Why do people have so many Duplicates of a Character?

I have noticed a bunch of players who use an insane amount of low level characters in their rosters...

What are the advantages of this?

Is there a method to it?

I'm guessing it helps lower their ranking and helps face lower level players.. But wanted to find out.

    I think it may be due to the upcoming change to her black power.

    Some people are stockpiling her in order to take advantage of the increased buyback price once the change goes into effect.

    Edit: "her" of course being Moonstone.

    He is just hoarding moonstone covers to take advantage of the buy back program .. But d3 squashed it as there is no hp involved by sellling moonstone covers..

    Yeah dozens of Moonstones is the result of speculating. People knew her powers were getting changed and typically when that happens you can sell changed characters for HP (supposedly that isn't happening with Moonstone and you'll only get ISO).

    Some people will keep several copies of 1/2* Widow to send out as team-ups. I imagine somewhere there's a guy with several copies of Juggernaut so he can play the rare Balance of Power/Combined Arms event even more efficiently.

    That person is definitely prepping to sell of moonstones (but there is no HP buyback price this time, so that may be a nasty surprise this time)

    One other reason to stockpile low level characters is that you will automatically recruit any character that you open in a token and don't already have fostered. That can be a pain if you would prefer to wait before decide what to do with a particular cover/slot. So using 1* and 2* covers to hold otherwise fallow roster slots can be useful here and there.

    Is it confirmed that no HP will be involved in the buyback program? Or is it just a rumor?

    It's confirmed. From the thread announcing the change to Moonstone:

    I love that they admit nobody has spent HP on her. For some reason, that makes me laugh a little.. and now that she is about to become really useful....

    I CAN'T SEEM TO GET COVERS FOR HER.........

    wish i was....

    Sold probably enough to cover her fully 10 times over... now i can't get her, or a magneto (for next PVE) to save my life!

    I made a second Moonie two weeks ago in hopes of making a small profit. Since then I've gotten 4.....4 covers of a 2* in 2 weeks. It's crazy. And I still haven't max covered MNMags back from when I sold him. I'm not a conspiracy nut, but that might change soon. icon_lol.gif

    It's confirmation bias, that's all.. as we can see the screenshot, i think 1 person is just taking them all so we can't have them!!

    I was looking at the top rank for season and I saw your alliancemate's roster (the1whoknocks).

    He's got 96 roster slots. Fully covered and leveled versions of every 4* and then a bunch of nearly fully covered replacements for them.

    Every 3* fully covered and leveled (except for 3* Ms. Marvel).

    I was blown away by how awful this was, because I know that he doesn't even need any covers. So when he wins 1st place in his season and in his individual events, all he is doing is keeping the 4* covers out of the hands of those who still need them.

    That's the messed up thing about this game. People who have the 4* covers win the events that people without the 4* covers need to win in order to get the 4* covers that they need to compete with the people who are winning.
