Walk... it's been an honor. May your drinking be swift and delicious. And may you avoid the coppers while you are doing said drinking.

MPQ won't be the same without you.

RIP WYP.... yet another veteran off to the land of MPQ Retirement.

    Best of luck man!!
  • The original MPQ legend, 2 x Elite champion (which officially crowned him as the daddy) and general all round top bloke.

Enjoy post MPQ life buddy. Trust me, it's all good.
  • For those who haven't been around as long, the original Elite tournaments were 150 hp buyin, no brackets, and lasted 2.5 days. For the first one, top prize was 10,000 hero points. That's not a typo, that's 10 THOUSAND hero points. The second and third ones awarded one of EVERY cover in the game. Needless to say, competition in these tournaments was exceedingly fierce and the best of the best brought their A game for 2.5 days straight.

walkyourpath won the first Elite tournament, which was pretty impressive all by itself. Then he wrote up a clear, detailed, insightful, and complete guide as to exactly HOW he won the tournament, in the process inventing the strategy we know today as shield-hopping. A few weeks later, with everyone knowing how he did it and a target on his back, he went out and won the third Elite tournament, becoming the only player ever to win multiple unbracketed Elites.

He was also the founder and commander of S.H.I.E.L.D, the winner of Season 1 and one of only four alliances to place in the top 10 every season, and an invaluable contributor to countless threads who improved just about every conversation with his unique blend of insight and humor. Almost everyone who is still on the forums today and is considered knowledgeable owes a debt of gratitude to walkyourpath for being so open and willing to discuss strategy and tactics.

Truly a legend of the game, wyp. You will be missed. May the end of this journey start you on the path to something else you enjoy as much as you once did MPQ, and may you find as much success there as you did here!
  • Nice write up, captures the accomplishment of wyp very well indeed. I must make a slight correction on the S.H.I.E.L.D history, Nick Fury (the player, not Samuel L.) founded the group, wyp was selected as a founding member along with Nemek, Jachdo and myself. Before anyone knew what alliances were going to do or anything. I remember feeling really proud to be grouped with real Elite tournament legends like them at the time, they felt like proper players to me. I never played an Elite event, I made my name more in LRs in the early days, if anything. As well as having a roster people seemed to covet.

NF quit before alliances took off for real, and wyp took the reigns along with Nemek. Was an absolute pleasure to be a senior part of that team under their stewardship, there was never any inflated requirements or drama or genital waving... we all just played hard and shot the proverbial brown stuff. Good times, I'll always remember those days fondly and wyp deserves credit for his part in making them so fun.
  • Ladder speaks the truth - Nemek and I never intended to lead SHIELD, it happened by chance. We were beyond fortunate to rally such an amazing group of players together. I don't really know how exactly we pulled it off, but I am very grateful it happened. Great people all around!

And I still don't know how they made the mistake of letting me in.

I think that was part of the fun of it, whilst some groups (you know who you are lord klingy!) were desperate to achieve success and build a megapower, we were just a bunch of loonies that were cobbled together and happened to be pretty decent players. And all bounced off each other in a fun, competitive way. I don't recall a single crossed word or argument in my time in the team. Although there may have been external strife, Joze hasn't always been everyone's cup of tea (he's a cool guy, honest), there was the whole Brady 'poaching' incident and mud slinging to follow (uncomfortable episode #1) and then the CH 'kicking' incident when we couldn't get hold of him (uncomfortable episode #2).

    Damn you nostalgia!

Yeah, I agree. You made most of us look ridiculously poor with your scoring power. icon_e_wink.gif

We're sad to see you go. You have always been a role model to us, even back in January when all we had were two stars.

We have a secret...whenever we're not so sure about the best way to build a char, we check how S.H.I.E.L.D members do it. So you and your teammates have helped us immensely.

And don't get us started on Anatomy of a Tournament. That post was fantastic, and we still have the link stashed away. Thank you so much for that!

Best of luck to you in your new game endeavours! May you help your future fellow gamers the same way you aided us.

    Thanks for everyhing!
