1000pt pvp progression

Just mainly speaking for myself, lowering the score required for final pvp progression reward makes no difference for someone like me with the average 3* roster team. Yes I do have an xforce 5/5/3 but that's about it amongst the usual 166 key players - Patch, Hulk, Hood, Cmags, Lthor, Panther, Stevie, LDaken and Sentry (Sent...who?).
My problem is hitting that 1k which in all honesty seems like a climb to 1300...my short story:
Just earlier I unshieled and tried to make a move towards hitting that Elektra cover in High stakes. Was at 917 or something and played 2 matches which would have made me about 45pts. I tapped out of the screen and saw some hits like -53pts in total, made a retal, won back 22pts, tapped out of the screen and got hit for -33pts. So in total I played 3 matches and got whooped 5 times.
So the question is: When I unshield does this make me a BIG advertisement for the wolves that flashes across their screen that says "Whoop this fools a** now for 30pts"? I mean when I went to bed shielded, there was only 1 attack throughout my 8hrs beauty sleep. I wake up play for like 5 mins and got hit multiple times...why does this happen? I know I give out good pts and am an easy target but it's as though theres an alert or notification that prompts attackers when I'm making a move. It's really frustrating
The hits don't really doesn't bother me as I am not looking for placement, I usually end pvp at 800-900 mark just for top 10/25 with no stress but with the introduction of lowered progression score I thought why not try make that extra 100 or so...should be doable right? Wrong. It's as stressful as playing for top 5 spot and shield cooldowns aren't really helping.
Which brings me back to my short story, is it really possible for those that don't have max featured + dinofurygoddessforce?Maybe I'm missing something in terms of selecting time slots or observing active play times idk.
I am now left with 873pts and not any nearer to my goal cause all im seeing is xforce/goddess/249blades.
Would appreciate any advice as to how a small fish like me can attain my goal.
Thanks for reading ps. Not complaining or anything but it's annoying that it always happens this way...how many of you have experienced receiving that cover reward and the next thing you know it disappears and youve been jacked for like -50pts. Me...all the time

Don't be greedy, especially right now with every fight taking a lot longer due to the goon banner pause, this gives you a lot less time than normal to work with.0
-
First match out of shield, you're almost sure to not get hit. Second match is usually safe, just dont take too long.
Third match, you're much more likely to get hit unless you have a strong team and even there. More than 3 matches
and you're just asking for it at that point.0 -
I would echo what others have said and take it one step further, when I get to 850+ish...2 fights max, when I get above 900ish, 1 fight max, to me the extra shield cost is so much better than going through the gang bang that occurs. You have a better roster than me, I've hit 1k a few times under the new shield cool down and that's the strategy I use. I've noticed that above 900ish, although very doable to fight more, 2 fights is about it and that's if you do them fast which gets very hard since it's all maxed featured, force and thors. But don't lose heart, it's very doable.0

Keep in mind even if you were able to do say 3 matches reliably prior to R70, you may no longer be able to do so after the change. To illustrate, let's say it takes 5 minutes before someone queues you up before you unshieid, and it takes you 2 minutes to beat anyone and vice versa. In this scenario, it takes 7 minutes before your first loss comes in, so you can beat 3 guys with a minute to spare. After R70, every fight is longer due to the pause, so let's just add 1 minute to the time. Now it takes 8 minutes before your first loss comes in, but since your game requires 3 minutes a piece, you can only beat 2 guys safely and you'd be exposed for a minute to go for 3 matches.0

Make sure you can find 40+ matches and try to do just do one match per hop past 900 pts. If that's too expensive, be happy with the 3* cover at 900. I think that one is pretty attainable with your Roster.0 -
I finished my run to 1k about an hour ago. I'm also in 16th place after doing so (slice 4), so that helps.
I have my lvl 206 optimal XForce, but rely on my 3*s (Thor 166, Deadpool 155, Hood 151, Daken 147, Cap 144) to do the rest. For this one, Blade is 128, boosted to 192, which also helps. In general, my best results are when one of those listed are featured, for obvious reasons.
I did two hops. From 734 to 914, 914 to 1003. 5 matches and 3 matches. Both post R70 update. Was using XForce/Cap here. Finding this to me my favorite hop team now, because there are so many 4Thors, you're going to Surgical some red eventually, and he's the beefiest option (Thor has more HP, but his red is considerably weaker).
Now, why I'm hidden enough to get 5 matches in during that first hop, I'm not sure, but it's not irregular. But in general, I never stop on that first hop until a hit rolls in, whether 1, 3 or 10 (ok, it's never 10). Only exceptions are if I run out of health packs, or have to spend an inordinate amount of time finding a decent target (basically, if I hit the skip tax). Yes, occasionally this will backfire, but usually I get a warning salvo from someone who manages to win quickly before the rest of hits come rolling in.
TL;DR: Yes, you can get there with out 249-270-270. Requires some luck, definitive boosting, and shield spend (375HP for me in this case, 8-3-8).0 -

It should feel like hitting the old 1300 before cool downs. The target is to have the same percentage hitting that 1300 hitting this 1000. So if you couldn't hit 1300 before cool downs, you shouldn't hit 1000 now, unless of course your roster or your play has improved.
If too many ppl are hitting 900 or 1000, then they'll raise the progressive until the target percentage is hitting the 4* progressive.
Tl; dr: keep improving your play and roster and you'll eventually be able to hit 1000.0 -

Maybe the issue is your timing? I've found with shield cool downs certain times are just death traps, while others not so bad since everyone else already did their hop and is shielded.0 -
Never did much shield hopping except during the Anniversary and to get my last xf black last season, but with the lowered progressions it seemed worth trying again.
Just made a trial run for Electra today - my secret real dream is to get that first IW green in tomorrow's Lord of Thunder to go with my dino covers landing in daily supply.
I have a lazy (actually iso-starved) roster with xforce and a bunch of my favourite 3*s cover-maxed but capped at 150 so they are usable in mid-tier pvp (600-800 for top 25ish) while my pve scaling is like fluffy kittens.
Made it to exactly 1k with 2 shields (and a lucky defense win).
How I did it (might not work for everyone, but you can probably find a variation that works for you)
Pick the time slice with all the high scorers if you can find out which one it is. Start with some extra time in case of matches going bad/attacks, and also you get fewer attacks while climbing early. Pick high point targets, don't get greedy and try too many matches. I went with 2.
Like everyone else says, pick characters that can make effective use of whatever ap you get from surgical - green, red, or whichever is the strongest colour on a maxed featured. If you can get 800-900 normally it should be doable. And never use the loaner.
Good luck!0 -
Wow. I'd be happy to just hit 600. It's really hard for someone with a 2* /3* roster to ever place top 100. I usually just play for the progression rewards bc I don't need any of the less than 100 place rewards. Something really doesn't seem right. It seems like I'd at least have a shot every once once in a while.?? I dunno. Enjoy your top 100 rewards0

I have never really tried shield hopping, so I have a question for the experts:
When do you begin to shield hop? I mean, how many points do you score before raising your first shield, in average?0 -

Not an expert by any means, but I just try to climb as fast and high as I can until I run out of health packs or start getting attacks/retals, in which case I turtle up immediately because they tend to come in a bunch.
Depends a little on your roster - you can afford to take your time and climb higher if you have strong maxed characters - I've seen people go straight to 900+ right away with no shields, but I find my non-maxed team starts getting lots of attacks as I approach or pass 800, so I usually stop around there.0 -

I was able to get to 1000 points with little difficulty - played up to 800 something, shielded since I was boarding a plane. Lined up a few 35 pointers while shielded. Did the push with about 90 minutes left. Got hit a few times but still managed to get to 1000. I played X-force (5/5/3, level 220), maxed Blade and Classic Magneto. Looking forward to doing it again.0

How do you guys climb so high? I think I'm falling into too high of a bracket bc it's very difficult for me to get past 500 or so. Then I get pounded if I try to go higher or if I'm not shielded and if I try to play between shields I also get pummeled. I was tanking at the first to get better position but it seems like now as soon as you sign up for Pvp it already assigns you to a group. Does anyone know if this is true? I have all maxed 2* and 1 maxed 3* but A few 3* close I just need to level them up and get a couple more colors. How does the game decide what bracket you fall in? Even in pve I've noticed that it's very hard to complete levels and I end up destroying my team fast and having to use power ups. I've been playing over a year and almost every day. How does this all factor in? Thanks for the advice in advance.0

So basically I'm stuck in transition. Great. It sucks.0

Per turul's post, it seems some new stuff will be coming soon to help with that.0 -
People are missing another huge issue with the progression. Because of cooldowns people at higher scores are shielded much longer and only are unshielded briefly. That means there are substantially fewer high-point targets for players with lower scores to attack. So the player visible at 970 will be targeted a lot more than in the past, when those lower level players could choose between multiple targets in that scoring range or higher.0
