Deliberately underlevelled 4*s - any reasons?

  • The reason to level characters beyond about 200 is because even as little as 4* get out of level, all else being equal a lower level 4* is still an easier opponent. Sure no team is ever too hard to beat if it's worth 35 points, but what if you don't have that choice? If you see a level 270 X Force worth 24 and a level 220 X Force worth 23, you'd probably pick the latter one assuming the rest of the team is equal. While it is difficult to figure out other player's psychology, it is safe to say that nobody has ever been intimidated by a low level character of any kind.

Phantron hit the nail on the head, IMO. It's like the old saying goes, if we're being chased by a bear, I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you. Sure at 900+ you'll get hit regardless, but there is a deterrent effect to a maxed out 4-star team, especially when climbing. I consider a 220 XF team on par with the 2-star teams you'll feast on while climbing.

On paper, the increase may be marginal, but even a marginal increase in a character you'll use 90% of your fights offers a better return than a character that's going to sit the bench most of the time.

And PVE scaling concerns are way overblown, IMO. You're not talking about keeping a 2-star roster. Once you're in the big leagues, build the strongest team you can and take on the fights. Community scaling is as big or a bigger source of scaling anyway.
  • I dunno about on par with the 2* teams. A 220 XF is basically a really really good 3*. And its like a quarter million iso to take them from 200 to 270. That's a lot. You should eventually do it, but you should be in a place you are ready for it, like 6-8 maxed 3*s.

Basically the question is, what benefits your roster more; another 166 character, or a maxed out XF. Once you have 2-3 solid PvE teams of 166s I'd say the answer becomes a maxed level XF.

Can you make some suggestions about which characters would you choose (or already have) for your A and B teams (mostly for pve though)? I returned in the game after a very long break and I am in a strange place. Many relatively new character have few covers, but I would like to know whom I should focus on. I want to level Blade, but he is still 1/1/1, so he is useless. Same with Gamora who is 2/2/3 and Deadpool (2/2/1).

From the older characers, Thor is fully covered (lv147) as is Patch, Magneto, BP, Hood, Hulk, Cap and a few more not worth mentioning. Sadly, Loki has only 3 green and Doom is still 5/5/0. From the 4 star.png only XF is high enough as 222 5/5/3

in PvE, I like to run
3 star.pngicon_thor.pngicon_falcon.pngicon_daken.png especially against goons nodes. Falcon is really an awesome support character in PvE
3 star.pngicon_captainamerica.pngicon_storm.pngicon_falcon.png / icon_hood.png especially for sustained plays in survival nodes. Cap and storm are slow to start but unstoppable
4 star.png XF icon_wolverine.pngicon_magneto.pngicon_hood.png I levelled my XF only recently and I recognize he's efficient!

whatever the event I fight with patch and daken when I want to save healthpack and because Patch is one of my favorite
Loki or Hulk go well with them

I enjoy using icon_daredevil.png since his recent change and found that icon_spiderman.pngpurpleflag.png can save my teams in tough fights
