I'd love to know the chances of this happening...
In Hotshot I was sitting at rank #1 with 1056 and a guy below me only 9 pts away. Now this is in the last 10 minutes so I figure he'll probably queue up a match and finish it in the last 2 minutes and surpass my score. I'd been watching the top 10 like a hawk for about an hour just getting a feel for how everyone below me played.
Several people had been trying to do hops and failing miserably. I watched 2 guys sacrifice top 5 placement. With this much movement I could guess the guy below me would make a push in the last 2 minutes so I did it as well. It took me exactly 2 minutes to finish that match. Once I got back to the nodes it prompted me with a "You were attacked screen for 35 pts..." and back me out to the events page because Hot Shot was over. My points were counted and I lost 1st place.
So this guy had me queued up and waited until exactly the 2 minute marker just like I did and attacked me in less than 2 minutes? I won't even talk about my roster vs his because honestly he didn't stand a chance. Daken was his best character followed up by a shy steve rogers. His torch was on loaner status. Anyone else on his roster couldn't have even competed against my team. Keep in mind that's a slow **** team He was pitted against a covered thoress and XF and my torch is around 212.
When stuff like this happens it makes me think the game is rigging generic battle data and relaying it off to the users without anyone ever knowing. To me it looks like someone attacked me and lost. To him it looks like I attacked him and lost so who would be the wiser? Also I have screenshots of me queuing up 2 players in the top 10 of my bracket WHILE they were shielded... I know they were because like I said I've been watching the top 10 I'm telling you something about PvP just went south. I'll upload pictures from my phone in just a minute.

Huios who is shielded...
And Flash who is also shielded...
Board showing they are shielded.

i'm a bit confused what exactly youa re asking BUT i'll point one thing out. Your phone/PC doesn't receive data INCLUDING who is shielded AND exactly what point you are hit in real time. Instead stuff gets queued then sent in little bursts. So he may have unshielded to attack you somewhat earlier than 2 minutes to go. Hard to say.
OFC he could have cheated and used a one hit kill hack too....0 -
I have experienced this before.
I broke shield at the 2-3 min mark. Got my win. And at the 1 min mark, I got hit.
My explanation is that the guy has queued me much, much earlier. And he probably attacked me at the 5 to 6 min mark. So while I win in a very short time, he was already attacking me.0 -
The last minute is the best time to rack up some more points because you will probably not need to shield afterwards.
On the other hand, that means a lot of attacks happen at the very end of the event, so the risk of losing points is a lot bigger then too.
It's fairly simple.0 -
The last two times I've tried this this I've lost more than I've earned and I also lost a couple covers over it. People are probably saving high point retaliations for the end. That person could have started their match at the 10 min mark for all you know.
Lesson learned. I don't unshield in the last 5 min anymore.0 -
Also, you are assuming that he started with 2 minutes remaining. He may have started with 5 minutes, have a super slow and gruelling game and by pure chance win with literally only a few seconds in the clock.
(Though admittedly it's hard to believe that someone without a maxed Torch + two maxed 4*s made top 1)0 -

Exactly, I have learnt the hard way too.
If I really want to consolidate my position, I will be shield hopping much earlier, as early as the 1 hr mark. Because there is really too much room for error.0 -

Even if it happened prior to me unshielding shouldn't the data reflect that I was shielded at the moment he attacked me?0 -

Nothing can explain the fact that I have screenshots of top 10 players in my bracket being queued by me who were shielded for the last hour at least.0 -
There is a couple of things that can make this happen, first
1: when someone starts an attack doesn't matter it it's the timestamp when the win is registered that matters. This is also why you can get attacked just after you have shielded from your point of view but seconds ago from the servers point of view.
2: you can't trust when someone is shielded in the list, there is a lag. I've actually queued someone up and then been hitting refresh by going between my rankings and top ranking top see when they show up unshielded. Took almost a minute that time.
3: I suspect the server pulls more then one player every time you refresh a node. I.e. Someone can be in your Que that it's now shielded. You can see this sometimes when you skip until the noise actually disappears if you have a shaky connection.
Before the shield change I sometimes saved #2 for that last minute attack if it was really close, that way I knew the net points would be in my favor if he attacked my and both landed a win it before the PvP ended. Not much room fort that now0 -

I guess that clears up quite a bit. I appreciate the info.0 -
The last 2 times I tried to score a few extra points in the last 3 minutes I've ended up dropping out of the top 5 as a result (once by a single point). I don't mind because it's risk vs reward, and I've only got myself to blame. There's definitely a slight delay from someone unshielding to them appearing as unsheided in your leaderboard though.0

I would guess it detects if your shielded at the end of the fight and not the beginning. In the old days when you got pounded for 2 or 3 minutes after a shield hop none of these attacks would have bounced of your shields if the check was the start of the fight.0 -

Still would be nice to get some reinforced feedback saying yes it only matters if you were shielded when the fight is over. Regardless I'm just shocked that I was the target of this one guys last ditch effort snipe on me. The odds are just uncanny considering I hadn't been attacked once in such a long time. The idea of someone sitting at their pvp screen like "This is guy I'm gonna nail at the very last second" is just I guess creepy would be the word lol0 -

Also, consider this: many players save their boosts for those late in the game matches. Which means that you will take more losses, and faster, than you did earlier in the Event as players pull out every weapon they have to guarantee a win. In the last 30 min of an Event, my defensive wins stop coming in. With full boosts, a smart player could definately beat your team.0 -

I've been attacked for 38 points at the very last minute after being shielded for over 3 hours - fortunately I was still shielded and didn't unshield. With the shield nerf I sometimes spend hundreds of ISO just cycling through people until I find one with massive points (while I'm still shielded) and then I'll hit them hours later when I unshield. That also usually means less retal, because the person's usually shielded at the time as well and I just caught them mid-hop. I assume that's why I sometimes get attacked in the middle of an 8 hour shield. It only matters that you showed up at SOME point and someone queued you up.
He didn't necessarily target you - possibly thought you'd remain shielded and he could hop over you for 1st.0 -
In addition to the shield/unshielding timing considerations that zeeke brought up, team-up boosts with a Deadpool Whales! Whales! Whales! TU may also accelerate the game and cause large enough damage for someone with an underdeveloped roster.
GuntherBlobel beat me to it.0 -
As others have explained, the shield check is end of fight (but queuing is based on when you were previously unshielded), but Im curious about something:3uphoria wrote:In Hotshot I was sitting at rank #1 with 1056 and a guy below me only 9 pts away.3uphoria wrote:"You were attacked screen for 35 pts..."
Based on that, it was NOT the guy just below you as it takes a healthy difference between scores to account for the loss being 35 points (iirc 25 is essentially even, and the value changes about 2 points for every 25 point difference, so he would have had to be ~125 points below you, so not someone in your bracket based on that board shot). Did you check who it was?0
