  • I'm just slowly losing any interest in PVP. Blade's cool, but is he cool enough that I fight for his covers? Nah.

Is this the death of interest in MPQ? Does it start with PVP, move to PVE, and then finally, you just pick up your phone, look at it, and shake your head, muttering "Nah, not today."

Quite frankly, I'm suprised that so many people burn out on pvp first (you're not the only one I've heard it from recently).

PvP is much less of a time sink, and if anything is going to burn you out, it's neurotically checking the game every 2 and a half hour, without sleep

I think it's because in PVE you never come out of a match having lost points, or wake up in the morning finding you've had most of the previous day's progress wiped out. PVE can be tedious, but it doesn't have the complete pointlessness that PVP tends to have.

Yes. This. PVP is so demoralizing for the twin reasons of being scaled out of playing and losing all your points. I know from reading the forum that conceptually you can get scaled out of participating in PVE, and I know from experience that I do sometimes get scaled out of beating certain nodes in PVE, but even when that is true, I can still play and beat most of the easy PVE nodes and gain points and progression rewards that way.

At a certain point in PVP I hit a wall of foes that I cannot beat at all, and even when I try to get in there and chance it with boosts, I come out of the battle win or lose to another loss or two from other 166/270 teams, losing me more points than I could have gained. It is frustrating once I hit a certain point level, and the point level where I hit the unbeatable wall gets lower and lower, it seems. I think anyone who states that PVP is less of a time sink is defining that term differently or is simply experienced enough to have max level teams or uses shields more frequently than I would. Gaining the same points and losing them and re-gaining them over and over again seems more like a time sink to me, then progressing in PVE, where at least you have the progression rewards and your growing points to show for your work.

    Cheers!

In PVP playing the actual matches are only half the game. You can stick to just that if you're shooting for top 100. But if you want to compete at a high level you need to play the other half if the game--the meta game. Manage your HP. Think about your defensive team. When do you shield? How best to shield hop? Etc.

To do well in PVE all you need to do is grind the nodes every 2h24m. No real skill outside of the actual matches and no meta game to speak of unless you count trying to jump into a fresh bracket.
  • What's up with these goofy end times? No midnight or 6:00pm ish? Or 9 AM? It's like they picked every hour when people are at work or sleeping.

It's a lot easier to tell when you're actually losing progress in pvp though, whereas the only time you can be sure of your actual placement in pve is watching the scores at the end of each sub.

I mean, in just a single day you have 10, 2 hour 24 minute refreshes right? Let's be generous and say that you blitz through the nodes with your A team, averaging 20 minutes a clear (most of my more relaxed runs ended up being about 30 minutes, but it's largely academic since you're not letting the counters ever actually reach 0).

10x20= 200 minutes, 3.333 hours a day. Are you spending 3 hours A Day on pvp? I'm pretty sure most pvps I don't even spend that much time over the whole event

I've got a 9:30 pm end time - for some of us this event has fantastic options.

In case anyone wants to know, slice one has some top players in it. I don't know if it is the main death bracket or people trying to spread out for placement but top 5 is over 1k with alot of other big names in there.

    Hope it helps

It's not solely targeting lower level players, it's just that they have to fight someone to get higher. Pretty sure they'd rather fight 50 pt battles all the way to 2000, but the earlier you are in an event, there isn't enough separation for their to be high value targets. Since you beat them (you should've waited til later when their score was higher, so the value of the fight would be worth more), you did win out as well. You probably netted more points than they did (amount of points gained - amount of points lost). Pretty sure the lower level 1* and 2* teams you beat to get to your scores say the same about you.

I'm not complaining about people, I'm complaining about sick game system that puts 2-3-4 times weaker teams to be beaten by teams like that one. It's like a mugger going to a kindergarten to beat out mobile phones and money from 5 year old kids because no one else is around. That's exaggerated illustration of course.. but...

That time it was more than 48 hours till end, so I didn't care about points. Except that one I got numerous attacks by 166/249/270 teams and still getting them having now just 360 points. It's like weaker players earn points just to "give" them to someone stronger. We have a lot of this tinykitty in real life, why we have to face this every time in game? Why competition can't be more sporting? They run, swim, jump, beat one another into a pulp, but if they loose it's because they were weaker, slower, less fortunate, ate less steroids, whatever but not because someone "stole" their points last minutes of the tournament.

The point was to show (check, prove...) that common star.pngstar.png can beat tinykitty out of the strongest and tankiest characters in the game having 27400 life between them and potential damage to wipe out the Hulk with one blow. icon_twisted.gif For people having those characters not to feel so proud and unpunished. icon_twisted.gif

About points. I had 300 that time, and most of them (~200) I earned beating seed teams (a bit unusual though). After 200 were 2* teams, a bit underleveled 2* teams and underleveled 3*. So, it's quite fair competition. I haven't seen any 1* teams.. except only one maxed juggs once a few events. I skip too weak teams. But I know that I skip them, other 10 won't...
In LRs I attack almost only seed teams and after I cross 100 (5-8 fights) I get smashed by 166/249s to finish top100000. Sometimes it's hard to even cross 100, because of attacks while I try to reach that score.
It's just not "treat people like you want to be treated" kind of game... icon_e_confused.gif
  • Ugh, I'm in slice 1, and haven't checked my bracket today. I went to sleep unshielded at 500. I figured I'd get hit, so long as I don't get smothered, I can make all that up tonight. The 10pm end time is beautiful for me. It means I can play to the end AND get a decent night's sleep (waiting another day before I start PVE grind-fest).

    God I hate PVP.

You summoned me, Mr. Grimm? icon_e_smile.gificon_lol.gificon_question.gif

Anyway, you can do what I do & snipe at the end of one of the end times.
(IHatePVP recommends while realizing sniping the event with 2 Betsys in the roster is a silly idea.)

    It's still a good idea anyway.... icon_cool.gif
  • Holy Death Brackets Batman!

Top 10 starts at 1200 for me? Yeah, I'll aim for top 50 and pray. As much as I want Blade covers, I'm not getting my hopes up for anything past that.

Currently sitting at 5th with 802 points in my bracket - which ends in just under 8 hours (8 pm AEDT).
I, uh, I didn't really look at rewards when I picked my slice. I just knew that I'd have some fun since I've got a maxed Psylocke and she's great when boosted.
So last night I realised that there were Blade and Thor covers up for grabs and I was surprised the lead wasn't further ahead. I've crept up into top 10 on my B team alone. With a positive end time, I feel like I can hold onto top 10, maybe even top 5 if I'm fortunate. I can't do much with a single Thor cover right now, so I'm really just interested in those Blade covers.

It's been said before but I'll say it again. This phenomenon is exacerbated by (and I'd argue almost purely stems from) ... Wait for it ... True healing. As one of the 3* baddies, I actually feel bad about hitting those maxed 2* teams that show up in my queue as i climb late in a tourney. I'd much rather hit 3* teams (hopefully for the same points), but the game heavily incentivizes me not to. Neither match is particularly difficult or at least I'm not at risk of losing either one really, but I can beat that 2* much quicker, taking less damage, which means I can sustain my push longer before needing to use health packs. D3 needs to give us a reason to skip these matches as opposed to the exact opposite, which is happening right now.

Slice #2 here, ends in 6h 11m. Top 10 is 1293 - 907. So although there may be some death brackets out there, I think with Blade covers and Thor covers at stake, there may be a lot more of the 166ers spread out amongst the slices for easier placement. Normally around 700 is good enough for Top 25 for me (or maybe just because old covers that are useless to the 166ers have been the rewards the past few PVPs), but I think I'm gonna settle for Top 100, since Top 25 will likely be out of my reach.

Third place with 1094, one of my better finishes. It'll still be a while before my Blade is useful (he's at 2/1/3 now), but at least I'm making progress.

In slice three, my bracket is 1254 - 778 for top 10 with six hours to go. I'll put a final sample for the slice up when it is over.
  • the problem is not how high marks they get but all rewards dominated by 166ers
