I created a poll supposing we get to vote on who gets released next. Obviously I can't list all the fun ones, but chime in and let me know who you'd want next.

This had been done before, Gambit was a decisive winner. Who'd we get instead? Girl Thor, Elektra, Rocket & Groot, Gamora, Cage, Squirrel Girl...

They don't care who we want to see

They release a new character every two weeks. They released Deadpool for the anniversary. That was someone that people had requested.

I am sure Gambit will appear sooner or later, before his movie at least.

Deadpool was released in August; Devil Dinosaur was the Anniversary release.

My issue with dr strange is that I don't understand how he would be fleshed out in this game.

Huh. I remember Devil in the anniversary... Why did I think Deadpool came out then? My memory fails me.

Anyway, with a new character every two weeks, I expect the Cajun **** to appear in MPQ one day, chere.

Why would a company aim to not serve its customers? As I wrote, new character every two weeks. Just relax. I'm sure he's in progress.
  • My guess is that, when he won the contest, they hadn't done anything at all towards designing the character, and so he entered the pipeline at that point, and had a ton of hurdles to clear before he could be made. I suspect character development is a fairly slow process, and Marvel may need to approve at multiple stages of development.

Plus he is a mutant, and Marvel is down playing them (as much as they can and shifting the focus of new characters to Inhumans), as they don't control the movie licenses at this time for those characters. I personally would love to have the White Queen in game, as would my eldest daughter, who is named after her (Frost is her middle name and I am sure you can guess her first).

I think the approval process goes as such:

"Marvel we would like to make these characters."

"Hmmm I guess we can approve another classic character, but could you please get a few of these characters (hands a list of movie and set to be relaunched in comics characters), before you ask again."

"If that is what it takes to keep the license, sure thing."

That is why we are seeing the Gaurdians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Lady Thor and Squirrel Girl, come out. From my conversations with them at C2E2, I get the impression that they would love to cover a lot of the classic characters, but their hands are a bit tied with what gets approved. I'm fine with it for the most part, as the alternative is they crank out characters at a more alarming rate, just so they can keep ahead of the requests from the Marvel side.

I suppose Colossus, Mystique, and Beast don't count, or Deadpool icon_neutral.gif There are a lot of mutants in the game, and a lot added in the past four months. X-characters seem pretty fairly represented, to the point that they can hold 'Children of the Atom' PVPs featuring only those characters.

I don't understand how this Internet rumour about Marvel playing down mutants over film rights got any legs. Uncanny X-Men, All-New X-Men, Amazing X-Men, X-Men, X-Force, X-Factor, Deadpool, Deadpool vs Hawkeye, Cyclops, Storm, Magneto, Nightcrawler. (did I miss any? Not sure.).. 2014 seems to have been a massive year for X-comics. Much more than I could afford (I stuck to Uncany and All New). I can believe Disney is not featuring them on their end, but if anything, Marvel publishes too many X-comics.

My comment about downplaying mutants was more about the Marvel Universe in general. Can you name the last "new" mutant that was created in the Marvel Universe, and when? I certainly can name a number of "new" Inhumans in the past few months. They don't want any new IP that might take off, to fall under some other company's movie rights. It totally makes sense from a business standpoint.

As far as MPQ goes, I didn't say that they were not making any, just that they are trickling in the developers wants amongst the other releases that Marvel has probably "recommended". This is again speculation, from conversations I have had with the team at a comic convention. They said they have lots of characters they would love to make in the game, but they all have to go through an approval process, and that Marvel does indeed provide feedback and suggestions.

I looked for a recent list, but couldn't find a release date list, so just going from my memory, here are the newer releases:

Deadpool - Most demanded character since launch, although I have never been a fan
Blade - No clue why he showed up, besides Halloween themed, but I am glad he did
Captain Marvel - Relaunched #1 featured as the cover
Doc Oc - Classic character - shame powers are sort of weak
Rocket and Groot - Was in a movie last year
Gamora - Was in a movie last year (To me she is also a classic character, as I'm a fan of the Thanos as well as the Infinity Watch... where is Drax?)
Mystique - Classic character (Was in a movie last year)
Colossus - Classic Character (Was in a movie last year)
Luke Cage - TV Show coming up this year
Devil Dinosaur - Releasing existing cameo character to the masses
Electra - Classic Character - shame powers are sort of weak
Lady Thor - Relaunched #1 featured as the cover
Beast - Classic Character (Was in a movie last year) - shame powers are sort of weak
Squirrel Girl - Relaunched #1 featured as the cover

Do I need to wait for a new Fantastic Four movie or TV show to come out to get Mr. Fantastic and Thing?

Edit: Constantly annoyed by typos, I keep noticing as I come back to this thread.
  • As much as I hate it, I think Marvel is the reason there's no Thing or Mr. Fantastic. They're going so far as to cancel the book in advance of the (to be fair, awful-looking) movie. Marvel does not want Fox making money off the Fantastic Four, and is trying to shut down any ancillary promotion for it.

Regarding the mutants, I think Marvel is playing it a little softer. I think we'll see new mutants, but only in the X-Books, and Marvel probably isn't going to give them any kind of big push. If Kamala Khan had been introduced ten years ago, she would have been a mutant, but now, that sort of character's generally going to be an Inhuman, and it's 100% about rights. I suspect Marvel will also start tinkering with origins retroactively; I wouldn't be at all surprised if Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch become Inhumans in official Marvel continuity, for example, and go back to not being Magneto's children. If the X-Books didn't sell as well as they do, and weren't half of Marvel's comics (or whatever huge percentage they are), I suspect they'd be cancelled too. But Marvel also knows they're not getting the X-Men back, whereas they're probably going to get the FF back at some point.

Atleast you have an outside chance at Lockjaw, and Dr. Strange is close to a lock.

i voted for Gambit and Dr. Strange and save my last vote for Silver Surfer (or Black Suit Spider-Man hehe)

But on a more serious note, i'm not all that surprised that the devs are taking their time releasing popular characters. i'm not familiar with any of the politics that come down to receiving permission for character releases but if i were the devs i wouldn't give my players all the the best or popular characters at once either. it gives the player base something to hope for and look forward to. Considering the current state of the game pretty much lacks anything to appeal to player interest besides characters, they have to be careful about releases. Once a casual player has acquired all the characters he or she wants and has had their fill playing with them, they will get bored and stop playing the game. 'nuff said.

on a bit of a tangent, the only reason i am scrambling for 4hor covers is not because i actually like the character (don't know her enough to form an opinion but she does seem interesting and i look forward to learning more about her) but because i fear i won't be able to compete properly if the devs do decide to release one of the holy trinity (Gambit, Silver Surfer, and 4* Spider-man) in the near future. pVp at the moment has become stagnant for me and i had to demote my self from S-rank to A-rank level player since i lack a viable 4hor. so until i have a properly equipped 4hor (or at least somewhat functional i.e. 5 blue covers with 3 red covers), i'm just going to have to watch the top guns have all the fun and if things stay as they are pray the devs don't release gambit for another couple of months. Ce'st la vie, mon ami( ̄(エ) ̄)y-゚゚゚

The primary and only motivator is cross-marketing. Dr Strange may come out in a yearish to coincide with a movie release...which makes me so sad since I probably won't be playing by then.

So there may be hope for a gambit

My vote for Green Goblin is really a vote for Norman as Iron Patriot. I really want to finish the Dark Reign arc, just for closure and then move on to other stories.

If I was still involved in any modern marvel comics reading and I came accross that I would be enraged. I assume same would bode for Polaris as well. So, they'd ruin the "family dynamic", which is a huge and interesting driver on the story.

I get marvel is re-writing everything for a 'modern' crowd and to freshen up storylines instead or continueing on rehashing, and as a business they need to make money and get new readers....but there is a lot of good story they are axing for newer weaker story. A lot of the days of marvel's best writers and artists are behind them.

They'd have to tone him down and weaken him a pile. I would suspect some red socerrer blast for damage, a black nifty trick and possibly a yellow passive for the eye of agamotto that would dodge/resist some types of attacks?

They couldn't have him doing interdimension teleporting and basically snapping his fingers and wiping out 4 *. Not just as a fan, but I'd say he should be a 4 *. Although I'm not sure how marvel has been writing him in the last few years.

I have a feeling that with the Marvel license they are required to have certain releases, like whn 3* Cap came out around the winter Solider.

Look to see Ultron or an Avenger or something around May and look to see Ant-Man in the summer.

    My guess is this.

Marvel: You will release these characters around this time to promote our movies or shows.

    D3: Sure thing, anything else.

Marvel: You currently have this pool of x amount of characters to use currently, release them as you may, but Y characters need to come out by Z date.

I'm sure D3 does listening to requests. It's like a DJ, they will take your request but if they don't have the song, you'll have to wait until next time, meanwhile if I do have the song you requested I'll put it in the que, but there are 10 songs in front of yours, so unless you pay me $ I'm not going to bump other characters already lined up.
