I think it looks like a logjam because of the lower amt of points collected by everyone in the nodes. I find the grind no different from 2.5 hr refresh except for the fact that i feel less tired out during the event and i dont have to watch the clock that often.
Edit: Ok maybe that is a lot of difference in terms of actual grinding. I guess what i meant to say was the actual chase/competition in top 5 and 10 over the course of the event doesnt feel that much different. Yeesh, i hope that made sense...0 -
My largest complaint with the 8 hr refreshes is that if you dont have the required characters for all the nodes, you fall behind even faster. For example its very difficult to get to the end of the progression rewards to compete in this without already having Deadpool. With 3-4 hr refreshes it was easier to hit that last progression reward and have time to do some of the features nodes to try and catch up.0
-
Ok, but scores overall are going to be lower, so you actually miss either A) Less essential node refreshes because they are longer or the same number of essential node refreshes but over a longer period of time. Either way, once you do get your Deadpool the gap is smaller because you missed less refreshes or the same as it would have been anyway (only with less time to catch up).
Either way a top 150 finish should be possible once you claim your Deadpool and with enough grind, getting you back on the PvE train.0 -
I guess it's mostly my bracket then. 3 subs in, and still only 6-7% separating 1st thru 10th, and the top 4 are all within 1k of each other. And it no longer feels like all this grinding is worth the extra cover.0

PvE is always pretty luck dependent on brackets. In case you were wondering why it's often painful for you.... there is pretty hardcore sorting of players in PvE. In the 4Thor PvE some of my alliance mates were waiting for the last 71 places to fill in a bracket so they could get a fresh one and it was taking FOREVER. So I grabbed my phone and joined with the basically unused account I had on there and ended up in a bracket with 83 ppl in it. I then downloaded MPQ on my spare steam account, joined and now it was a bracket of 84. That bracket reached 481 before the "vets bracket" filled up.
So the "slight nudge" they put in to help newbies was shuffling 397 ppl into a fresh newbie bracket before 71 got into a vet one. So you're getting shuffled pretty firmly into painful grinding brackets if you dare to have played the game for too long .
Incidentally my top 6 is pretty damn close in score. Just falls off some from there. If there were still 3h refreshes it would probably be a bit more spread but I also reckon it would take a lot more effort for me to be first in that case. So i'll take the hardcore end of sub grinding which will be less irritating when the subs aren't so bloody short. 12h subs on 8h refreshes is kind of messed up0 -

That's the sub before Russia right? I have 59500 prior to start of Russia, though I also got psychos I need to fend off in my own bracket and would definitely trade them for your psychos. Psycho is a relative term!0 -
3 hours after Russia, my T10 spread is 62k to 38k. Admittedly a slacker bracket.
Hopefully we can all get back together for the next 4* release.0 -
Finished my refresh on California & Italy about 30 min ago and my bracket it 79,845 to 71,351. Only 8494 points separate 1st and 10th.0
-
My bracket has been open since the second set of subs started.
Leader has 65,657.
10th has 47,170
As stated previously, it all seems to depend more on who is actually in your bracket.0 -
Agree that it is really your bracket and who is in it probably is the major factor, second to last sub open (Spain and Indonesia) and there's currently 28k between 1st and 10th (first slice). Which for this event is a pretty significant margin.
I imagine separation gets more pronounced near the end of the event once folks settle into what place they want and switch to a maintain position mindset. This was true in the old format too with new character releases AFAIK.0 -
In Slice 1, I joined the second the PvE began, 1st has 117145 and 10th has 84963 so there is still quite a separation between first and tenth.
I prefer 8 hour refreshes, although 12 hour subs suck lol...0 -
Another factor to consider. If you're using the fresh bracket thread, you may end up with a lot more forumites, who know how to play.0

I posted the fresh bracket status for the 4hor release and got about 30 forum folks in it...couldn't be helped with that grind of an event but I feel like I brought it on myself, lol.0 -

I've never understood why people post bracket statuses, you are only hurting yourself and encouraging more people to "game" the system. I join right when a bracket starts, if I win I win, if I lose I lose...0 -

I have no problem with slugging it out for placement in an event but I expect to have a fair fight when I do start where a set of people don't have one or two refreshes on you. For almost everyone, losing because of circumstances out of your control is the most frustrating. And that's all bracket posting helps you do - make sure you aren't 10k behind the leader from the start because a slow filling bracket has been open for almost a day.0 -

Good point but there are some who purposely wait days in order to get a better placement and less competition although nowadays I face less competition when I start right away...I started right when event started and have a 5K lead on 2nd...And that is not playing optimally all the time///0 -
orbitalint wrote:Point of clarification: Is it wrong to do a first clear before posting or only post when your bracket is full if you luck into a super fresh bracket? I find I do the former for characters I don't need and the latter for new releases

Even if you do a full clear before posting, the lead can be overcome. If you wait a full refresh before clearing, it might not be able to be overcome. There are plenty of lurkers around that use the threads, but don't post, so there is no harm in not posting a fresh bracket. Posting a full bracket is kind of a no-brainer, since it doesn't really hurt you, and actually rewards those that chose not to compete against you in your bracket. I usually post for both, because of the above, and if I can't win in my bracket, then I accept it, and coast to whatever position I am ok with. Granted, this PVE, I wish I had an easier road, but I won't be devastated if I can't climb back into Top 2, shouldn't have slept.WilliamK99 wrote:I've never understood why people post bracket statuses, you are only hurting yourself and encouraging more people to "game" the system. Not everyone, myself included, wants to play an event for the whole duration. If I can get the same rewards as you, but play a day or two less, I'm gonna play a day or two less. And I'd rather game the system, than rely on pure luck with being sharded into a bracket. It's more about having all the possible information, so you're making an informed decision. Also, some people want to be treated the way they'd like to be treated, some like upvotes, and some want others to enjoy the game like they do. Those are just some of the reasons people post bracket statuses. Pretty sure there's a lot more.
I have no problem with your method though. If it works for you, it works for you. I have no problem with my method either. Because it works for me. Don't think I'm only hurting myself. Actually, I have plenty of Top 2 covers to prove that I'm not.0 -

Yeah, our bracket leaders are on a pretty robotic pace. I've had about 10-12 hours rotating throughout the event where I did non-optimal refreshes and they keep piling on the points at optimal times. Though, I'm glad our top 8 has finally made enough separation to make end-of-sub grinds less relevant. I left most of those Doom/Feeder nodes alone after hitting them once or twice. Forget about the Ares/2x Feeder nodes earlier this weekend.0 -
And this is exactly why the people suggesting that they make smaller brackets are crazy. Imagine this kind of score compression if you needed top 5 for 3 covers, or probably top 2 if it's a 4* release. You're not competing against all 1k people in your bracket, just the 9, 19, 49, or what have you for the reward bracket you're aiming for, which wouldn't be drastically effected if the bracket sizes were cut in half0
