edited August 2014 in MPQ General Discussion
-- Series to be called "Avengers NOW", Issue #1 in November.
-- Most characters will also have their own solo series of comics running simultaneously; list not finalized yet.

From earlier reveals,

-- New Female Thor (identity unknown, but tipped that it is one of the women that is important in Thor's life currently)
-- New Captain America (Sam Wilson)

Adding to the list

-- Iron Man (new version - "Superior Iron Man"; "Apple-like" White armor, more businesslike and significantly less likable [possible dig at Apple/Google per Entertainment Weekly])
-- Scarlet Witch
-- Deathlok
-- Doctor Strange
-- Winter Soldier (Bucky Barnes)
-- Inferno (Inhumans)
-- Medusa (Inhumans)
-- Angela (Neil Gaiman)

EDIT: Added second collaborating site verifying this lineup.

On the heels of these announcements that we will have a female Thor and a Black Captain America, Marvel revealed the roster for a planned "Avengers NOW" program – and the driving motive of the team appears to be diversity. Women and ethnic minorities populate the ensemble – but so, too, do faces that we have seen introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (or on the radar to be revealed soon). Take a look at the names revealed to be part of this retooled Avengers lineup: Medusa, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, The Winter Soldier, Angela, Thor, Captain America, Inferno and Deathlok are the members of the new team.

Hold on there. Nowhere anywhere, in this or any other article about this, does it officially say that this is the new Avengers team, and there is absolutely no mention anywhere of any comic called Avengers NOW starting in November. This is all complete speculation on your and the public's behalf.

Avengers NOW is just another name for the third wave of Marvel NOW. This is almost certainly just another NOW promo image with a collection of characters that are about to get new books/relaunches or are about to have the spotlight put on them, you know, just like every single other time they have done this. It even suggests all this in that very article.

Where is this verification you speak of? All I see is a lot of people making baseless assumptions.

The first article you posted is the original announcement, direct from Marvel, that everyone else is jumping on board and misinterpreting. It does not say one word about any comic called Avengers NOW or that this is the new Avengers team. In fact it sure sounds like it's saying exactly what I said:

"Avengers NOW! goes way beyond the Big Three. All the characters in the exclusive image above will play a more prominent role in the Marvel Universe going into 2015. That makes sense for Dr. Strange, Scarlet Witch, and Ant-Man, who will be in the public eye as their film debuts move closer to release. But Marvel will also be focusing more on Inhuman characters like Medusa and Inferno, alongside the new Marvel arrival Angela, who originated as an Image character but who is being worked into Thor’s mythology."

and specifically refers to it every time as a company initiative, not a team. Read the original article. It's all right there.

Looks like a team to me.

The B-Team, but still a team.

Looks like IM is going for a Silver Surfer look. Always liked Doc Strange so that's cool. I'm guessing Hulk will like the female
Thor much more than the current one icon_e_smile.gif

When I compare those images with the new one, the most important vibe I get is: 'if we don't own the movie rights to it, we don't care about it'. No Spidey, FF or X-Men, and Inhumans being pushed as the new mutants, of sorts.

I'll be glad to see Doc Strange getting more love, though. I really hope that movie is going to be as trippy as it should be.

If it is a team, a lot of cabinets are getting shuffled.

Is this the end of Uncanny Avengers? I wouldn't be surprised after the Planet X storyline.
What does Angela think of this lady wielding the Mjolnir?
Will Inferno eventually stop tugging on Medusa`s coat tails?

    Mkay. Sure thing.

There is literally zero chance that after a Marvel-blessed Entertainment Weekly published article, that Marvel changes anything at this point. Marvel is not going to backstab one of the largest formal Hollywood news outlets there is.

This is what is called an authorized "teaser", while still under NDA. Marvel is likely saving the "formal" announcement for San Diego Comic Con next weekend. EW likely paid Marvel big bucks to break the news and soft-reveal Superior Iron Man, as Hollywood outlets tend to do quite often.

Patience. You'll get your first-party authorization next weekend, assuming someone doesn't pay Marvel for the rights to "formally" announce this sooner.

-- A quick Google search this morning reveals even more outlets running with the story now (because EW is considered credible with this type of news), and even more pictures of Superior Iron Man have appeared. There may not be much left to reveal by the convention next weekend, at this rate.

Not everyone is reporting it as a team. The ORIGINAL article never says it's a team. It's an avengers centric marvel now campaign. The splash page just shows characters that will play major paets in the next year or will have their own books.

I have absolutely no idea what changes or backstabbing or etc. you're talking about. No one is questioning the authenticity of this picture or the characters in it, merely the existence of a team made up of these characters and a comic book called Avengers NOW, which right now, only exist in a realm of pure fantasy, born of wild speculation, because the simple fact is, that article simply DOES NOT say those things, and it doesn't matter if other articles ARE saying them, because they're all based on the same original article that DOES NOT. I really don't know how to possibly say that any more clearly, so I won't even try again. I'll just ask you to remember that "I told you so." when the time comes.

The "female Thor" is his sister and it's most likely going to be Angela (created by Neil Gaiman) after all the dust settles and you take the promotional picture with a teasing grain of salt.

but...none of the people in that picture are the same person either...

p.s. re: Occam's Razor. How in the world do you figure that seeing a picture of two entirely separate characters standing right next to each other leads to the simplest possible explanation that they're both the same person?

Well, I guess Scarlet Witch didn't die in Uncanny Avengers. That's exactly when I put down the book.

Female Thor is not his sister. His sister is Angela, the chick next to fem Thor in the picture. Angels was made by Neil gaiman for the spawn series. She was brought into the marvel universe during original sin. She is from the tenth realm apparently.
