1800 to top 5 my bracket

I think I saw someone at over 2k points this event, not sure if he kept it cause I myself managed to beat his sentry—hood—cmarv 166-166-249 in 3 turns with my xforce team so unless he shielded that was —50.
1319 was enough for 6th spot in my bracket but technically its how top 5 is determined to stay top 5.0 -

I've seen top 5 at 1500 and top 10 at 900, it just comes down to those 6 guys all pushing higher and higher to try to make sure they aren't the one on the outside looking in. Now that more and more people have maxed Sentry and Hood, it's not a matter of who CAN put up those scores, it's who is willing to pay the HP (and put in the necessary time) to get the scores needed. While I agree 1800 for top 5 is a little beyond reasonable, I can't really fault them for doing it.
You must have seen my bracket from last night then. Top 6 was 1700 and 7th was only 1300. I sadly admit I finish in the second spot at 1799. But I was already hp commited. To finish outside the Top 5 would have hurt.0 -

Are you sure of this? I know people who stopped playing the game for this reason. And in my case sometimes wonder if it would be better to cheat in the game once so I get sandboxed, and I can start playing in PvP without fear of being attacked or the need of shields, etc.
In fact, what I love the most about Gauntlet is that I am just playing against the game, against myself, and I can forget about all the other players of the game. I would play The Gauntlet only if rewards were good enough, and there where Gauntlet events all the time...0 -
This is why I've started settling for top 25 even when I need the covers. I figure they'll come around again eventually, and I don't enjoy PVP enough to do what needs to be done for top 5.0

The only thing good about the last PVP was that my 600+ that didn't get me top 100 at least got me my 10-pack. Now I can stop playing PVP and hopefully my MMR will go down with a couple of non-placements. I am a transition player and my first nodes in the blade event started with characters over 100. For 40 points but still I don't even get the seed teams anymore?0

i must admit, my previous best score in PvP was 885, and always gets me top 25. Not for blade, I had to un-shield and shoot higher, ended up with 1117 pts. for the first time I actually like the idea of top 10 players having 1600-2000+ pts, because it made every every que I have 49+ pts matches which helped me climb extremely fast. Ending up grabbing C Marvel cover at 1100 was nice0

When your in the 2K+ points you are probably down to single hops, and so are unshielded for about 90 seconds at a time, unless your being very daring or there are a lot of high value targets out. So depending how long they been in you queue before you found them they might well have been safe.
Was a bit surprised my 1450 made it though the final 8 hour shield without dropping from the top 5.Budget Player Cadet wrote:How about smaller brackets?
If you had smaller brackets there is going to be even more variation. Size 200 brackets with only the top 2 getting 3 covers - ouch if you get stuck with a couple of 2k+ scorers. If they made them much smaller I would guess the 4* covers would be dropped from first also as they start giving out too many. (I am surprised the 4* progression is still at 1300 and has not been moved up as average scores increase)Polares wrote:But I agree that joining a braket by time is fair, and I think joining a bracket by MMR or some other metric could be hell, and really unfair.
Joining via MMR would take tanking to a whole new level. I am normally only tanked into the two star range as I am a bit "lazy" and its easy enough to climb 600-700. However if brackets where based on MMR I can assure you I would be in the 1* land when I enter the events.0 -
I felt bad for the 6th place guy in my bracket. He had 1604 vs my 1615. That's gotta hurt to have committed so much and not get it. 7th was down around 1300. Top 10 were all 1200+.0

With new people starting all the time abd the amount of people playing now they need to rework the brackets. Top 10 instead of 5. Top 50 instead if 25 and so on.0
-
Did you get T25? Because that's still two Blade covers and possibly without the expensive shield-hopping. It should have also been easier to get higher Progression awards with all the 50 pt matches available. Maybe you got an extra 50 HP from reaching 800 pts due to all the competition driving up scores. When I saw my top 5 move well above 2000 pts., I bought a 75 HP shield and went to bed early and woke up happy.
Honestly, if new characters didn't bring in the competition, I would be afraid for MPQ's financial health. New characters are how they make money. I worry more about how sustainable that business model is more than I worry about getting an extra cover.0 -

Part of the success of this game is based on the stress you have getting what you want. Less stress means probably less interest in the game.
As it is we have both, Progression and Ranking awards, so I don't see the problem. When scores get inflated for Ranking awards, then Progression awards gets easier to achieve. If scores get crazy for that extra Blade cover then more people get to 1100 pts for that extra Featured Character cover. At the moment, I think it is working out ok.0 -

Remember that post where (insert name) said that they'd scale back their progress for the betterment of MQP?
Remember how the post went green with many people of top alliances agreeing that posting crazy pvp score was completely unnecessary even if it meant their not getting top spot?
Good times...I think that stance lasted about 3 events and quickly ended as Fury progression/placement rewards became a thing.
Joking/frustration aside...top 5 is intended to be for a puny percentage of the player base.
You don't exactly miss out on much by going for top 25.
Next time Blade comes up many of us top players will finish our Blade builds which means the following PvP can open the door for a lot of the others. It sucks that you'll need to wait a few more months but you'll finish him eventually. In the meantime, enjoy the fact that we don't yet have Thor progressions and event rewards every other PvP. Cause that's gonna a complete nightmare regardless of it's a new character or just Loki.0 -
Budget Player Cadet wrote:It's perhaps worth noting that I have a grand total of 3 finished 3*s.
What the tinykitty?
I feel your pain. I've hit 1000 once. 1600 and beyond seems nuts. I was hoping to get a Blade, so I could go back and finish Rd. 2 of the Simulator to get the Daken. No dice. It's been forever since I couldn't manage a top 100 victory after actual effort. The last time I was in a bracket so tough was the first time LazyCap was the reward.0 -

This is really scary. It happened with Fury, and now it will happen with Thor 4*.
I think 4 * should be awarded in different events, not in the regular PvP 3 * events, because when a new 4* is the price a lot of people play just to win these 4 * and they won't care about the 3* awarded afterwards, these 3* will be just more iso, so the players that need these 3 * will be screwed. I think this was already debated when Fury came, but no solution was reached...
PS: And 4 * should not be awarded as an alliance only reward.0 -
Guess I didn't miss much by forgetting about this PvP.
Seeing as I wouldn't have scored anywhere that high reminds me why I quit trying in PvP.
Even though I have only played for a few months, if my sense of progression slows down enough with as much time as I already commit to this game I could easily see myself quitting altogether even though I've already spent real money.0 -
I feel alot better after reading this thread that I got 3rd with 1377. Who knew 1850-1300 would be the soft bracket. I'd be so mad to spend that and 6th, so Yay lucky me!0

It was definately one of my fastest fights ever but there wasn't really a large cascade.
I had some boost on but I was really lucky to get 5 green critical as first move which allowed me kill the hood turn 1 with Xforce and than with my move and casades I did surgical strike+xforce on sentry and 2x Photonic Blasts (the 2nd hitting the max c.marvel). Than put my own cmarvel in front to get 5 red and 3 black for another Photonic Blasts+surgical strike and a Chemical Reaction for a finish. Fight took less than 30 seconds and its actually possible it took only two turns not 3.
The largest cascade I ever saw was made by 3x L40-100 mobs with a yellow gem morale boost that triggered a casade that was enough to do over 30k damage and took about 2 minutes to kill my L166 Psylocke-LThor-Cmags team .0 -

The high scoring totals are due to player behaviours and not due to any change from d3.
I also like to get top 5 consistently, but I can't see any changes that d3 can do to "soften" the bracket, short of screwing the newbie players by placing them into the veteran bracket. (Which many transition players are already complaining about).
If anyone has any fair solutions to both veteran, transition and new players, please share.
Going back to the time based entries instead of this tinykitty sharding for one? There is a single bracket open at a time, for all players, based on time of entry. Fair luck of the draw for all. I am so sick of having to waste tons of HP and iso pushing to 1800+ for top5 while i see guys getting 1st place in brackets with 600 points. It's just not fair at all. sharding has gotten completely out of control.
And would that be fair to the transition players? There are already many complaints for this group of players that they can not crack top 100 and above. A pure time based bracket may make it easier for us veterans, but it sure will screw the new players even more than now.
Like I said, I would want to be in top 5 consistently, but I can't think of anyway that helps me, without screwing the new players.
Doesn't matter. Speaking from personal experience, transitioners are tossed in with veterans already. I say; share the pain equally across the board and give everyone the luck of the draw to end up in the occasional newbie bracket for an easier win. Too bad for the new players, but they're already being tossed a T-Rex sized bone with PvE totally being geared to be an easy win for them.0
