Tokens are depressing.

Am I the only one who feels this way? I don't need any 2* covers and the 3* are almost impossible to pull. It drags me down. I think the straw that broke my back was the last Heroic 10 pack I opened, where I pulled zero 3* covers. I don't have any characters higher than Level 94, and have 500K+ ISO saved up (since I can never level any 3*/4* characters). I am generally super unlucky so it's not shocking to me that I am unable to pull anything better than 2*, and maybe it's just me. Reading this forum I see other people getting plenty of 3*, and also plenty striking out completely the way that I seem to always do. My solution? I stopped opening the tokens. That way I don't have to walk around depressed feeling like I just lost all my money at the casino. Instead I feel good looking at my tokens, it's like watching a savings account grow. Here is my collection of depressing and worthless tokens...

Standard 128
Heroic 14 + 1x10 pack
The Hunt 1
Category-5 1
Unholy Outlaw 1
Doctor’s Orders 1
Sticks and Stones 1
The Hulk 3
Top Gun 1
Army of One 1
Hotshot 1
Cage Match 1
Earth’s Mightiest 1
Deadpool Vs. MPQ 4
Oscorp Heroic 5
Combined Arms 1
Simulator 7

Sometimes when I lose a match and it gives me the option to use some tokens, I'll do a little standard 10 pack so I can pull 10 worthless 1* covers and remember why I don't open any of these things. Good times.

  • Yes. It is utter nonsense to compete in LR/PVP/PVE for Event tokens, bust your **** for 1.5 hours straight (LR), beating Xforce/Thors with **** teams, and get a 2* capt marvel out of it.

MPQ is broken in this sense and up to this point the Devs do not care. The joke is on us for continuing to play this game.

They will tell you they don't want "Easy Mode", yet that is exactly the route they are taking forcing players to pay for covers.

Yep definitely there with you on that. I remember a time when I used to get quite a few 3* from tokens but as I've maxed out my roster ( I have about 12 maxed 3* and 3 almost maxed 4*) the odds seem to have significantly decreased. For some reason I still get excited when I earn tokens even though I know its just going to amount to another 250 iso.

Are you somewhat close to maxing any characters that you get in tokens? Even if the chance is super low, I think you're actively hurting yourself from completing the 3* transition if that is true. The only downside to opening the tokens now is if the new character rotation brings in a better pool of characters, whereas the upside is the slim possibility of getting critical covers that you may or may not need. This is purely a psychological thing after all: just open them expecting iso, and it should be good I think.
  • This is self-defeating. You have a huge supply of tokens that will definitely net you some 3* characters, and yet you are letting them sit because you insist they will not yield anything of value.

We've all thought that, and we were all wrong. Randomly generated numbers are random. Sometimes, you get 1* and 2*'s for weeks on end, and other times, you get too lucky.

What's TOO lucky? Try pulling three IW's in one week. Happened to me.

Pulled 2 xforce black in one week. It was amazing and nearly life altering
  • It may be useless 1 and 2 stars, but you'll think yourself folr saving the ISO if you cash those tokens...

There is probably 5 or so 3*'s in the tokens you already have. By not opening them, you are just depriving yourself of their use.
  • Does anybody else remember when the Devs had the nerve to say that they thought people didn't WANT a guaranteed 3* from 10 packs? Yeah, good times.

I can never wait to cash them in. Sometimes I feel I'm hurting my odds by cashing them in one at a time rather than in batches of 10 or 15... but then I remind myself, each pull is random, each pull has an equal chance of success or failure. I've had a dry spell lately, most recent cover was R&G Yellow, so I was happy about that, but then I realized he has to own the yellow tile for him to heal, and as low as his level is, he doesn't own anything but blue when he's boosted, having 2* guys with stronger yellows.

I've maxed all the 2* I want to have, don't have mhawkeye or moonstone yet, I keep selling their covers because I never have roster room, but now I'm starting a second OBW, and have 6 covers for her, but I'm half expecting that I will no longer pull those covers because I actually want them... so my luck goes.
  • Here is my trick to beat RNGesus on the 10packs. Open your single heroics one at a time, when you get a gold, immediately open the 10pack. The golds tend to come in bunches (the hamster gets stuck), so this is the best way to have good luck going into a 10pack.

I have gotten between 1 and 7 golds on my 10packs (once each), but mostly 3 to 5 golds

I remember when I first started and had very very limited room in my roster, I was scared of opening the tokens specifically because I DIDN'T want to get a 3* that I wouldn't have room for... lol. I hoarded them until I could buy the next multi-pack of roster spots, then I would open them all. I've had to sell Beast, DocOck, Doom, Daredevil, Loki, She-Hulk, Hulk, BP, and Steve Rogers because I drew them before my roster was ready to handle them... wish I could have them back now.

    Curse you expiring covers!!

Nah, that's not what they said. They said, when a specific 3* cover isn't guaranteed in a pack, people buy more of them. They're looking at the bottom line, not caring about what people say they want.

At the beginning of the transition it's a hard choice to decide whether or not to open tokens. Do you try to pull a cover that might help out your formation, or do you save them all so that you don't throw away covers that you might need later?

I wish I had waited more. The 3* characters don't really do much until you have your 2* all maxed, and you have at least 5 covers in a 3*.

At this point in my transition, I'm just playing for the tokens. I generally don't have time to fight for a 3* cover with a weaker roster, but occasionally get lucky in token pulls. 3 matches to a standard token for each lightning round isn't too bad.
  • I was afraid I'd be the lone dissenter but as I'm looking at this thread it feels as if there are some people in this thread that have at least a modicum of luck. I have traditionally had pretty bad luck when it comes to Heroic 10-packs. I've yielded exactly zero golds in the last two packs that I've had the "misfortune" of opening. However, I have periodically been getting golds in both Heroics and standards that I've earned along the way. Last week alone, I pulled three Sentry covers. I know he's not what he used to be, but gold is gold, whatever.

Today I pulled a 4Thor yellowflag.png and a Mohawk Storm blackflag.png. The chips will fall where they may. It's all random and there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. I'm a transition guy myself so I open every single thing I get in hopes that it will augment the threes I have that are close to cover maxed.

Something that might help - at least it does for me. Open tokens only once a day, and have some sort of ritual/procedure about it. For me, it's a minor thing to look forward to every day. After dinner, when I have a few quiet minutes to myself, I allow myself to open the following:
First: Standard tokens, stopping when I get a two star or higher. No more than ten opened on any day, so even if I draw 10 and haven't received a two-star or greater I stop for the day.
Second: I open one event token, of the type I have the most of.
    Finally: One heroic token.

It's orderly, precise, and since I expect it to be nothing more than 1,500 ISO, I don't get too disappointed if nothing but silver pops out. If it does land gold, hey, nice surprise! Even if it's not a gold cover I can use, I try to think of it as "Hey, I opened this token expecting a nickel to fall out - instead I got a dime! not bad!)

If we're being conservative, you should probably be able to pull about 6 or 7 star.pngstar.pngstar.png 's from that jumble you've got there. Why don't you go ahead and crack 'em?

Did you give him 0 from his 10-pack on purpose? Going by the odds most people use it's closer to 9 expected 3*, but I can get on board with 6-7 as a conservative estimate.

    Man, my mind blipped entirely.

I didn't even register the missing pack lol
  • Finally pulled a gold token.....but it's Daredevil redflag.pngicon_cry.gif
  • The fact that we all have rituals and superstitions to increase our odds at a 3* after busting our **** for 10, 20, 30, 40+ hours for a single event token SPEAKS VOLUMES. icon_e_sad.gif

lol, yeah, when I open tokens, I tend to say, "Nice RNG, nice RNG!"
