Just wanted to vent.

Divine Champions is the first tournament I've actually been disgusted by playing.

Having a powered up level 50 thor one shot my level 70 punisher, 45 ares, obw, and wolverine is pretty dumb.
Coupled w/ storm and or ragnaros - I've had the urge to throw my ipad at the wall many times.

I really need green and red punisher covers badly too icon_e_sad.gif

  • Wow, what kind of damage is a lvl 50 Thor cranking out? Ares should be buffed for this as well. I wouldn't expect a one-shot on him, especially him being so close in level. Did he have a ton of strike tiles?
  • I've had an unusually high percentage of unfriendly maps (nothing but blue and purple matches for my Ares-led team, for like 7 of the first 10 rounds) and insane cascades against me in this one, so it may just be weird luck. I've found this the most frustrating tournament in ages, but I might have messed up my mmr during Rage and Ruin (where I had pretty much my best tournaments to date).
  • That buffed 50 thor hit me for 2500. My ares is not able to generate yellows as fast as Thor - and obv because I'm on offense I'm at a huge disadvantage in terms of sustainability.
    No strike tile were around.

I think just the divine brings out the most annoying combos buffed - thor / storm makes me want to rip my eyes out hahaha.
  • This tournament is just difficult to win against Ares/Thor/whatever because of their resilence and redunency (taking/stunning out one doesn't stop the other from plowing you with their APs). But the reverse is also true when people are attacking you.
  • i havent been feeling this one either. probably bc it was the only game in town once the hunt ended and i needed a break. i joined it, ground up to 125 or so and thew in a bagman/yelena squad for the folks who care to grind it out.

im glad the LRs are running now.

  • I really think bracket placement has more of an impact on your enjoyability than any other factor.

My first RnR bracket was a joke. Cakewalked to first place, but had to grind my way to hit 2400 progression. Got lucky that morning and found a high level shielded tank team to get over the hump.

The 2nd round was a god damn nightmare. nothing but -40's every 3 minutes, had to burn two shields just get through the 1200 barrier. Got a bit easier once I got past 1300, but then had to go toe to toe with Freestye for first place with multiple shield breaks down the stretch in a tit for tat war. Finally caught him unshielded and banged him for a -40 pt swing... Burned ungodly amounts of HP for X-Force and IW. Eff you freestye : )

My divine bracket is more closer to first RnR. comfortably in first, got whacked for a few -40's on the way up, but never more than two or three times each push. Sitting in 1st with 2021, gonna bang out last progression tonight then shield away the duration.

My advice, wait a half day or so before you enter the tourney. I entered the 2nd RnR right when it started because I wanted to try out my leveled up Ares, and I think that contributed to the more ferocious competition in my bracket.

I delayed my entry for the other two tourneys and have had a much much easier road.

I don't know if there's any empirical evidence to back this up, or if I just got lucky/unlucky, but it seems waiting before entering isn't a bad thing, even if you plan on going for full progression.
  • Thor is one of the better defensive characters in the game, so it doesn't surprise me that a buffed version would cause some raging.
  • Yeah, with so many buffed characters, this tournament is a real pain. I've been running Thor/Ares/Spidey and have been doing OK thanks to Spideys stun lock and heal. But leaving Ares with 10hp and then watching him wipe your team is quite annoying.
  • If you're still struggling, use stockpile all and stockpile blue boosts and classic storm. one quad match or 2 blue matches gets you wind storm which will usually kill or cripple the support character and stun Thor or Ares. Just make sure you take a chunk out of opponent's storm, so that it kills her before you fire up the wind storm. By the time stun wears off, you should have enough AP to finish em off with minimal health lost.

Not gonna get any iso this way, but you can bang out wins quickly without having to use health packs.
  • Not rocket science to know if you don't have a toon that's buffed for DC you're gonna get owned. Thor and Ares are monsters in this, my 70 Thor is doing 3800+ lightning strikes with yellow and has over 8000 hp fully healed. CStorm is AOEing blue for 2200 at level 60, dropping or coming close to dropping most non buffed toons in one shot. Fun stuff for me.
  • On this touranment I decided to try the opposite and entered immediately figuring everyone will be trying to join later and so far my bracket seems surprisingly tame. However I don't have the right personnel to make a run at #1 so that didn't turn out to be very useful.

I think you're also more likely to be matched up against guys in your own bracket (last R&R 4 of the opponents I'm regularly matched are all in my bracket) to combat tanking while shielded (so that if you do that you definitely lose your ranking in your bracket) so the bracket you're in may have even more than usual influence.
  • I never have any problems with any matches. I play wolverinw/black widow/ares in this tourney. When in any tourney, I always use full ap boosts so that I don't waste any time within fights. If you waste time, then you get attacked and it takes twice as long to reach your goal.

So, having full ap boosts, my black widow has enough purple before the time the opp team has enough AP for an attack, and by that time wolverine already dropped a bunch of attack tiles and their team is half dead.

I understand why Thor, Ares, and Storm are dominating, its their event. Take fighting with Punisher to lighting rounds. I waited along time for a thor and storm power up, dont complain or "vent" too much. Im #4, but i might just be in a better bracket than you.

Absolutely love this brutal slaughter. Running maxed Ares, Thor, C Storm is a heap of fun. I hope we'll get many other tourneys like this one (buffed Grey Widow doing 6k dmg to all?).
  • If you use boosts obviously there's no real difference between this tournament and any other one since character HP/damage abilities are scaled roughly equally, so if you could kill someone in 3 turns with boosts when the characters aren't boosted, you still can do that when characters are boosted.

But without boosts it's pretty much a slaughterhouse out there.
  • I don't think it's bracket..

I've never reached more than 800 points in any tourney before.
Some of you are talking about reaching 2k lol.

I'm just at that weird middle ground where I haven't transitioned to 3 stars.

I also don't have enough boosts stockpiled..or have enough covers to max classic storm.

And for the people who said I can't/shouldn't vent - f off.

I can do whatever I damn well please. I love this game - just the characters buffed during this divine round are incredibly annoying to play against defensively like some have echod multiple times.

I hadn't gone over 600 or so until they introduced shields... it's doable now albeit grindy.
  • In the shield era getting a high rating is all about breaking a certain threshold. Like you'd be playing your games and you'd go up and down like usual, and then suddenly you'd see some guy who is shielded (usually because his points are way higher than you and you noticed his points never went down) and that's like hitting the pinata and you can just smack that guy 5 or 10 times over and over and gain 400 points and then leave the pack behind. Of course a lot of the time you never find that shielded guy so you never escape the pack. The more you play, the more likely you might find such a guy, but it's far from guaranteed.

You can still escape the pack the old fashioned way, by just pushing during odd hours, so that they're retaliating after you made the push

Well, if you don't need to sleep, that always works too.
