  • They probaly should give a limit on shielding. Say up to 20 loses without losing points, then remove shield , make it like the IW force bubble crush.

Polarity got me before I put my shield up. I had enough to get X-Force Red Wolverine, like 1510 points

  • I'm (Oversoul IGN) shielded with 1118 points. Go nuts.
  • Hi There,

Not sure about others but I was only shielding toget the point rewards. I dont particularly care for invisible woman and already have a 5/5/3 spiderman.

However I did want to get the red X-Force Wolvie, I know he isnt the best but I stilk wanted it and well have it now.

I have been un-shielded since obtaining and already dropped from 2nd to 6th losing some 280 points.

Go forth people and find me, attack me gain lots of points from me and get your spidey covers! icon_e_smile.gif

So... all the people whining about the new system, what are they thinking of people hitting the 1000 point scores again? You don't even have to grind ten points here, five points there - I have been finding 20 and 30 point matches for fun today, even in the 1000s.
Obviously the system is working out very well for some people. I just can't figure out how to be one of them. Top ranked in my bracket is 1417, good for him. #2 is 839. Yes, that is higher than it was last week, but it's still lower than it was before their stealth change to rating. Just woke up and played one match and I'm in #10 at 554 right now, though I did hit the 700 progression award at some point. Tried skipping and looking for names on the list yesterday, wasted 20 minutes and didn't see any of them. So what am I and 99.8% of my bracket doing wrong?
  • I guarantee shields will double in price within 2 weeks.

Edit: someone passed me so I took the shield down but I have no intention of doing any more in this tournament so feel free to hit me, at 1400ish right now. I will not retaliate.
  • Whether you can easily grind up depends on how many people in your general MMR range is shielded or not. Every person that is shielded is one less person that can attack you at all which makes it easier for you to get points.

It seems like this has a runaway effect at the top, as people start hitting 1K they're more inclined to shield which makes it easier for everyone around them to hit those guys for points too. So for the lower point guys, there needs to be some kind of coordination, or some guys need to sacrifice for the good of the team.

In this tournament my team is weak so I've no particular incentive to pitch in for the greater cause, though I'll definitely be shielding when my team is relatively strong compare to my peers!

Or maybe the shield times will halve, or worse...

5 minutes for 50hp in a Lightning Round. I could see that.

Ack, I'm sorry! Hopefully you can get the rest of the points in a last minute match.

Edit: Whoops, thought I prevented you from getting a red wolvie, never mind.
  • Looking at this score, one nice thing that came out of this is that the shields pretty much guaranteed nobody can possibly join in the last 30 or even 60 minutes of a tournament and even have a chance at sniping the top places. You are rewarded for playing earlier in the tournament since you can actually build a lead so big that a latecomer doesn't have enough time to catch up even if he never lost a game.

Sure they can. Brackets are formed as they fill up, so they'd be with other people who join in the last few hours

The problem is that they're going to get retaliated and start to lose points. One thing I've noticed in this system is that if you want to score big, you really need a stretch of no retaliations so that you can rack up points and shield once you've hit 1400. Joining in the last hour of a tourney is bad because other people are going to be on, increasing the chances of you getting retaliated and thus never letting you get to high point thresholds.

True (presuming you were speaking generally, not this specific tournament). I decided to give the shield thing a try. Pushed my score up a bit. The 100 HP will be easily recouped from rewards, which I could have easily been knocked out of while asleep.
  • Here's mine. IMO, there's still some benefit to waiting a bit before entering tournaments. There would already be plenty of high point targets by the time you joined, there will be less of a queue of people that can retaliate you, and you get weaker ranking brackets as well. I can still be a vulture instead of being the early bird. Sorry for the huge photo!

Why would they retaliate you, when presumably you wouldn't have that many points?

I agree. My bracket isn't too bad, but there are still a few hours to go:

Ah, I meant retaliated/attacked. I'm currently leading my bracket at 1413 because I was never attacked during my run to that rank, but I would imagine that you would get attacked a fair amount if you were to try to get to that rank during the last hour of a tourney just due to the number of people that are grinding as well.

Literally just ran into you! Thank you for your patronage icon_e_biggrin.gif

Edit: I'm above 1400 now, and now I'm shielded with a scrub team. Have at it. IGN: Oversoul
