Do you think it's really less competitive, or just the fact that nobody is using boosts and Thorverine that's driving the point totals down? A lot of people are now spending twice as long to complete fights, so that's naturally going to cause scores to be lower overall.
I joined with ~45 minutes left and faced a total of 2 non-seed teams, and earned just shy of 300 points. So possibly just no one in my mmr range, but with 300 points I earned a diabolical token (got my 3rd yellow hood from it, which isn't terrible I guess). That's ridiculously low from what I normally see for the 8 a.m. matches.
  • I am not playing bc the mmr gives me too many high level guys right from the start so I really have no big incentive to jump in and put that effort for a token. I would usually just get to 50 or 100 and tank but you cant do that anymore so besides Mags who is gonna get nerfed and a couple yellow hoods I used LR to grab quick iso and tank mmr to manageable level. The tradeoff isnt that great for me to just get a token and frankly the balls to the wall desire to collect everything I had 1 month or so ago has waned to a more reasonable level since changes will be constant icon_e_smile.gif
  • I'm trying to play, my MMR has gotten painfully high - I keep skipping to find people I can hit and actually take out without suffering major losses. I feel bad because Bughunt keeps popping up in my list, and 85 Thor / higher level Magneto / Featured Villain is a lot easier than the 115 Doom / Ragnarok / 100+ Spiderman teams I keep seeing. icon_e_sad.gif

Heh, no problem, I think my MMR is a little higher than I'd like at the moment as I keep getting 100+ villains every other enemy, so I'm tanking the rest of this tournament. I'm only after heroic tokens at the moment as I think I have pretty much all the cards for villains given by the 9-25 category and it's too hard to get any higher rewards at the moment.
  • Wow, top 8 in the Doom round is about 250. Now I wish I had tried harder.

How exactly do you tank? Should I just try and find the worst team I can and attempt to beat it with IM35 / Storm / MBW? The easiest team I've seen was an 85 Thor / 69 Daken / 15 Villain, so I think I could manage something along those lines during the next LR on my lunch break.

Yeah, I saw a team in the mid 40s so went in with default Dr.Doom + low level 4* heroes. I'm getting hit a lot now, so it must have worked.

Yeah, competition was a bit higher than the Hood round. Or the casual players took my advice and thus populated my mmr range b/c I got creamed by 85-100 level teams and I dropped to 130 points. Was in top 50.
  • I remember my first lightning rounds, it used to be so insane, barely having enough to compete, non stop passing trying to find that soft team, maybe getting a diabloical token, maybe getting for 200 in the last minute.

this is definitely easier for those coming in, and should be seen as a vast improvement. no tanking so the top cant come in fighting strawmen teams, only mags is really still overpowered....

so yah, it's pretty great for you guys.
  • There's a huge amount of content (currently) and the gameplay is much slower, so there's that to factor in.
  • Wow. I played Army of One at the very last half hour, just after Doom LR.

Guess what? I got in top 5? icon_eek.gif

Maybe I should do this for all future tourneys, lol. icon_lol.gif
  • Looking at the rosters of the top placement the LR certainly seems much fairer. Having a maxed Magneto still gives you a huge advantage, but there's definitely better parity overall.

Rarghlblarghl, I beat someone's team using the given Loki, IM35, and Storm on the jungle map, I'm willing to bet it's still showing me to other players as Punisher/Spiderman though. No attacks within 20 minutes, guess I'm stuck in MMR hell.

Congrats on learning how to learn and adapt rather than complain the game is unfair. (That's a compliment.)
  • Is picking up goods littered around the streets after a hurricane rolls through really considered 'adapting'?

"hey, congrats on taking advantage of a userbase that is leaving in droves!"
  • LR is made more accessible because of the slower pace in general. Before, if you didn't have a strong team you were guaranteed to get blitzed by guys running triple boosts before you even have time to throw up a shield. Now that everyone is unable to play the game at the same breakneck pace, you actually have a chance to sneak in enough wins before you show up on everyone's radar and toss up a shield (and those guys would be in their own games for longer period of time due to the general slower pace). Of course people can still nail you for 100 points in 2 minutes, but such events is necessarily less frequent because every game is slower as well. I actually thought my #1 rating on the Loki's round would've held without a shield in the last 10 minutes, but decided to put one up anyway. When I came back I was told I would've lost like 150 points if my shield wasn't up and likely wouldn't have been in diabolical range. The only difference is that it is more possible to have time to throw up a shield before the pack found you compared to before.
  • Just actually played my first LR this go-round for Loki this morning. I saw lots of 15 loki / 50 m storm / 50 IM35 teams, which are the new flavor of tank team. Really easy cruise to top 8 with about 4 minutes to go.

EDIT: And I may have even sniped second with a win in the last three minutes.

Also, may I say I am THOROUGHLY enjoying ~ 40 Loki / ~70 Patch / 85 OBW. OBW steals AP, and once black, red, and green fill up, it's pretty much game over for any mid-level team. Heck, I don't even need to cast Loki's black most of the time, bc everyone's dead. I have Patch at 3/5/5.

EDIT 2: I did snipe second! Aren't I supposed to get two of one color cover for a second-place finish? I've only received one of each (plus the ISO and HP).
  • Congrats on sniping second! Rewards appear unchanged -- they've always been 1 of each cover and 100 HP for 1-2 in a 2-cover villain round.

Ah. Thanks for the clarification! Never finished better than top 8, so I was not clear on the top award.

So, uh, wait a second...is putting in a tank team basically like a free shield?
