  • I solved the problem of the 4* transition by quitting this game, it seems like a popular solution so far lol.
And that was after getting all covers for XF so my roster was string, but it seems like all they want to people buying all 4* covers.
Without a strong 4* roster you cant really progress to 4*.

If they put the 3 star covers at, say, 500 or 600 points, that would essentially flood the game with covers. Meaning actually acquiring those characters would mean almost nothing because everyone else has those characters as well.

The simple fact of the matter: The additional covers from progression rewards need to be difficult, but possible, to obtain.

There is no pride in getting something you didn't work for.

The main problem for me, is that there are only a few characters that help you progress. Unless progression/event rewards, are those characters, you are not progressing by playing.

Let's name the characters that actually help you progress: 3*Thor, BP, let's just assume patch and hulk too. Out of the Twenty 3*s out currently, only patch and hulk are in rotation. Meaning only 1/10 of the events are worth playing. In a month, only 3 days are worth playing to progress. Patch and Hulk heroic token odds are a combined 1.4%, which means if you get a heroic a day, you get about 1 useful cover in 2 months.

As more 3*s are added, less and less days are worth playing. The useful covers become less and less accessible, increasing competition for them at pvp events.
There needs to be a counterbalance to these increases in difficulty, just to keep the game the way it was. One way to compensate for is increasing the places, where covers are handed out.
Let's just say people get 1 or 2 or even 3 more useful covers a month. If people are losing their sense of earning their covers, it is only negligible.

D3 really needs to make the other characters relevant, just to make progression an every day thing, not just a 3 days/month. I think the patch and hulk combo is one answer, alone, they don't do much, but together, they let you compete.

There needs to be more synergistic combos, or add a powerup feature, like using squirrel girl will be powered up by 30 levels, when used with deadpool (and a list of 5 others). Buffs and nerfs can just be power up levels instead of taking months to rework their skills for balance. Synergistic power ups levels can change by the week, if d3 was so inclined to encourage roster diversity. Take away levels from combos too many people use, add levels to combos people don't use.

That's...a really interesting idea! Give people incentive to play Mystique and Mags together for a Brotherhood bonus, or a bonus for playing a team of X-Men (and not just in the Children of the Atom event). Force people to think outside of the box. I like it.

I'm not sure what game you are playing, but there are a lot more good 3*'s than that for transitioning that I see all the time at 600-700+ such as Daken, Blade, L Cap, Deadpool, C Mags, Hood, and Loki. There are others that these same people probably have and could also use to do well such as Punisher and Psylocke. There are also new characters that may start showing up when they have been around long enough to get enough covers to use them such as Cage, Grocket, and Gamora, and believe it or not it looks like Squirrel Girl may be a quasi-Sentry in the making.

That leaves as not seen at the high end of PVP (but still somewhat useful in PVE to win covers that way) Doom (which may change as more people get covers and level him), Mystique (who is still somewhat new), GSBW, Marvel, DD, Falcon, Shulkie, Storm, HT, Beast (who is helping no one unless he gets buffed), Colussus (who I actually think is not bad for PVP, but lots of better choices), Doc Ock (see Beast), Spidey (who some people use in PVP), IM40, Rags, and sentry.

That means 11 currently being used in high end of PVP, possibly 4 more in near future, and 16 that are better suited to PVE or Beast. Of the 16 not in high end use, they'll be buffed as the featured character in approximately 50% of the PVP's so there's still PVP value there. Also, many of them can be support characters of the 11 main ones being used.

Those are cannon fodder by themselves and require a bulkier companion like XF/4Thor/LThor etc. Not the type of heroes you want to base your 2-3* transition on.

Ditto. I keep checking the forums every few days though, just to see if the game has gotten less idiotic.

The cost of covers is insane, $260 to get a single unleveled 4* character. I might consider purchasing a single cover, except for the fact that every time I have put a ton of effort into building a character, they have been nerfed to oblivion (Sipdey, CMags, Sentry). If I spent a ton of money on a character only to have D3 make them worthless, I would flip out.
