No motivation to play the game anymore :'(

In the aftermath of the Rag nerf, even if I did not own one or ever spent a dime on him, I find myself utterly demotivated to play the game.
Rag to me was the prize at the end of the road, the pot at the end of the rainbow, the ultimate goal, the sole reason to steadily grind my way up through countless lightning rounds and tournaments alike.
Every game needs something like that. He was not the hero we deserved, but the hero we needed! (OMG a Batman quote in a Marvel game, this is madness!!! icon_lol.gif ).
Yeah he needed a little tweak, but he was not as OP as people made him to be. The only reason he looked so OP is the asinine buff villains get in LRs, which many players have argued should vastly be reduced anyway.
3AP thunderclap and 80/100% buff in LR would have been damn fine. But this amateur dev team vastly overdid it and now he's trash.
Now I feel no motivation to play the game anymore. Anybody else feels the same?
Why should I do it? What's the ultimate goal now?
Magneto? Yeah he's ok, but not so cool. BWGS? Useless now. Spidey? He's probably the next in line, plus I want to lay devastation to the other team, not shield and heal, that's boring icon_cry.gif
I loved this game so much... now not so much icon_cry.gif

  • i'm not really sure what to put iso into anymore. i had the goal of a im40 / rag / bwg team, and had maxed out im40 and rag ... was 30 levels away on bwg. now the team sucks. it takes forever for bwg to snipe and against heavier teams i was actually counting on ragnarok's red damage to lower their hp to the point 1 snipe would do it. now it actually requires 2 snipes which takes foreverrrrrrr to the point of it being a really stupid strategy. ironman does nothing. he's there for the +9 red / +6 green which doesn't seem to help much.

its pretty discouraging to have spent weeks trying to build up this team and now it's just awful. i don't even have a backup team i'm interested in. magneto ironman hood? pretty sure that'll get nerfed anyway and i would rather have a 5/5/2 ironman instead.
  • You are right. There are plenty of games for smartphones. I'm playing since October and i feel like... robbed and cheated. I just dont want to level any character because they want me to. I'm not trying to encourage you to do this but, i deleted the game.
  • What are decent alternatives right now? I'm an iOS user.
  • I feel for you! I just recently dedicated a lot of time getting Ragnarok, and I agree with you. If it weren't for the absolutely rediculous 300% buff, people wouldn't complain about Ragnarok. What's really depressing for me, is that I've felt like a victim the entire time. Loki, my first 3 star character, nerfed because the programmers didn't realize changing 20 tiles to one color wasn't a smart idea. What really, really, really hurt me, was when I spent time and money leveling c. Storm, only to have her nerfed THE DAY I got her to lvl 85. Now. Rag hit 90 today, and I won't play with him anymore, because Thor seems much more efficient. I understand that they don't want OP characters, but I wish they would communicate with us better. A guy spent $100 earlier, just for Ragnarok. 15000 hp for a red rag from packs, and 5000 to max his red cover. 4 hours later, Rag was nerfed. Had this happened to me, I might consider putting my technical skills to use, and attempt to show these devs just how much damage a single angry techie can do. But, I am a somewhat forgivable person, and that would be illegal.
  • I play a lot of F2P-type games. I keep a few folders where if a game starts to suck or get stale, I just throw it in a folder and check in on it every time they update.

Unfortunately, it's kind of the nature of these types of games. You either run out of content or the game becomes too much of a grind with little reward in return.

To me, it's the biggest drawback of these kinds of games. Instead of getting some kind of resolution or feeling of finality of 'beating the game' in a traditional sense, you are left with this bad feeling of apathy or disappointment of how things turned out.
  • I agree with this thread.

Rags was the end goal. I worked hard to get him and achieved him.

Now that he's worthless, I don't know quite what to do. What the heck do I put my HP and iso into? Mags? He'll be nerfed eventually, for sure.

This is what gets me about the nerf, not that it actually happened. What is the goal now? Rags wasnt the end game (maxed Rag/C.Mag/BWGS/Spidey) but he definitely was the key. Now we arent even sure we have the lock. Rags is nuked into sell territory, C.Mag and Spidey are very likely to get nerfed there as well and a by product is that BWGS is much less effective. Does that mean Thor/Wolvie are the end game? ****, I had that a couple weeks in: no point to keep playing.
  • Imo you were playing for the wrong reasons in the first place and you're better off not playing. Play because the game is fun and enjoyable for you. Don't monotonously grind because there's a shiny prize at the end. Remember, it's a game, not work.

Don't tell other people how they should have their type of fun. If grinding to get the prize IS their fun, then that's their business, not yours.
  • How about finding philoshopher's combo - team, in which Bagman becomes useful? Now that's much harder than getting Rag icon_e_biggrin.gif

But the grinding wasn't fun for him, otherwise this thread would not exist. I'm not telling him how to have fun, just saying that it prolly wasn't this game and he should go play another one that he does find fun.

I don't quite understand that sentiment. If Rag was the end goal, wouldn't you have lost interest anyway when you maxed him?

I understand that it's annoying to have one of your major characters nerfed, but I doubt that is the main reason for you losing interest.

What I do agree with, though, is that the game needs a mechanism to respec so that players can reassign points of needed (even if it comes at a cost)

While I do feel Rags changes were heavy-handed, I also don't completely understand all "I'm going to quit over this" mentality. EVERY decent multiplayer game does this. The "flavor of the month" stays dominant until it has acheived the notoriety to draw the developer's attention, then the character/skill/build gets nerfed. It happened in the Diablo series; it happened in WoW (sorry, I was a Blizzard junkie in the past). Are we all to believe that Rags was going to be king of the hill for the life of this game? I would argue anyone that did was fooling themself.

No, Rags was not rebalanced well. Yes, I do believe the developers should have given heads up as this is potentially a P2W game for some, and that this may be grounds for a legitimate grievance. BUT, we all should have seen this coming, and should know for the future that this WILL happen again for anyone who stays king of the hill for too long. This isn't a new phenomenon. I'm not going to tell people how to spend their money, but this is one of the reasons why I don't pay for games aside from a reasonable initial purchase price.

    EDIT: Grammar
  • This isn't a new phenomenon. I'm not going to tell people how to spend their money, but this is one of the reasons why I don't pay for games aside from a reasonable initial purchase price.

This should be the real takeaway for people. When I started playing this game, I put a good chunk of money into it. Then I realized that, regardless of intentions, the goals and actions of D3 did not match what I wanted to support financially. So I haven't spent a dime since, going F2P all the way. If you spent money on Rags and now feel like you've been bait and switched, vote with your wallet.
  • I'm not mad, I'm not gonna quit, and as I said I have one single cover of Rag and never spent a dime on him.
I'm just honestly sad because this game has no endgame anymore. Every game needs an endgame. Don't tell me anybody would play MMOs without the shiny epix lootz at the end of a raid/dungeon just because they like the game, I don't buy it for a second. Rag was the equivalent of that loot for MPQ.
Why should I keep playing Thor/Wolv/OBW if I cannot improve it in any way. I seriously think this may be the best combo in the game now.
  • Changes will come to those heroes. Prior this the changes they had were all improvements on individuals gameplay experience. Changing how the leveling system worked? That was amazing. Removing the ear shattering noises were good too. This recent one especially with cases of of large sums of money being spent on a skill which then was switched only a few hours later was a bad bad change.
  • While I do feel Rags changes were heavy-handed, I also don't completely understand all "I'm going to quit over this" mentality.

Because, first and foremost, the developers have stopped talking to the player base in any useful manner. That Demiurge_Al posted the forthcoming change list is an amazing improvement, but it's simply not enough. There needs to be actual engagement instead of merely passing down stone tablets from the mountain top.

And secondly, because we can see the writing on the wall. If Ragnarok is now "balanced" then contemplate what that means for every other character. It means that the ones that are fun to play are going to get trashed. The ones that suck? That aren't any fun to play because their powers are so expensive, or have so many drawbacks, or just don't do much? That's the new normal. Or it will be once they finish with the changes.

I liked playing the game. I also liked winning prizes. It's hardly surprising -- it's basic human psychology. But the really fun part of playing the game was using powers that had an actual effect in the result of the game -- and based on the changes to Ragnarok (and C Storm and Loki and how the new Hulk and Punisher characters were designed, frankly) that's going away for the most part.

If the Ragnarok nerf had been reasonable -- even to 4 AP for 25-50% more damage (i.e. -- lowering the overall damage output AND effectively reducing the green tiles) then that would've been one thing. But this? Nope. If this is how the devs want to communicate, then so be it. What they've communicated, however, is that they're not interested in making the game I'm interested in playing. And certainly not one that I'd be willing to put money into when they are clearly willing to be so heavy handed with game changes instead of doing incremental changes, all while ignoring their customers.

Well, with both IW and XWolv on the block for balance changes in the near future, 4*s might actually become that end game you are looking for.
  • Well...we had one thread where the demiurge_al responded to a compliment thread to their actions....

so at least someone from the company is lurking.

    This. So true.
