Roster Slot changes the reality and what to do now

Dont forget that roster slots are bundled for new players. That means they have to save longer between purchases, which can lead to not having a slot when they have a cover.
The problem is that the HP awarded DOES scale. If all a new player has is 1* and 2*s, they can get a MAX of 1 Taco Token, which cuts their HP earnings from that source in half, or more. For PVE, rosters are more on even footing so its about the same but for PVP can you really say a 1* roster can make 700 as easily as a 4*? That means they cant reach that 50hp reward. Its likely a 2* will have trouble hitting 575 as well. Does it scale in parallel to the cost of slots? I have no idea, but it definitely does scale.
For the health of the game we need more players to join as people quit, and this is a significant barrier. Hopefully R72 tweaks will ease it.
I agree with Marvelman, and also wanted to say that we need to take into account how roster slots scale in NEED and not just COST.
With newer players, the chances that any cover they pull is going to be new to them is significantly higher than those that have been around longer. More developed rosters have a greater chance of pulling a cover for someone they already have and thus not needing the slot as often. To the point where the only time a roster slot may be needed is when they introduce a new character, and then you typically have 2 weeks to save up towards the slot cost. Newer rosters could see the need for new slots as often as a few times a week or, in the case of 1-2* transition, possibly as often as daily.0 -
I went with option 3. I sold all my 1* and 2* except Juggs, OBW, and Ares just for DDP. I also ended up selling Beast, Doc Oct, and SG. I don't regret selling them since I was never going to end up using them unless they were heavily respeced. The only time it upsets me is when (like today) one of them is an essential for DDP.0

Roster diversity in this game is an illusion. Devs clearly stated they want us to choose between characters and not to hoard them.
(As many of us are doing.)
BUT then why are there heroics PVEs? Why are there essencial nodes? Why are there PVP featured characters?
Aren´t all those resctrictions AGAINST roster diversity?
It is simple - if you want to score (place yourself) high in that particular event, you absolutely MUST have that character !!
Anyone who doesnt have ALL characters is basicly hurting himself.
This is just another proof that developers don´t play theirs game ( - or play only on some casual level - this is clear after this month Q&A afterall).
Atleast one of them should play this game on hardcore level (as many forumites are for certain).0 -

Lol, if a dev actually played at the hardcore level for both PVE and PVP, then they would have no time to actually be a developer since they will be sucked into the black hole that is MPQ.0 -

Yeah, you are right for certain
But on the other hand, they will see problems we are seeing now (roster slots, ridicolous scaling, ... )0 -

THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING!!!!
It's clear they have not plans on changing this anytime in the near future, so here are you're 4 options.
1.) Accept it
2.) Quit
3.) Start selling 1* and 2* characters and quit buying slots unless necessary
4.) Keep banging your head against the wall asking for change to the prices
There are no other options. Option 2 and 3 are the only ones that will get their attention, this tells me that roster slots are a large source of revenue for them from the Whales and they have no plans on changing that anytime soon.
I have chosen option 3. I'm at 60 slots and do not plan on increasing them anytime soon, I don't need Yelena, or 1* Hawkeye, Bagman is soon to go for Iron Fist. I will start whittling down my roster until I'm left with bare bones, then I may decide on selling some worthless 3*'s.
Roster slots are a money grab, pure and simple there is no reason to have them except for that purpose.
Here's one thing you can stick somewhere though, when your roster slots start costing more than a cover for a 3* you are going to have some serious issues on your hand and that is quickly coming.
For your option 3...what do you consider "necessary"? When you run out of 1*'s and 2*'s to sell? After that what will you do when a new character is released? You may put a pause on purchasing new slots, but not for very long. I have less than 40 slots and have been selling off 1*'s and 2*'s for awhile now. I work with the characters I have, and effectively say screw it to the newest.0 -

I was watching the AT&T U-Verse commercial where the guy needed to watch his show in the middle of a meeting and told everyone they had to leave now so that he can watch the show and I can see that for a hardcore dev staff, something like:
D3Will: Okay guys, for our next feature we'll be working on...
IceIX: Hold it! My shield is running out and I don't have the targets queued up and another guy is getting close to my score! Everyone stop whatever you're doing and feed me more points!
D3Will: You heard the man!0 -

As for me, if they did put a cap on it, then I would not ask for a refund. I'll go on record here and now, saying that in the event D3 caps roster slots, I do not want a refund. The purchases I have made in the game were my decision. My choice to have extra roster slots.
But thats just me. Someone will always be upset no matter what happens. If they leave everything exactly as is, some players will be upset. If they change it, others will be upset. After the alliance upgrade incedent, Demiurge/D3 will need to handle this very carefully. If they were to go with the whole price cap, I would think 2,500 Hp, (cost of a 4* cover) would be as high as I would go. Or the ideas about making the cost go with the of the cover. Like 250 hp for slot, but it will only hold 1* characters. Then 500 hp for 2*, 1,250 hp for 3*. And 2,500 hp for slots that will only hold 4*. Or they could make it so that 1* slots hold only 1* characters, but 2* slot holds 1 and 2*. Then 3* slots hold 1*, 2*, and 3*. While the 2,500 hp slots hold any and all characters, 1*, 2*, 3*, or 4*.0 -
I'm finding that as I progress in the game, my free HP generation is naturally increasing to match the increased price of Roster slots. I'm not actually paying $7 for each new 700 HP slot; in reality, it's much less than that (and it could easily be free). Importantly, I don't ever regret spending $2-5 on a Roster slot. Seriously, I want to support the game, but I hate all the expensive P2W options they sell. Since Roster slots are the only reasonable purchase option, I'm fine with things as they are.
Plus, it's good to have a little pressure to cull the dead weight from the Roster. I will never regret selling Yelena.0 -
Here's a new player perspective.
I started late December, and the roster slots are fine for now, but it does feel to me like something is off.
As soon as I started playing it was clear that it would be nice to have many roster slots and keep everyone, but that would take a fair amount of money and I wouldn't have the ISO to level everyone anyway. So I quickly ditched all level 1 chars and decided on a group of 8 2* characters. Because some of them were buffed for the PvE event I was able to be competitive and top 150 without too much grinding and start building them up and getting 3* characters. Throughout this time there was pressure on me to buy slots, but I also saw that with the number there were and the rate I was getting them it would take a very long time for them to be useful and I had no idea who I really wanted, so I didn't mind having to sell them off too much.
Fast forward to February when I have 3 94 2* characters and can generally make 400 points in pvp events. Once there was a soft bracket and I finished in the top 100. On the other hand, due to some combination of scaling, finding myself in more competitive brackets, and being less likely to play as much after 2 months PvE rewards are drying up. I occasionally will get top 50 in a sub for some HP, but I'm no longer getting top 150 overall and the 3* covers that come with that, and I'm wondering if building up 3* characters will be viable for me. Then comes the Deadpool Daily and all of a sudden making progress on 3* characters is totally viable.
Currently I have 24 roster slots, 1 1*, 9 2*, 12 3*, 2 4*. I've sold off many 3* by now - if I had kept everyone I would probably have 6-8 more 3* characters. So as things are I guess I would have been better off if I had spent around $30 on the game earlier in that I would have more essential characters now. However I'm not the kind of person who will spend $30 on a phone game in the beginning so that was never going to happen. Now I've played the game for a while and see that I still enjoy it and that the devs are putting effort to add content and improve it, so I'm much more willing to spend money to support it. If there was an option where I could give them $30 now and never have to worry roster slots at all I would take it. There isn't though, and if adding this price point means the developers make less money in the long run then they shouldn't add it just for my sake.
So what should I do? I see that the prices will steadily increase for characters and there's no way that I will be willing to keep up with that. Also I realize that there's no way I will get the ISO to level everyone down the road once they have more covers anyway. I don't feel that not having all characters is really blocking that much content from me anyway. Sure some PvE nodes are blocked, but I've either already cleared them in a previous run, or I will in the future. For PvP I can play with the loaner character and having it myself with a few more covers and no extra levels doesn't feel like it will make any difference. I don't see any PvP reward worth going for beyond the 400 points which I can usually already get anyway. The Deadpool daily is so much more rewarding that everything else in the game that I feel strongly incentivized to put in some minimum amount of effort into each PvP and PvE event, and then just wait for the next day. Put all that together and I'm unlikely to spend real money on roster slots since it doesn't feel like having a few more will make a difference in the long run.0 -

I'm at that point now, with 3 new Iron Fist covers sitting in my que for the next 6 days. I need another 225 Hero Points or I guess I'll have to throw away my 1 cover Dr. Octopus. I'm sure D3 has an orgasm every time I mention something like that. They seem to get off on their player-base throwing away their in-game rewards.0 -
How did you get 3 IF covers without earning 225 HP during the events? Or how can you not earn 225 HP in the next 6 days? Between the 100 you get for PVP progression, the 50 you get for placement in top 100, the 50 you get in PvE progression, the 50 you get for top 150 placement, and the 25 you get every 7 days in daily rewards that's 375 in 7 days of the event. 525 if you count 2 PvPs worth. That doesn't even count PvE subs with rewards, which both Iso 8 Brotherhood and SHIELD SIM have, or your Alliance rewards.
I've paid for roster slots exactly 1 time, and that was 5 bucks to go from like 10 to like 16 slots. Since that point I've always had the HP needed when a new character comes out, or I have cut a 1* from my roster when 2 characters came out together. Today I have 60 roster slots. I don't mind them making it cheaper for newer players. I do wish slots evened out at a cool 500 HP per slot or something.0
