Xavier PvP, Never again

Dear D3 and associated entities,

Please never have a Xavier PvP event again, or at least wait until I have a few covers. Allow me to elaborate.

I have a high level X-force and an underlevelled Iron Fist. They work well as a combination in certain situations. One of these situations I have found is when a wheelchair-bound cripple tanks purple for Iron Fist. Specifically a loaner cripple who gets replaced every game with a freshly crippled professor. A professor whose pose is one of constantly straining to fill his colostomy bag. And given the treatment he received in my team, I can't really fault him.

So I found myself throwing this hapless individual in the way of fire and lightning, I hat him cut, beaten and mutilated. He once even got crotch kicked after X-force was billy clubbed. I even rolled him out to face the Gods of War and Thunder. If I had seen a devil dino I honestly can't say I wouldn't have trundled him out front and locked the brakes on his chair.

A bit of self reflection has caused me to worry about my attitude to the disabled as a result of this round. I find myself torn between worrying about how easy I found it to make the less fortunate take a bullet or two, and worrying about where I can get more unfortunate cannon fodder to cover for Iron Fist.

Sociopathically yours,
Eddiemon

This event is a present to the players who spent $/HP/ISO to level PX. The rewards were meh, so I don't really mind. I wasn't planning to play, but I joined in the last hour and I was placed in a new bracket (#11) so I thought it would be fun to race to the top. I placed second with 716 and I mostly cared for the ISO and the HP since my XF is fully covered. Not really an enjoyable pvp, but it's not like it happens all the time anyway.

As far as I'm aware, they never run the 4* as PVP or PVE essential again after these first runs. Folks always complain about the first runs: they suck, but at least you only have to suffer through them once every six weeks I guess.

As Narkon said, it's a way to reward the PTW folks, just shows the game can often be PTW. I ran into someone today with Max Charles, Max IF, one more max 3* and a bunch of 2*'s - funny stuff. For those who want to play that way, I guess you can succeed.

Did you even read the original post or did you just assume what was typed?

Did you actually read the original complaint or just guess what the issue was?

It's great that you are explaining how the game works. And if I had complained about the cost, or how unfair it was that other people had a 4*, or anything at all like that I could understand this.

But I don't think your post has any bearing on how I mistreated a disabled individual.
  • I think you can absolve yourself from guilt Eddiemon, what Professor X lacks in legs, he more than makes up for by being Marvel's most powerful telepath. More than once I left him unchecked and got brutalized by AI cascades and Master Plan vengence alone.

I felt a little guilty too, but it was nice to always use the loaner and save on health packs. Send that baldy into battle like the cannon fodder he is icon_e_biggrin.gif

Yep, I read it. And rather than reply to the sarcasm, I replied to the first line

--These events are terrible since you are forced to use a 4* that isn't any good unless you paid for it. That's the problem, not how they look. If you had complained that the 4* Thor is weak because she was a woman or a 4* (I hope eventual) black character is weak for some reason other than covers, you would have been crushed for it.

I don't know if I should +1 this for being hilarious or -1 it and edit or lock it for being insensitive to the handy-capable (that's the PC term they us now right?).

    The story continues:

Eddiemon wakes up in the middle of the night, to the smell of blood and roasted flesh. Groggy, he looks around, and finds himself surrounded. Surrounded by men in wheelchairs. Bald men, in various stages of dismemberment. Burnt, lightning crisped, slashed, and beaten. One is even missing his crotch.

He tries to run, but his legs won't move.

He tries to scream, but no words come out.

As one, the zombie horde slowly lift their fingers to their temples...

And Eddiemon wakes up in his bed. He looks around, to find his room empty.

    Just a dream.

He breathes a sigh of relief, and is about to go back to sleep, when he hears a sound. The sound of his door opening. The sound of rubber wheels on carpetting...

And he never participated in another Xavier PVP. Never again.

At least Prof. X can see, no one complained about putting the blind guy into the fight. Sheesh.

    From the "Sick Satisfaction" thread.
Okay, I KNOW I'm going to Hell for this, but a situation came up during the Prof X PvP where both I and the opponent were left with just the borrowed character of Xavier.
I almost shouted out loud "CRIPPLE FIGHT!"

Not only am I going to Hell, I've put a down payment on a condo there...

I had no regrets, wasn't expecting him to make such a capable meat shield!

would love to see the number of prof x's that were downed during that event icon_lol.gif

So the fact that it is a setup for the 'D3 made me into a monster' joke is irrelevant. How do you live a life devoid of context? Is it challenging?

And there was satire present but no sarcasm.

No these events are terrible because all of the bad things I did to a person in a wheelchair. It helps if you read the whole post and not just one line. It was just compounded by the fact that D3 were supplying me with a fresh victim each fight because I had no covers yet. If you described my actions to a person outside of the context of a match-3 game they sound psychotic and sadistic.

Most people have an extra bit of ingrained sympathy for the handy-capable. Which we don't have for women or people of a different race to our own. It's kind of scary that you somehow equate being female or black with being disabled. (and by the way Nick Fury wants to know why you disrespect his heritage).

    A few raw numbers:

Professor X has been downed in this Versus Tournament 1,181,153 times as an opponent.
He has been sacrificed for the greater good (meaning the team still won) as a player 88,768 times.

    You monsters.

How many times has he been attacked and had it not connect? icon_razz.gif

This event has reminded me how incredibly annoying invisibility tiles are to play against.

Don't underestimate the disabled. That guy in the wheelchair beat the tar out of my
star.pngstar.png Wolvie by getting cascades that included 2 five tiles groups. Ouch, what a headache. Plus that floating head trick is pure nightmare fuel.

I learned two important facts from this event:

    1) In MPQ, just like in life, start any fight by beating up an old man in a wheelchair

    2) Bald men have creepy floating heads that will haunt your dreams

I'll be honest---I TRIED to hide my boys behind the brave professor. Perhaps it's karma, but whenever the AI was about to fire off an ability there were never any Xavier color matches for me to make and shove him up front. Xavier rarely took any damage during my matches, except for the one time I lost in Mind Games when it was my invisible Xavier against AI's Goddess who constantly got the yellow matches. icon_cry.gif

Is the second line a subset of the first line here? 1,181,153 downed as an opponenet would be just the number of battles that occoured? Or are we the AI's "opponent" and therefore if we lost our Xavier he's in that total?

Also, sometimes my chair-wall only took 4,000 damage and didn't quite die from that thing XF did to him behind the bleachers. Any chance you can tell us how much damage Xavier took in his tournament?
