Deliberately underlevelled 4*s - any reasons?

I'm currently sitting on a 166 xforce and enough iso to increase his level to ~210.
Is there any point to keeping him at 166? Will it, for example, limit my personal scaling in PVE? Or increase my matches against high level opponents in PVP?
The flip side: Is there a big benefit to moving him closer to 270? -- I don't think I really need the extra health. The extra damage would be nice, but hardly game-breaking in addition to what he's already doing. I do acknowledge that it would probably make him a better scarecrow in pvp, but... yeah.
If I'm using hulk, increasing xforce's level above ~220ish will cause him to tank green and thus reduce the effectiveness of the hulk, but I can stay under that if need be -- There's also the fact that hulk + xforce don't play together nearly as well as patch and hulk.
Any thoughts?

The biggest benefit of moving him closer to 270 is hit points. 270 wolverine has 10960 hp, 220 wolverine has ~8800ish (if I remember right). Those extra HP come in handy.
Damage doesn't scale very well with levels. 270 and 220 and 166 wolverine all do about 500 per tile for Surgical Strike and about 3400 damage plus tile damage for XF. 270 XF might have a negative impact on PvP scaling (it's unclear if this is true) but on the other hand, you have 270 XF to deal with PvP scaling.
Overall, I'd say level him, but only after you have a stable 166 roster of maybe 5-6 guys. It costs like 210,000 iso to go from 220 to 270, which is enough to level a 3* to full, so weigh the benefits. Would your roster benefit more from another 166 or from having a 270 wolverine?0 -
i didn't notice a significant increase in difficulty with scaling as i grew my Xforce to lvl 270. I don't keep track of how the levels of my pve opponents grow though. So maybe they got bigger but it didn't change difficulty enough for me to register.
The only maxed guys on my roster are Xforce and 3star Daken.0 -
I'm sitting on a decent whack of 166 3*s currently, incl patch, thor, daken, bp, hulk and mags. They're usually enough for most things that I need a full team of 3*s for. I've been out of the game for awhile and missed most of the newer 3* rewards (but have had that xforce in my roster -unlevelled- since before his rebalance).
I would say that if I was going to pick who to level next to max, it'd be either him or IF... I suspect that I'd get more out of a max xforce though.
Cheers for the responses.0 -
I brought my X-Force up to 270 about a week or so ago. It may be because of the particular events running, but I didn't notice any unusual shift in the difficulty of PvE. I would say that if you have the Iso to burn then go for it.0

I've been keeping mine at 166 for PVE scaling. One thing I'd like to get a straight answer from the Dev on is whether it affects scaling as much as people tend to say. Anecdotally, it seems to make a huge difference on the Gauntlet; less so on normal PVEs.0

My xforce is lvl 220 with 8935 health. I lvled him before having enough characters to deal with pve scaling. I have no prob. hitting top scores or placement when desired in pvp. As I have been lvling the rest of my 3*s to 120-130 or so, pve has come back in line and is very playable once again. Just don't go above 200 until your ready for the lvl 395 opponents or you have 5 blue and any red 4thor (preferrably 3 or more for propper affectiveness).
Hope this helps you out0 -
I have my 4*s at 220 simply because the increase from 220 to 270 just isn't enough for me to justify dumping an obscene amount of iso (around 200k) into them. That being said I would love to have the extra health I just can't bring myself to do it when I have other people I could possibly boost.0

I'd spend it on Iron Fist or the near future 4* about to come (assuming shes good)
Dont worry about PVP scaling, I'm already seeing 270 teams with my 2 166 3* & 1 150 4*. You should already be hitting 270 teams quickly.0 -
Kinda repeating what has been said, but I have a 240 x-force and can't say PVE has been unbearable. But then I guess most people with 4* guys have sort of moved on from grinding PVE even if it was tough. I know I have anyway.0

If you want to get the most out of your 4*'s without having them surpass 3*'s. (Remember if they have the same value of tile damage, the 4* wins out) Then level them up to 221, at level 221 4*s wont tank any colors over a 3* of a color at the same value. So in terms of X-Force if you took him to 221, then anyone with green as primary will tank green, anyone with black secondary will tank black, and anyone with yellow teriary will tank yellow, after 221, 4*'s will start tanking colors.
My reconmendation if you are worried about scaling and such is to take all your 4*'s to 221, it's still less than a fully maxed 3* and you can get the benefit of the extra hit points and damage. I never noticed much of a scaling issue when I took my X-force to 221, there was a little, but nothing crazy.0 -
I'm relatively sure that the first page of your roster has an influence on pve scaling or if you land in an veteran bracket or not. But grinding and community scaling have a much greater impact. You shouldn't make your decision to level xf based on that.
Don't forget, more health = higher sustainability and better at defense.
It's worth to invest the iso for level 270. I would bring xf to 220 as fast as possible and afterwards I would save iso until I can max him.0 -
Does anyone remember about how much ISO it takes to lvl XF to 220?0

At 200 each, I found that my 4Thor XF were easily able to defeat any 270 team but were easier targets for those same 270 people. Moving up to about 220 each has been a happy medium. For me, the cost of ISO is too great to go further, plus I am rather bored of the combo -- so I pump ISO into new characters.0

220 (or 221) is a good stopping point, until you are ready to take the plunge and have the 200k iso to move him forward. I have been saving ISO this season, since many of the featured characters I already had fully covered or was not interested in leveling at that time. Came out of Season XI with enough to max XF, and finally hit the button during Prodigal Sun. Effectively I don't see a difference in damage output, but those 2k hit points are very nice to have.0

Agreed. Happy with around 220 for each of these two and very bored already with just two weeks of a strong 4or because she trivializes the game.
Not worth it to max since there is no real thing as defense and a lvl 220 xor is just a big disuasive team for the hits as 270s or could lead to defensive wins for people trying to stretch.0 -
I usually put enough iso on my 4* to make them stand vs a 3*, dont see a reason to keep them 166
Although in most cases having a 4* around 230-250 gets you to a point where it makes little differnce
Like when my X-Force was 250 with 10.2k and 270 with 10.9k
Last levels don't increase much for him and it does seem a waste of iso that could improve a much needed character
In the end in think the 270 is just to scare off mid players, since big ones will attack you anyway probably using the same chracter lol0 -
4*'s scale better off of covers than 3*'s do, but 3*'s scale better off of levels than 4*'s do.
A 3/3/3 3* maxed out is much better than a 3/3/3 4* maxed out
If you want to maintain a balanced roster before you are ready to jump into 4* land, then get your 4*'s to lvl 221 this way they are just really good 3*'s in terms of life and dmg.0 -

Green does 3293 instead of 3441
Black does 506 per tile instead of 522
Yellow heals 4059 instead of 4243
As others have mentioned, health is the biggest benefit since it is only 9013 instead of 10960, but XF has true healing so it doesn't matter so much for me. At the same time I saved 176174 ISO which is more than enough for me to max 1-2 more 3 . For 4hor, health is perhaps even less of an issue since she has more than 16K0
