm. Ares is a bit under covered at the time, so I haven't really been impressed with him.
Ive also dumped ISO on MnMags, and CStorm, because others advised they are a good duo, but I think Im missing a few purple covers on Mags for it to start paying off.
Ive now got a Luke Cage, Captain Marvel, and Iron Fist cover joining my GSBW in claim limbo, so the idea of purging a few of my lower 2 stars is seeming to be a forced option sooner than anticipated.0 -
& are high tier so you should keep them at all cost I think. If you need to choose I would say .0

Juggs will never be locked out, unless d3 makes a 2* version... the 1* fight is always against a 2* opponent, and since hawkeye has a 2* counterpart all hawkeyes will be locked out for that fight... a level 20 juggs can easily handle the 1* node all by himselfHaetron wrote:I currently have all 2 star characters except for Bagman, cause he apparently doesn't "drop" anymore.
let me know if this is accurate; reading all your posts here, it sounds like you rostered colossus, hulk, lcap and mostorm... are completely out of HP for roster slots... and have cage & fist (and GSBW) sitting in your available characters... if i am reading this right (or even if i'm reading something wrong), i would suggest the following:
of the 3*'s you mentioned, i would only worry about rostering cage/fist/cap... but most importantly, cage & fist - these 2 are top tier and have a great synergy together.
if needed, i would ditch: moonstone, mhawkeye and/or bullseye to make room for them...0 -

You pretty much nailed it. I've now stopped opening tokens, after the game threw another 3 at me in IM40. I might be able to place well enough in Juggernaut heroic to get another cover for him, but it seems like the games started throwing 3 stars at me when it knows I don't have space for them.
My current rostered 3 stars are Rag at 2 covers, LCap, MoStorm, Hulk, Groot.
I've got in the reserves waiting for empty slots, GSBW, Luke Cage, Capt marvel, Iron Fist, and now IM40. I still have a few days left but Im done popping tokens, ill likely just pay a few bucks to unlock some more slots while Im lower on the tier and they're still somewhat cheap. Ive only spent 5 bucks on the game so far, and Ive spent more time on it than the Witcher, which I paid 60 for. I don't really feel like I've been "Freemium" scammed or anything yet at this point. My main concern is how having these extra level 40's on my roster is affecting my scaling, as my main 2 stars I still rely on are only in the 50-60 range. I'm just wary about cutting 2 stars yet because they make sure I get some points off the essential nodes in PVE at least. The one cover 3 can't be leveled and are permanently stuck at 40, so they wind up being dead weight and useless in most of my fights.
It didn't help that it seemed like I was in no way ready for the DDQ when I finally had an essential needed, but was no way I'd survive the Big Enchilada as it was level 90-120 or something.0 -
It's a shame that the only 3 you have 2 covers for is the worst possible one. Every one of the characters you have waiting for spots is better than Rags, except possible IM40 who is just equally as bad.
I used the same logic as you for spending money on the game for roster slots at the beginning, so if you can drop a few bucks for the slots and keep them all then great. If you can't, for me, Rags would be the first to go. He's just not good. On top of that, he will just about never be the essential character in pve since we are always fighting against the dark avengers. I wouldn't bother with IM40 in your position either, of course he's the other one you're about to have 2 covers for welcome to mpq.
Agree with others that Luke Cage is absolutely first priority. If the one cover you have is red you might actually get some use out of him right away.
Just curious, how many slots do you currently have, and how much does the next one cost?0 -
My Luke Cage cover is Yellow. Righteous Uppercut.
I have 20 slots, and my next slot is 225, Im currently at 200 HP, so I either can try and grind out a node in Dark Avengers for 50 HP, as Im -still- not finished with the prologue yet, lol. (Also saw some wolverine covers I could use there.)
And man, I am so not a fan of Rags, at all. He and 2star Bullseye are likely getting pitched. I have 3 of the covers for 2 star bullseye, but they're all only for his black ability.0 -

you will get 50hp from a daily reward before that cover expires, keep it.0 -

Good plan. Same logic as Rags applies to bullseye, he won't be essential in 95% of pve's because he's a villain.0 -

This is the shadiest thing that D3 does IMO. They virtually force you to continually buy roster slots that are continually increasing in price to remain competitive by having reward covers be essential for the following event.
So if you are convinced you will play for a while, and are willing to spend real money on the game, then buy roster slots rather than trashing tokens. Eventually they will all be essential and you will need them to compete. If you don't have the money, and/or aren't willing to spend it, then you have to do what you can to conserve the HP you earn, and figure out which characters to trash.
They just released a new character ranking list - if your 3* characters are near the top of that list, try to keep them. If they are near the bottom, get rid of them.
Also, avoid spending ISO on characters that are undercovered - even a top tier character like Luke Cage or Thor. It's tempting to spend what ISO you have on them thinking "well eventually I'm going to use this character, might as well spend my ISO on them," because you will get to a point during your transition where you have a bunch of 2* lvl 94 characters, and more ISO than you know what to do with - save it. I've got a bunch of 3* lvl 70 characters that I have just been really unlucky earning covers for, and I really wish I had that ISO back to put into my fully covered 3* characters that I am struggling to get enough ISO to max out. If you save it, you will be thankful when you finally earn that last essential cover for a top tier 3* and just have enough ISO laying around to take them as high as you want.0 -
I just realized that IM40 is essential for the new event. If you're going to be playing it much and your others aren't going to expire until after the event you should roster IM40, use him for a few days for essentials and then dump him for one of the better characters.0
