I'm just honestly sad because this game has no endgame anymore. Every game needs an endgame. Don't tell me anybody would play MMOs without the shiny epix lootz at the end of a raid/dungeon just because they like the game, I don't buy it for a second. Rag was the equivalent of that loot for MPQ.
Why should I keep playing Thor/Wolv/OBW if I cannot improve it in any way. I seriously think this may be the best combo in the game now.

Well, with both IW and XWolv on the block for balance changes in the near future, 4*s might actually become that end game you are looking for.

    Just read that.

Yeah this is my issue. Without powers this game is bejeweled. Even candy crush has super chocolate balls and stuff to make it somewhat entertaining. What this game had going for it is that you got to use powers... a lot. Yes it was the fastest way to win, but it was also fun. Now maybe spaming rags red over and over was boring and cheap. A modest change could have fixed that. Reduce the damage output drastically OR reduce the tile creation to 3 OR raise the ap cost to 4 or even 5. Any of those would have fixed the character while still making him something to aim for and a good addition to the team. Nope. They did all 3 and then some! I didn't have a maxed rag. Mine was barely becoming useable. But I was looking forward to the day he would be. Even though I knew he would be nerfed, I never though it would be this bad. It honestly took the wind right out of my sails in this game. So much so that I don't even really have the desire to play this new Ares or Hulk event. It comes down to a lot of us were on the fence about continuing much longer and this whole rag thing was done so horribly that its given us the push we need. I'm not saying I'll never play again, but at this point I don't know what I'm playing for. Maxing out the last few charaters I need seems pointless. If the goal is eventually to have all Characters created equal and balanced, why do I need to progress beyond my current team? If my current covers are eventually going to be just as good as any other, what's the point? The number of stars apparently means nothing more than the difficulty level of collecting those covers. I'm not a collector. I wanted these 3 star characters because they were better than what I currently have, but it looks like they are trying hard to change that aspect of the game. In nerfing Rags/Mags/Spidey it takes a lot of the motivation out of the game for me. In making powers take a long time to build up, this game becomes more about matching tiles than super heroes. I'm not completely out yet, but the game got a lot less fun.

This. I will admit that with work and kids I have a short attention span.. I loved the collectible part and strategy but if they keep nerfing it into a match3 only game...well I got burned out on candy crush in 4 months and stopped at lvl 421. I just played a little of the Ares during lunch and having to adjust to taking damage from lvl 235 hammer guys is not a welcomed change. Will see how it goes but It probably is better for me that I will be playing less..at least my wife will be happy icon_e_smile.gif

Yeah I recall reading something somewhere a long time ago that said the intention was always to encourage people to build up and move past the stars. So your one stars get replaced by twos...twos by threes, etc. Thus, the four star guys should indeed be end-game power. In theory. Still need enough 4 star characters to make a viable group build of some kind, but that'll come in time.

And secondly, because we can see the writing on the wall. If Ragnarok is now "balanced" then contemplate what that means for every other character. It means that the ones that are fun to play are going to get trashed. The ones that suck? That aren't any fun to play because their powers are so expensive, or have so many drawbacks, or just don't do much? That's the new normal. Or it will be once they finish with the changes.

If you thought Rags was fun to play, then I don't know what to say to you. There are plenty of games where you can press buttons and kill things really fast without thinking; this is a puzzle game. Abilities that you can spam for huge damage defeat the puzzle aspect of the game and reduce the amount of foresight needed to win. Even if it's fun for you to play that way, it isn't what the game is supposed to be about, and I for one would love it if AP costs were increased across the board to make the game more slow-paced, and make abilities more situational or require planning to use. Everything you're saying sounds great to me.

Have you considered that the 4*s may become good, rather than everything else becoming rubbish? Thats my personal Hope. We'll see the 4*s move to be closer to where the top tier is, and the top tier reduced (though hopefully not as much as Rag) to make room for them to be awesome but not game breaking.

Except this isn't a puzzle game. 'Puzzle Quest' is a misnomer. At heart it's a basic match 3 game mostly dictated by luck, not foresight, with some additional 'powers' that make it more fun. Anyone can beat the AI unless it gets a huge cascade, but now it just takes longer and typically leads to you taking more damage.

Well, that depends whether you consider Bejeweled a puzzle game or not. Regardless, I have played every PQ game, and this one is very different. There's a lot more focus on overpowered, spammable damage abilities rather than matching and manipulating the field. The Rags nerf and other forthcoming nerfs will bring the game more in line with the rest of the series. Whether that's going to be a popular change or not, I don't know, but there are certainly people who like it. The people who come to these forums are more invested in the game and like it the way it is, so you're not getting an unbiased sample of opinions here.

Maybe so, but coming up unique teams is still more strategy than Thunderclap spam. The Cookie Clicker game has more strategy than Thunderclap spam.

Problem is there ARENT that many interesting combos in this game, especially compared to the original PQ. I hope you're enjoying Wolv/OBW cuz that's the next to get the axe. There really isn't much synergy with characters other than Rag/GSW (nerfed), venom/spidey (nerfed), and Wolv/whatever (soon to be nerfed).

Entirely subjective. You can claim Loki is interesting and you wouldn't be wrong.

I didn't say that. Rags wasn't particularly fun to play. He was mindless spam.

But based on the extent they nerfed him, the only way to balance the majority of the characters in the game is to nerf them and nerf them hard. Thor's red? 10 AP, 600 damage, 5 tiles generated. Yellow? 20 AP, 1200 damage, 5 tiles. Those would make Thor in line with Ragnarok. Wolverine? 6 AP for Feral Claws, 1 tile for every 10 red. Yellow heal cut in half. Spidey? 5 AP stun, 20 AP heal (or maybe only 15 AP, but half the amount). Mags? Red goes up to 5 AP minimum (meh), Blue is 8-10 AP, but stronger defense tiles. IM35 needs his red damage reduced 20-30%. Same for Juggernaut. C Storm's blue damage cut in half. Oh, and M Hawkeye? That's not a buff coming... he does too much damage in this new world.

Enjoy then. Because you're going to have that -- and by "situational" it means "should I use a power or make a match4 that will do more damage?". Personally, I rather like super powers that are... you know... super and not just animations to slow down the game further.

It is. I thought Loki's 2nd version of Illusions was pretty interesting actually. I don't find Thunderclap->Sniper to be interesting, quite rudimentary actually.

The point of these balance changes imo is so interesting combos are also viable without the feeling that you're gimping yourself. And I think that **** feeling is what Rags users are feeling being so used to that style. Its not that other characters are uninteresting, but they just suck relative to pre-nerf Thunderclap.

3 characters have buffs planned. I don't doubt there'll be more.

The fact that they plan on raising AP costs across the board means every character will suck like captain america, that is my biggest fear and the #1 reason i'm bailing. I don't want 10 minute "strategic" matches.
  • They're just introducing a 5 AP minimum, which only affects 4 characters iirc.
  • They're just introducing a 5 AP minimum, which only affects 4 characters iirc.

That's the new baseline, it doesn't mean that's all thats changed. Look at the list of characters getting the nerf bat. Thor is on there and he doesn't have a <5 AP skill.
