I think it would be a good idea to make a poll about the new scoring/shield system. It would show the developers how we are going to play with these changes.

    What option(s) do you miss?
  • How about "don't plan to use shields if double priced."
  • Unless I leave completely I'll probably do the same as with LR: jump in for few games to some progression and bail out. Guess fo tournaments it will be like this:

    - wait a period close to end, when there are many top points
    - go for 8 50 pts matches
    - if got hit en-route by someone do 1 more
    - grab the HP at 400 and walk

I bet the top people will be "overly happy" for getting mugged -- but that is exactly why I stop aiming up.

Possibly eventually all switch to this **** and the whole system collapse.

Welcome to the extended-length LR hell. Leave your HP by the door.
  • Yeah shields are not worth it now with the double price. I am NOT using them anymore, and that means I am screwed out of top finishes now because Unless you get lucky in the last half hour you lose.
  • I won't be using them.

I won't be trying to place high in tournaments. What's the point?

That's the sentiment I fear becoming common. I know I won't be shooting high unless the threshhold is pretty low. What I forsee occuring: A small handful of players continue playing like they have. Most other players stop trying to get higher than maybe six to seven hundred points. Basically, the same situation we had before shields, except with a fringe of players willing to buy their way to wins and high progression awards.

On the optimistic side, they have said this is an experiment. Hopefully it will not be made permanent.
  • I felt the previous shield prices were perfectly priced. All they really had to do was just increase the range of people you can attack. Although maybe not quite so big a range.
  • It's like the devs move 1 step forward and then 2 steps back on everything. So annoying. Its going to end up just Marel War of heros when people stop playing because of the ridiculous prices on things. icon_e_wink.gif

Don't even remind me of that game. I was in a top 150 clan (which got me all the juicy rewards) and STILL hated it. People kept saying they'll boycott the game and stop buying packs after the Co-Op X fiasco, but they still kept buying. I fear that people will do the same thing when it comes to Shields and the next eventual money sink D3P puts out there.
  • Since day 1 of shield release, I have never seen any reason to use them. Even at half the original cost in LR's, I didnt. There is really no incentive for me to use them, so they could be free at base level or cost 1000 hp, I have never had that feeling of "ohmygod I must use a shield now, now, now!".

If I get attacked, so what? Chances are that person will shield when they get high enough anyways, then I just attack, get boosted even higher, and rinse/lather/repeat. I utilized the same retaliation mechanic prior to shield introduction, and it works good enough.
  • Close to quitting this game. The recent money hogging schemes by d3publisher is getting out of control.

Nerf to force using health pack: check = more money

100% increase on shield = more money

Except when you're on top you won't be able to get boosted. Instead, you can retaliate for 5-9 points. You'll get net loss of 20++ points and possibility to get another retaliation for 30+ points. What you describe work only for middle ratings and with removed ceiling even that won't work.

If no one uses shields, then no one get good rewards. You might freeride your way up without buying one, but that's just that, a freeride.

You mean like after they increased slot prices. Or when they increased token prices (though the sales did help)

Which loops right back around to my original statement. If I can get a free ride to the top, especially in the "dying" hours of the tournament and still get the prog prizes, what's there to make me want to buy and use a shield? I still get the same prizes as the person shielded next to me, without the worry of... well, wasting HP on it to begin with.
  • I think the original idea of shields was pretty lame in the first place. Unless you have placed high in many other tournaments, and stock piled a bunch of HP, then they did not correct the issue of a faulty progression rewards system rather than just charge you money to win (P2W???). Sure more people are reaching the higher tier progressions, because they spent money on HP however, those that cannot afford to due so were still less likely to achieve them. Regardless, shields are here and I'm sure they are here to stay. I do find it odd that the devs decided that since people were breaking down and buying shields--because they wanted to win placement or progression rewards--to raise the price by 100%. I mean I understand raising the cost of a product that sells, but 100%? I truly hope this does not last seeing as how over the past 2 months or so the game has been moving towards a pay-to-win style. Personally I agree with the recent nerfs and buffs (yes all of them) and I'm incredibly interested to see the future of this game. I only hope that I can continue to play it without breaking my bank.

Not to be defeatist, but I also voted: "Dont try very hard on the tournament."

The first tournament when shields were introduced was (I think) my best ever finish, but since then top scores have rocketed and I both haven't figured out how people do it nor do I have the time (/Spider-man?) to even try and keep up.
Just ambling though the first few milestones and farming for 70-140 ISO wins when out of PvE options - any tokens I pick up after conclusion just a bonus.

Game could run a bit dry when there's not a PvE event up, but at least there's been a lot of those lately. icon_cool.gif
Just got to resist pumping ISO in to characters for tournament buffs - do so on instinct, but since Ares is 99-1 to ever be buffed in PvE I must stick solely to heroes in future!

Yeah, with the way it just stacks up piles of -50 attacks on you, I'm not even going to try for 2400. And probably not going to even bother with #1

Thats where I'm at, unless #1 is extremely low hanging fruit near the end.
