Personally I'm still very curious if anyone has done a complete breakdown of how much HP giveouts have changed in the last few months.

So someone upthread measured how much - on average of course, which is great for big-picture and horrid for individuals - DDQ adds to the game. And it's not insignificant.

But we've also had major changes recently in that PvP gives out much less and PvE subs give out less, and I'm pretty sure PvE mains give out less as well. On the other hand, we have a bit more coming in from daily rewards now, in that the 25 HP rewards are bumped to 100 (or something like that).

I can say that anecdotally, my HP gain has slowed in the last few weeks, mostly thanks to events giving out less and less for moderately high placement. (I'm also well-past the early days of daily rewards giving out HP a bit more often.) I may just be in the sweet spot of not being benefited by the increases and being hit by all the decreases, but it's noticeable. So I'm still not sure that DDQ really "solves" the HP problem, so much as it corrects for all the negative adjustments that have been made in the past few months.

Only in the short term. DDQ is still new enough that people are still feeling the pain of bad luck. Assuming you're in for the long haul, it's great for individuals too.
  • The most interesting parts to me were:
    1. Probable reduction of free 2* free covers in PVP... This is going to make it harder for anyone without a full 2* team to get there. If you aren't there yet, I'd play pvp like mad now, otherwise you're going to be screwed (as opposed to previous people).
This may put a damper on plans for getting my second MNMags, OBW. Will probably be good for the game in the long run, but I'd be outraged if I was in this zone.

    2. Magstique is here to stay! (I seriously doubt they'll be nerfed).

    3. The artist plays at a 2* level, the rest generally 3*.

    4. Roster slot prices -> There is no 'problem' for them at least.

I don't really feel like this Q&A provided much new information to addicts of the forums, and I feel they went with cheerleading (go us! DDQ!) as opposed to answering serious design questions.

Instead of upvoting all the great questions, we probably need to pick a certain few that we feel are the most important. If not, we will probably continue to get Q & A's like this one, and will have no one besides ourselves to blame.

Sounds like next month someone (a mod? David Moore?) should take the top 15 most upvoted questions and put up a poll to get a ranking. Hopefully the devs answer the top ranked ones.
  • These interview segments are great and i enjoy watching them. I'm glad to see the folks behind the game humanized.

Still, and I can't stress this enough: the problem with roster slot pricing is not, fundamentally, that there isn't enough HP flow in the game. There is relatively low HP flow in the game, and DDQ does a lot to fix that. Blast-fax Kudos all around. But since the price of roster slots increases indefinitely, there is no static increase to HP flow that can ever permanently address it. This isn't some arcane and difficult concept to explain or to grasp; this is just math. Unless they want to start multiplying my HP gains by a factor derived from my roster size, giving me an extra 250 or 2500 or 25000 HP every once in a while will eventually become irrelevant, because my roster costs will always catch and then exceed my income.

Come on, fellas. Just cap costs and make the economy stable. You'd think it would be a priority for them; it seems like a less volatile economy would be easy to dissect and properly monetize.
  • Maybe I am just a pessimist but the things that stuck out to me were all bad. They basically said they are REDUCING the amount of 2 star covers you can get from random drops to help the roster slot problem. As in, you get less covers at a lesser rate now so you have longer to save up HP for a slot? This not only hurts new players trying to build up 2 stars, it also hurts the vets as those sell for a pretty nice 250 iso.

That and the fact that I think (Will?) Said he reset his whole roster on the live game to help see how it is for beginners coming up. That's great and all but who is out there on the live server playing at a vets level? Judging by the answers from the final question, nobody on the team is actively trying to win covers from pve and pvp at a high level. They don't know how hard it really is paying 800hp and up for a roster slot all the while facing level 350+ enemies every 8 hours for 7 days for the chance at probably 1 new cover. In their minds, nothing is wrong with rosters slots or scaling because they are still in newbie brackets with 300hp roster slots.

Some good points, though I think they said that if/when they reduce 2 star covers as PvP rewards they will keep the net ISO the same.

Next Q&A, we should upvote a question asking how large their rosters are and their personal view of the high-level player's perspective.

Jct, how large is your roster? Are you doubling up on most of the available guys? I have everyone cept the usual suspects of terrible and I'm hitting 750 a pop right now and it hurts me. I can't imagine how bad it is for you.

I have 118 slots. Every character available. Doubles of most. There are still a few that elude me, but I'm trying earn each duplicate and their covers manually, as in not buying them. So it's taking a little while on those. My next slot is 3,100 Hp. My OCD won't be satisfied until I have at least 2 of each. This is where the DDQ has been a huge help to me. Especially for ones I still need, like Squirrel Girl. I have one of her, but haven't gotten a cover to start her back up yet. With DDQ, I will get her eventually icon_e_wink.gif .

EDIT:... after posting this, I pulled a Star Lord, Invisible Woman, Elektra, aaaaannnnndddd Squirrel Girl! All 4 I needed to start back ups icon_e_biggrin.gif . So now I'm at 122 slots. After you get 100 slots, they go up by 100 Hp per slot. Before that, they go up by 50 every 3 or 4 I think, (can't remember what it is exactly).

Another problem is I'm a comic junky icon_lol.gif . At this point, I'm addicted beyond redemption, so why fight it? icon_e_biggrin.gif
I enjoy match 3 games, and with the Marvel characters tossed in, I never stood a chance icon_lol.gif .

I played the new Assassins Creed and Dragon Age that came out last fall for about 2 days. Other than that, I have not touched my Xbox, Playstation, or Wii since late spring of 2014. I just really love MPQ. And being mobile, I can play just about anywhere, anytime. It's a match 3 game with strategy and uses characters I grew up with. It's the perfect game for me. Or, it would be if there was a playable Professor X, Pheonix(Jean Grey), and Sabertooth. Seriously D3, 3 different Wolverines and Not One Single Sabertooth?

Respectfully, I don't think you have much right to complain. I've got 53 roster spots and bought plenty of covers. I hope you share in my frustration of how much we've spent only to get them for free now in the ways of HP and covers.

That said I can completely understand and appreciate the desire to make buying your success harder as you go. More roster slots > more characters > longer play time > less disadvantages in limited character events. Having one of each character isn't cheap, but not a wholly unreasonable premium.

Having 2 of each is an insane amount of advantage, and as such, should require an insane amount of premium. I have to assume that by the time most of us get to where you are (which at the release of one char a month is in 5 years or so) they will make adjustments as they go. To play that far ahead, I am glad it's that pricey, otherwise everyone would have it.

To be clear though I have no problem with how you choose to spend your money. This is a great game and I totally get why you would. After my concussion I learned how to read again with marvel comic books and have a special affinity for them. Keep spending if it makes you happy, but I wouldn't expect much sympathy for it.

50 comments in and no one has discussed the existing male MPQ character that's getting 4* treatment. They also mention characters deserving to exist across 1, 2, 3 and 4* "domains".

Obvious hints to Iron Man, Spider-Man, or Magneto. They specifically mentioned Iron Man and Magneto in design as well as who they're currently playing. They're not smart enough to sculpt their words and truly disguise the character getting 4* treatment.

Now if we can get /u/turul to chime in on this...

    Moore"]Hi everyone,

With one day left in the month - we're just in time for the February Marvel Puzzle Quest Community Q&A!

Last month's debut of the video format Q&A session got the thumbs-up from the MPQ community, so we're repeating the process.

    *Update: Questions Answered:

"There have been rumblings about a daily non-competitive PVE or a third 'liquid' in the game to add ease with the transition to 3-Star. Can you provide any updates on this?"

"With more 4-Stars coming into the mix, are there any plans to increase the amount of Iso that can be gained from rewards?"

"Any progress you want to share on the fix for the Roster Slots prices?"

"What's the timeframe for a visible Shield cooldown timer? Once you've shielded, there's no way to see the remaining time left on the cooldown of a different length Shield."

"We generally understand that tiles are generated 'randomly' during a game. However, that has not stopped many of us from anecdotally observing that there are periods when the AI seems to constantly get favourable cascades, or that friendly countdown tiles (especially X-Force recovery) often seem to get cleared away in a ridiculously unlikely fashion. This could be explained by confirmation bias. Still, it would be nice if you could go on the record to settle any doubts and explain the game's tile generation process, and whether there are situations where it is not totally random."

"When deciding the artwork for a new character, are you allowed to use Marvel's previous works in comics or must you start your own from scratch?"

"How do you decide which characters get multiple versions (Storm, Wolverine, Thor, Black Widow, etc.) and should we expect to see many more multiple versions of existing characters to show up in the 'near future?'"

"What are your favorite MPQ teams to play as?"

See that question that is bold and bigger and underlined? That was my question from the Q&A...it got 2 likes. 2....why are they choosing a question with only 2 likes???? Aren't they supposed to be choosing from the most popular questions as voted by the forum goers??? I thank you for answering this random question I decided to ask, but seriously, if you want us to take you seriously, answer the green questions with at least 25 likes!!!!

I saw it as an excuse to get an artist in the video. Maybe he won the office Superbowl pool.

As with any marketing material, you dable in the odd slight amount of information with a heap of fluffy feel good nothing and put emphasis on any small "feature" that you want to push. IMO it's a good question, but there are probably more pressing ones that needed answering, which is why it was probably selected, so there wasn't time for some hard nosed gonzo journalism style questions.

Deadpool's Daily Quest is not a fix; not for ISO nor is it a fix for coins for large rosters. Quite the opposite, actually. DDQ makes leveling an even bigger problem.

I have 490+ days played and need 840k ISO to zero balance my roster. I have 39k ISO saved. It means I still need to spend $1100 USD to get to zero, and will immediately be back in the hole after I get my 3* cover from the DDQ refresh in 9 hrs.

EFF that. ISO did not get fixed. Cover accrual moderately improved. Coin earning per week got SLIGHTLY better for transitional players.
