    This is hilarious.

Not a car guy, had to look up what "Nissan Micra" is.

Oh, and what would happen if D3 made the Nissan Micra.

About a year ago Demiurge made some new cars that were extremely fuel-efficient while still being powerful and cheap to maintain. Some of these cars were quite expensive, but people loved them so much they were willing to spend whatever it took to get them. After a while Demiurge realized that a fuel-efficient and powerful car means that their parent company D3 was selling a lot less fuel and doing a lot less repairs. So what did Demiurge do? They contacted Marvel's Department of Transportation to make new roads that were inhospitable to their fuel-efficient cars. They also released a new line of super powerful vehicles that could traverse the treacherous roads easily. They weren't fuel efficient and they seemed to break down a lot, but at least they can drive on the new roads. And what about the people with their expensive fuel efficient cars? Demiurge pretended to sympathize with their customers and offered them a paltry 25% of the value they originally paid if they wanted to return the cars that no longer worked, even if they only purchased them 31 days ago.

Demiurge promised that it was a good deal, and that everyone would be happier with their new 4X4 monster trucks, but a funny thing happened. Instead of buying the new cars, people started walking more; people found new ways to move around independent of D3's motorways and toll booths. Even Colognoisseur was seen devoid of any electronic device enjoying nature. Within a few years nobody even remembered who Demiurge was or why they were so angry at someone named Will.

TL;DR if D3/Demiurge made cars everyone would become phoneless hippies living in nature.
  • Maybe I am confused by your analogy, but D3 did not give us "A" car they gave us like 60 cars and let you earn them by racing or purchase, and they saw that some people picked one of the expensive cars, we will call car X and tricked it out and then proceeded to win nearly every race against all of their other cars even the ones at the same pricepoint. This went on for a long time and all races seem to be X vs X all the time, which the spectators are a little bored with because they want to see some of the other cars on raceday.

So they were selling lots of that one vehicle but sales were lagging on every other car they made, because people with the best car never bought anything else, and people without X stopped racing so much because competing against this magical car just wasn't worth it. The car company realized they could take the task of changing every other car they own, or deal with the one causing a problem. Ultimately they are doing some of both. Owners of car X will not be able to win as many races and understandably be upset by that. But the devs have more invested in the race scene, than in the cars themselves.

They are letting you keep your car X if you are willing to let them modify it to be more fair with the rest of the field, or sell it back at a depreciated rate. Other racing companies might have just banned car X from races to deal with the problem, but they want you to still be able to use X, just not smoke all the competition because you have one car that runs best in all conditions.
