Leveling 2*Hawkeye, Cap, Torch, MsMarvel.....Yay or Nay?

You say that as if placing top 5 is super easy for a 2* roster to do. PvP is the best way to get 3* covers once you already have 3* covers. With the 900 progression you can reliably get 3-5 once you have an established PvP team. With 2*s you would be lucky to pull off 25+, more likely 100+, and I doubt you are getting an alliance cover (in PvP).

Your first 166 is going to come from a top 20 PvE finish coupled with a progression reward, a lucky token pull, and MAYBE 2 covers from a PvP if you are lucky. In a top 100 alliance for PvE that's 8/13, then its either wait it out or boost 5 covers. The character dilution is making it much harder to wait it out for transition players.

You couldn't have described it better ( ok maybe you could have).
That's exactly how it starts .
For me. I g it top 5 in PvE when Mohawk storm was new. Got 3 covers then they had her available in PvP 2 days later and I got top 5 ( mind you PvP was not a slaughter house at this time) and I had 6. And they kept offering her as between season rewards . abd I bought two of her covers

Then deadpool became available got 3 from PvE . 2 from PvP and then they just started shooting him at me out of tokens. I bought the 2 covers for him also.

Hood was not a characters I ever won in PvP or PvE. I just kept getting him out of tokens. Between season 3 and 8 I had acummulated 10 covers and then I got a top 5 in PvP when he was available .
I ended up buying a cover because I had 4,5,4 and I wanted 5,5,3

The biggest things the lower transitioned ( I'm still transitioning) they need to know when to go all out.
Like if you have a 3 star who has 6 or 7 covers you need to wait for they are available and score your self a top 25 wasting 700 hero pints on shields if you must it's a lot cheaper than 1250 ( top 5 if possible) then your at 9 covers.

And after that drop 20 bucks and buy 2 covers. Do this for 2 heroes And then you can compete all the time

As someone mired in the 2* transition, I'd say 2* Hawkeye is a definite yes. Speed shot (always combined with 2* Magneto, and normally with 2* Storm) is an absolute lifesaver for blasting through the hit-points of really highlevel PVE opponents at a reasonable pace. He can even steal wins in high level Gauntlet nodes where a straight up slugfest is hopeless.

The other three are more debatable. I decided against Cap, and don't have any regrets. OBW/Daken/Thor and Mags/Storm/Hawkeye give me two very good shots at the Deadpool Daily Survival node before dipping into Health Packs, and that's the only place he would ever be of needed. I did level Marvel and Torch, but during a roster crunch decided to sell one of the two. I kept Torch because he has best-in-class red and black abilities (a buffed Fireball is a thing of beauty). Yes, his durability sucks, but I'm rotating Torch in as a third in PvE/Shield, or as part of a ramshackle team to clean-up low level enemies.

Actually, I would probably drop Wolverine before Torch, as Torch combos so well with Ares-or-Thor/OBW while Wolverine is overshadowed by the twin G/R/Y tanks.

It's wise to max level the 2stars that get buffed in pve often. They are cstorm, Hawkeye, wolverine, ms. Marvel, human torch, magneto, Thor, obw 3-5-5 and I like to keep the dark avenvers around because they are awesome together. 2 star cap can be sold off once Steve rogers starts to get strong. Some of these 2star players are good enough to keep around for good. Hope this helps

If you plan to try and kill it at PVE, I'd suggest that 2nd fully maxed copies of 2* Magneto/Storm may be more useful to you than a 1st human torch or ms marvel (but not hawkeye)?
i'm also in the 2 star transition and am going to try this myself as it will let me last longer in PVE refreshes

If you're actively buying roster slots with money, sure. If not, you're going to be selling 3* covers really soon if you're not doing awful in pve and keeping duplicate 2*s.

I have 39 slots as of right now, and one of them includes my second original Black Widow.

She is the only duplicate character that I plan on having, and that's only because everyone votes her as the best 2 star in existence.

I guess I will eventually have to sell off my Dr Octopus and my SheHulk ( I already sold off my Beast), but I am really, really, really hesitant to because I have a strong feeling that when they come outta the vault they are going to be amazing.

I'd keep she HULK. But maybe that's because I like female character.

Noo it's just becuase she isn't that bad. And has massive health.
