Do you think Balance of Power is a poorly designed event

I can't stand this PvP. The 1* Hawkeye tournament was more fun.

Good times.

I'd rather just do NHB.

I said it before and I'll say it again, it's fun but it shouldn't be a season event. It's just far too unpredictable to get a solid score.
  • The buffs to every player just make this a boring grindfest. I basically tanked my S5 rank because i just wasnt willing to pull my hair and get frustrated trying to score well in this PVP. i dont regret my decision.

  • I've been saying for a while but if they figured out how to balance this game they'd also have to figure out how to either make a new point structure that'd work while winning perhaps 75% of your game, or make the AI play purposely worse as the game drags on so they don't beat you down with their ironman endurance when you can't cheese them anymore. Balance of Power isn't even really that balanced but the shift in levels shifts the powerhouse characters to the kinds AI can play well (Juggernaut, OBW, etc) and it's quite obvious that winning is way harder.
  • The two options for this poll should have been:

    - Yes.
    - Hell yes.

It's more that anyone can retaliate easily, and that the scaling makes most (non-sentry) 3*s arguably more attractive a target because of their lower scaling health than some 2*s (and juggs)

  • I think this event was challenging because of an evil twist that D3 put into it---making ALL characters level 270 AUTOMATICALLY. If my memory serves me right, the previous BoP event didn't do that. Instead the level buff was based on the character's actual vs. max level, and buffed accordingly. Small wonder that I saw a lot of players running level 1 Jugs w/ 10 covers. icon_lol.gif If money is no object for the player, it was certainly a smart decision to invest some hp in a slot, and then more hp to max cover the jug. Once the jug is dead, it will regen right back up again after a relatively short period of time.

Fortunately, there are ways to neutralize him, and my favorite approach was a stun team with MHawkeye, MBW, and Jug (for quick damage and meat shield). icon_lol.gif

BoP 2.0 was not an event where players could simply take a rinse-and-repeat approach of using the same team over and over and over again, not if you want to avoid blowing $$$ on heal packs. Also, since every character was instant buffed to level 270, the format leveled the playing field for the newbies and 2star players and allowed them to compete with 3* rosters. I could see D3 trotting out BoP 2.0 again some time this season, if the revenue ###s warrant this.
  • Just to play devil's advocate, it is nicer for those who don't have a topped out roster...I can kinda see the benefit of it...

But not so nice to have it while there is a pve with a new character up for grabs...
  • I loved the event. My main complaint is that putting one stars at 270 does some real gross things, and makes for weird situations - would prefer one stars get put to a point that their match damage puts them at the same spot as a 270 four star, but whatever.

This is the one event where the newer/transitioning player can really excel, directly rewards massive rosters, and allows for a lot of fun experimenting.

Also, as someone with a covered **daken and a couple green and yellow sentry covers, I got to experience high level play - a good encouragement to keep playing.

For all its annoying grindiness and health-pack mulching, I actually liked the event by the end. Making literally everyone in my roster L270 let me screw around with my max-covered unleveled characters, which was neat. I went through a bunch of weird team comps during my main climb.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with the event itself, just don't make it mandatory for season points. That way haters can ignore it with no problems.

I went through a bunch of weird team comps because I ran out of health packs but still needed more points to climb in the final hour, and was pretty surprised at how a lot of them turned out to be surprisingly decent.

IMO, Balance of Power and Combined Arms are two of the best ideas the devs have had. But, (theres always a "but"), I agree it should not have counted as a season score.

Personally, i loved this event, however something like that might be better if it were like the old Shield Simulator in the proloque. It would only have progression awards and then refresh after a month or so. And it should NOT be mandatory.

But, come on, you gotta admit that some characters had pretty sweet powers at that level and it was fun to use them.

  • I have to say, I enjoyed this event. I happened to have a fully covered Juggs, cStorm, mnMags, Ares and OBW that I hadn't put any ISO into yet. They bounced back really quickly no matter how creamed they got in the tournament. I have a fair amount of roster slots that are still very much in development, but the uniform 270 boost meant pretty much everyone - and I mean even Moonstone - got at least one fight. It was cool to get to play my whole roster instead of the same 4 or 5 covers which is a small fraction of the team. While I scored lower than I would have liked, the lower targets for the season rewards mean I'm not too worried about it. Yet... This was fun. I'd do it again. And given we're staring down the barrel of a miserable Dr Doom PvP and afterthe endless, thankless grind of the Venom PvE I think that puts this event into perspective.
  • I found that Juggs+OBW+Hood pretty much destroyed any team I choose to attack, and it was surprisingly sustainable (my Juggs was lvl1, so even from downed he only took 45 minutes to get back to full), because OBW healed a little bit more than Juggs self damage.

Not to mention it was full rainbow and a nightmare to go against on defense (had about 50% win rate on def).

    Same here with Jugs+Venom+2*Hawkeye.
Jugs and Venom on meat shield, Venom's snare to spare some time for Hawkeye's countdowns to go off. Hawkeye adding further stuns and massive single target damage or good AoE damage. Juggernaut being Juggernaut.
About a 50% win rate on defense as well.

I love the BoP event in its current incarnation, because it places everyone on an equal footing and makes the event truly about skill and strategy. The only limiting factors are which characters you have and how far they are covered for skills. (I'd actually love for a future BoP to give you a full roster of all characters in the game with a full 5/5/5 skillset to work with. That'd be lots of fun to explore synergies with!)

I know I took one look at it and decided there were easier teams around - I think I beat up a Juggs/Daken team instead icon_lol.gif

Using all characters >>>>>>>>>>>> Semi-mindlessly pushing with Sentry over and over.
  • Total balls, hated gagging on them.

    Oh and Dean is hot.

How do you think D3 will convince players to blow $$$ on heal packs otherwise? You should better than that. tsk tsk icon_e_ugeek.gif

Loved the fact that they trotted out She Hulk pvp event while she was one of the limited playable characters for pve event. icon_lol.gif
