Why this game isn't fun anymore

I spent a couple of hours and worked my way up to #1 in the Widow Maker tourney. Came out of a victory to this

6uwPWKx.png

There is no **** way I should be able to get hit by that many people at once. This bumped me to 10th. Won another 20 pointer then came out to a -69. Before I could find another opponent I got hit for another 33 to drop to 37.

As I type this, I've been whacked so many times I've lost the will to continue. I'm sitting at 109th place with 389 points. From first to 109. After nearly 2 hours of working my way up, 257 points lost in 25 minutes time and I'm worse than when I started.

Devs, seriously, this has been one of the biggest complaints since this game was released. This is soul crushing and certainly reinforces that there is no sense in playing this game more than a few minutes in a sitting, ever. Putting a lot of time into this game doesn't reward you at all.

I need a break...

Exactly what happened to me. Was getting to the point I was losing more points from people with higher level teams but lower points than I was gaining from retaliating. With progression rewards reaching up to 1400(?). It's been rare that any bracket I was in exceeded 700.

Oh sht, the guy who attacked me and prevented me from getting the purple OBW cover @ 600 progression points IS YOU.

  • I got that 3 times during that widow maker tourney (-100 or more) and I still managed to finish top 4 you just gotta keep going, also attacking easy targets for small amounts of points leads to more retaliation, it works out costing you more points, go for bigger targets.

That's all I do. Every battle is for 20 or more for me.

Yeah same thing happened to me. From #2 with only a few points to 1st down to top 100 somewhere in the last 10 minutes. Not fair or fun. And there is no amount of being awesome or strategy that can combat 100 point loses to every 25-50 point gain in the last 10 minutes of a match. I got 1st in the 1st tournament this week and something around 80th in the Second. The system is seriously messed up.

Same thing happened to me as well. I was at #9 with around 30 minutes to go. I came out of a match and lost about 85 points. Then lost another 70+ immediately after that. I played a couple more matches and eventually gave up. I would win 20 points and come out having lost 50 more. I've never had a slide that bad that quickly. It's happend when I wake up but that's to be expected after several hours. I finished in the top 100, I'm not sure exactly where because it kept falling.
  • And this is why I didn't play widow no mans land or no holds just not interested in seeing this **** anymore I just don't think it's worth it. I hear change is coming I hope it's for the better but points systems is not this games strong point and I'm not holding my breathe as long as rubber banding is invoked in the short events. It's just fine for the 8 day events not everyone can or will play all 8 days but a 2 day event needs old school grind points collection. Make people play those 2 days or just not get those rewards instead of sneaking in at the last min which I'm so very guilty of doing
  • Yea, I've removed myself from trying in these types of scoring tourneys. It's too frustrating.

I appreciate the forum goers that give me a heads up on which ones are scored this way. Wish the game devs would do it instead(in game).
  • They need to reach a happy medium. The moment it comes down to just a straight up grind in PVP tournaments, I'm probably done.Particularly once I start the school semester. 40 hour work week + 20+ hours of school. I won't have the time to keep up, and I'll burn out trying. =\ But the scoring as it stands is frustrating as all get out.

I'm pretty sure when this scoring first reared its ugly head in a tourney other than hood lightning IceIX didn't even know about it until he read about it on the forums so I don't think they are trying to hide anything from us. It's a mistake more than anything else.

Yeah, but they still haven't come clean on it. The closest we've gotten is that one statement in Suggestions.

The ironic part... I was pushing for the 700 and never reached it.

What else is there to say? They've stated:

    1. It wasn't intended.
    2. It will need a client-side patch, which would have to wait till after the holidays.
    3. That they are actively looking at revamping PVP scoring in general to make it more satisfactory.

Agreed, I'm new to this type of gaming and I'm not sure if they've come clean about stuff in the past with official statements but considering how much interaction we get (especially with Ice) I'm satisfied with how this issue is being handled. Yeah it sucks that it happened and it sucks that a fix can't happen more quickly but all things considered I think it has been handled just fine.

We (forum goers) are unfortunately a very small portion of the player base so I would probably be feeling differently if I wasn't part of the boards. But again I'm not sure what the precedent for this type of thing is.

Omg I did the same thing ! I was #1 in black widiw tournament like 10 times today but i could not hold that spot nor could i hold top 10. It's like i put my phone down for one minute and then i pick it back up and bamm! 50 points gone. Bamm! 100 points gone! Bamm! 23 points gone. Then i found my self struggling to get back to the top because i have to face outrageous teams now. I was mad because i had worked my butt off for like 2 days trying to stay top 10 just to see myself fail in the end v.v
In the end i manged to get to get 3 wolverine covers but they where useless because i already had him maxed /:. Yesterday i manage to get just a little over 700 until i got hit 3 times in a row and back down to #26

An in game announcement. Or at least in the patch notes. Without snarky wording.

Seriously. Less than 1% of the userbase reads this forum. The rest deserve an apology as well.

And yes, it was the holidays, which is why it's more inexcusable. If I put in a code change that broke our systems over the holidays I'd be looking for work (but my job has a public face that's a few magnitudes higher visibility...). I certainly wouldn't expect that; it's a game after all, not a major network. But the point remains -- anyone in IT knows you don't put in new systems/code before the weekend. Much less before a holiday. I've been on call before, and the 3 am phone call isn't fun (been there, done that; not even my fault -- leap day bugs are fun).

Well, I mean they pushed patches breaking things mere hours before tournaments ended before. Multiple times.
  • so here's the deal. i experienced what you did a few times with the 4 attack backs for every 1 attack made near the end of the tourney. The reason why this happens is you mentioned you spent the final 2h of grinding your way up into the 6-700s. to get there you are going to make a lot of people's hit lists for retaliation. in the final 15 min everyone is looking for that big juicy 30+ score which at 600+ you now offer and conveniently get a big red bulls eye on your back.

is it fun? no. is it the current meta of the tourneys? yes.

if you want a hope at finishing in the top 20s do your run to 700 a day before tourney end. then go relax and do whatever until the final 1h, you've now lost 300-400 points but you've got a stock of juicy retaliations yourself, pick a couple with much higher score than you and bounce back to 650 easily. now check every 5 or 10 min and stop retaliating even if someone hit you, you want to stop being a target. for each loss you take pick another random fight with someone much higher, they wont attack back for fear of losing more than they gain. if they do, they are active/stubborn just skip and find another. continue to jockey +30 / -30 the final 20 min and you should get into the top 10 with a fairly real chance at top 4.

never attack someone worth less than 25 points no matter how often you need to skip. also ignore any prize at 1000 and up, they are just a mirage in front of a big stack of -45 attacks.

top 1 is still possible, ive done top 1 and top 2 recently. really it boils down to how many times you get attacked in the final moments and with the current scoring that can still knock you off the top if the match maker isnt kind.
