Supermarket dropped milk from $2.50 to $2.00

The supermarket franchise where I have been buying my groceries for years recently dropped the price of the milk litre I normally buy from $2.50 to $2.00 permanently. I go through 2-3 litres per week in my household so let's say 10 in a month, 120 per year. In 5 years, that's around $300 dollars that I paid over what I would pay under this new price. I tried to get my $300 back from the supermarket but they laughed in my face. So I'd like to hire the frothing mob from this forum that is readying itself to fight the good refund fight against the upcoming drop in ISO levelling costs to also help me burn this supermarket to the ground! How do these soulless, greedy corporations dare offer some people that just will start buying their goods a better value than it was given to us, their loyal veteran customers?

Have you ever even HAD orange juice?? I've been drinking it since I was 5 and I can tell you it's just fine how it is. Stop calling for nerfs on juices you haven't even drank yet.

That's funny, the store down the street has great milk. They have their own farm, grass-feed the cows and treat em so good. I like the milk so much that I bought a year long subscription to get a gallon of milk every week. I even paid up front.

A few weeks in, the supermarket started watering down their milk so that it was 58% water!

I asked them to refund the money I'd paid for my future milk and told them they were making a bad move that would lose a lot of customers by doing this. I also lamented the fact that I couldn't get delicious milk any more.

I don't know, are we? All I know for sure is that I'm just here so I won't get fined.

Did the price just change or did the milk change to water while you were using it?
  • Well I heard from a friend who heard from a friend who over heard it from his mom who works at the milk distribution who heard it from her boss who heard it from his lawyer that the lawyer's good friend has a friend who has a son who's so damn fat he's blaming the milk. Claims there's a strain in the vitamin D (of which he's not sure) that's causing his obesity and he can't ride bike with all the rich kid in the neighborhood. So the new product has been tampered with to help him and all the fat kids stay fit. The rumor is, it's only still a test and they're going to keep tampering the milk until the community is well fit. Got milk?

I get what you're saying and I agree, dropping ISO overall is a positive change for sure, cheaper ISO costs to level characters is a good thing. There are aspects to these waves of changes the past month that shouldn't be overlooked though. My view of your analogy is more like your Supermarket was charging a premium (i.e. 4*) for Organic Milk at $2.50, later, they find out that the manufacturer was lying that it was Organic and had to come clean and reduce the price to $2.00 and change the branding on the Milk. Pretty sure most folks who was purchasing the previous product would feel entitled to some form of compensation. Now that the "Organic" Milk is the same as the regular, cheaper stuff.

Changes in a game like this are expected, I get it, problem is that those who maxed out 4*'s and playing with them in PVE are now facing hyper-scaled nodes without the tools necessary to deal with them properly. I personally don't have any max 4*, but I do have them above my max 3* and when 4hor was nerfed, I decided to try and get my PVE scaling down by only playing with my lower level characters based on some other forums threads that believed this was possible. Problem is, 1.5 PVE's so far, scaling hasn't gone down at all for me (yet) and I'm forced to stop playing nodes as I get scaled out from being able to complete them. 110 characters versus 300 level non-goon enemy's that I haven't even touched yet (community scaling is a whole other problem... haha) just aren't possible without significant board luck.

I'm a bit disheartened by a new thread showing someone from Customer Support stated that PVE starting levels are based on one's top 3 characters... Makes me wonder if this will ever work, but it isn't fun at all when I'm not being able to complete nodes, even with using all boosts, which is kinda the point of this game. I was genuinely excited to use the bigger chunk of my roster in the 110-94 range and use more variety in my gameplay when scaling did go down (instead of being forced to play with the same characters to continue).

Characters changes are going to happen and have been happening since the start, players are smart and are going to adjust, but if they are going to take away the tools players use to deal with high-end nodes, the other side of that equation should be adjusted too. So far, in my own experiment, I haven't seen that happen yet and I'm concerned it may not be possible unless I delete those 4*, which seems like a silly way to deal with the problem since reducing levels in this game isn't possible. Sure, I'll get double the sell back price, but that seems like a cop out to me for the effort I put in to win many of those covers with top2 PVE finishes and shield hops in PVP to hit that top progression and real world money only to find out I should've been focusing on my 3*'s instead all this time.

Me? I'm not asking for any free ISO/HP back, but I do want them to try and make an attempt at not just creating balance in the characters themselves, but in the gameplay too. Longer matches due to higher health, nerfed boosts, nerf damage abilities, etc, it's just a lot to process in such a short period. I can tell you so far, PVE has been a lot less fun, more frustration, I've resisted the urge to use my top end characters just to get through, but then it's just forcing me to use my top characters and I won't do it (yet... lol). If it means I can't play, then I can't play and that is very wrong in my mind.

These forums are a double edged sword where only the Devs really win in the end, they get a lot of good info/reviews/critiques that they then use in the game. They probably learned a lot from the IF debacle, when many pointed out his abilities were too powerful before his release just by reading about it but let it go live only to see it get updated a short while later. Later with Prof X and Quicksilver, those that quickly pointed out overly powerful abilities now saw them get updated prior to the actual release. Lol, this is why we can't have nice things if folks are only going to complain about stuff we don't even have yet! Granted, some of those changes were probably necessary, but it goes back to the Devs reading the forums and valuing that knowledge.

Of course, the Forumites make up less than 10% of the actual player base, but they are the most hardcore and probably the most knowledgeable than your average player. Sure, they probably have a skewed view, but why would the Developer even ask us for Q&A's and for feedback if they didn't see what they could get as valuable. I personally think it's because of the forums that KK rewards are getting re-run, it's because of the forums we got DPDQ, it's because of the forums that we got time slices, it's because of the forums we now have a 30 day buyback policy, it's because of the forums that we got 8 hour refreshes, it's because of the forums that we get many of the characters tweaks (be they good or bad), you get the idea. If they want to piss off that small, but knowledgeable/loyal portion of their player base for some bigger reason, then it is what it is I guess.

Sorry, didn't mean this to be a rant, not my intent, but just want to make sure folks know it's not as cut and dry as many seem to try and want to make this to be. Yes, there will be 2 sides to this Character update debate, but it's worthwhile for folks to at least empathize with the other sides views a little. There's lots of good knowledge folks have here, but don't take what is said in fits of anger and frustration from an initial reaction discount all the help they've given in the past.

This Supermarket dropped the price of milk (yay!), watered it down a significant amount (boo!), and then made me feel unwelcome every time I walked in (****!). Edit: I forgot to say they also make you walk alllllllll the way to the back of the store to get it! lol.

That's iso-8, nerfs, and mmr for those who haven't had their coffee yet.

Nota Benne for everybody in this thread, just in case. The analogy is regarding solely the reactions of many people against the dropping prices of ISO. All other changes currently being discussed by the community were not incorporated as I'm actually not looking holistically at the whole kerfuffle, but only about how some people responded to that particular change.

The store also has about 20%-priceback satisfaction guarantee. However the store wont care about buy price, they will only refund the amount the new milk price dictates.

Milk at $2.50 or $2.00 will still do the body good.

I think that was obvious, but the ISO change wasn't done in a vacuum, so I'm not sure why you would expect the reaction to not take into account the other changes. Pretending it's something that people are reacting to in isolation is kind of pointless.

Hey OP, tell us when the store clerk follows you to your car, swaps the milk you purchased for a gallon of water. When you complain he'll ask you if you read the store policy and that drinking water is better for the overall future health of the country, then we'll talk analogies that make sense.
  • Ok, a slightly more accurate description of everything that has happened (using the milk analogy). You love milk and a supermarket sells you the right to come get milk from the regular milk vat. Later they add chocolate milk, and strawberry milk. Each costs $20.00 for teh right to get milk from the vats. They know that by selling milk subscriptions like this they will gain a lot of customers and they make a lot of money. One day they introduce orange milk and the people who have already paid for the other milks flock to pay for this new milk that tastes way better than anything else.m after a while the store notices that almost everyone in teh area has already paid them for the Orange milk except for some new customers. No one is buying the other flavor and their income stream is drying up.

What does the business do? Well, from an economic standpoint, they then have to calculate if they make more money by increasing the quality of the strawberry milk, while decreasing the milk quality they use to make the Orange milk. This will cause some people to then pony up the money for the strawberry milk, and chocolate milk. Will some,of the existing customers get angry? Sure. Will some leave? Yes. But maybe they figure most people aren't happy with the new Orange milk, but they are addicted to our milk and it's likely that most of them will complain and then continue to buy our milk. And if the income derived from the sales of the upgraded milk and from new customers who now might buy all the flavors is more than the income lost by those who leave, then many businesses will make the decision to do just that.

A similar example can be found if you look up Lee Iacocca and the Pinto car. He made the decison that the cost of the few successful lawsuits against his company for producing a,car that burst into flames if someone touched it going more than 5 mph was offset by the increased number of cars he could produce if he kept the cost low.

For a more long winded explanation, see my post: The Business behind the changes.

Bottom line, D3 doesn't hate us, doesn't love us, and doesn't care about individuals, leaving or joining. It's all about the bottom line and what can be done to increase it. Any changes in the game are guaranteed to have had an extensive cost analysis prior to be authorized, you can be sure. I'm not saying I like it any more than anyone else, but we on the forums will not alter D3 business policy.

Unfortunately for the op, the example of the milk has nothing in common with the covers in the game. The covers in MPQ and a character you build have elements of an investment with benefits you reap, hopefully, for a long time in the future. The milk in the example is for immediate consumption. If anything, it would be more fair to compare the price of milk with the price of health packs. In this case, no one would complain if they bought and used 5 health packs yesterday during a pvp climb and today the devs dropped the price to half.
  • Sadly, this milk cost analogy doesn't fit this situation. None of the D3 changes involve reducing the price of a 4* cover, which is what the milk thing would be about.

What D3 have done, analogy-wise, is sell players a porsche, then replace it with a ford engine some time later. How would you feel about that? Bet you'd be asking for a refund, pretty quick.

Do you dislike the supermarket? Do you think that the owders are either machiavellian villains out to squeeze every cent out of you while giving you only pain and frustration in return, or abjectly and criminally dumb and incompetent, ruining a store that only you, oh great genius could easily run with your eyes closed? Does every little change to the status quo of the store constitutes an unspeakable violation of your constitutional rights and the integrity of your lifestyle? Has the daily grind left you but a hollowed husk filled to the brim with bitterness, contempt and bile? Do you spend your days and nights posting over and over in the forums about your woes and upvoting eachother sycophantly? Did the Grocery store personally kill your parents, gave you AIDS and left your cat pregnant?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, do yourself and us a solid and just leave. Leave the store, logout from the forums and move on. Please do not bother leaving a "why am I quitting" thread behind which is just another opportunity to repost your tawdry entitlement. Just leave and go on to live a happier life, while making us happier as well. Why do you insist staying around if you are so utterly unhappy, it escapes my comprehension.

Yes the store is not without problems and will never, ever, ever be perfect. Especially when compared with the variable and subjective standards of thousands of players. However, if you think that the owners are not busting their **** trying to make the store better, fix the problems and add new things, you are the one who's truly either malicious or dumb. Even with all the issues, past, present and future, there are many of us who actually enjoy the store, trust in the owners to make it even better and can control ourselves from being every single day tiresome, belly-aching naysayers even when we disagree with some choices. And we do not enjoy waddling in the swamp of corrosive waste that the first page of the General Discussion subforum normally is.

This is my official request for mods to always merge all the angry, entitled, venom-dripping whining threads that add very little to any discussion into a single thread of suck that the rest of us can safely ignore.

Milk is commonly the loss leader in grocery stores, even with dairy subsidies and back channels to local dairies. It simply costs way more to produce milk than what we pay for it.

That said, grocery stores willingly sell it at a loss because almost NO ONE goes to the store solely for a gallon of milk. Milk is almost always placed at the very back of the store, forcing you to window shop for things you didn't travel to pick up. Selective and suggestive sales. End caps. "SALE SALE SALE".

SO tell me why fixing the cost of your loss leader (that'd be xfw's impact on the game given his value per ap spent, etc) makes me more interested in your new brand of sweet potato tortilla chips? I already have a brand I like
    garden-eatin-tortilla-chips-175345.jpg

And it's going to take more than coupons, product placement, and free samples (eg daily rewards) for me to try this again. It's good. It's just not Garden of Eatin' good.
    SweetPotato.jpg?1404766296

Where Garden of Eatin is XFW and you're trying to make me like Elektra. Oh, and why can't my Patch, Daken, or Hood get a health bump?

They're not the dairy I'm looking for.
