rixmith wrote:Of course I'd recommend it. Match 3 is fun. Marvel heroes are fun. As new players they won't know about the things that have changed over the last months that frustrate long time players. Why wouldn't my friends like it?
I used to recommend it. I just can't anymore. I am one of those players who is "stuck". I am trying to make that 2* to 3* transition and it's downright frustrating. I am not in a big alliance, so I don't get free HP or ISO rainign down on me. I don't get free covers rolling in every event. In the past month, other than 1*'s or 2*'s I already have, I have pulled a Daredevil Red and an Xforce green. Neither of those really help me in any way. I like DD, except that his traps get overwritten by everything.
And to top off my current frustration. I never developed my 2* Daken, Rags, or even Ares cause if I figured at the time I would never use them. Now that I am trying to make the 2-3 star transitions.... I have no tanks.
Going through this hell trying to do the transition seioulsy puts me at wits end. Why do I keep playing... cause I am addicted. Good thing my wife controls the money in the household, cause I may do something stupid and paying to win.
So no, as someone going through just treading my heels in the muck, I would not recommend this game in it's current state to anyone.0 -
I was thinking about this last night and all I could think of was that they're trying to make this game more "casual" and to increase appeal to the casual market. They're kind of neglecting the more hardcore segment of the playerbase - which is probably most of the people on the forum.
I don't think that played pretty casually that the game is probably that bad.
As a PC and steam player I wouldn't recommend this really to anyone in that respect but on mobile - just maybe... just maybe if you didn't have a competitive streak then yeah, this game might appeal.
As stated by everyone who has taken a big step back on here and are playing this game a lot more casually are enjoying this game a lot more.0 -
I would recommend it to a friend who loves Marvel characters as much as I do AND does not have a gambling problem.
When my brother told me to download this game I was very skeptical that I would like candy crush just because it had a Marvel liscence... and yet, here I am. I love it. D3 gets enough right to keep me coming back.
That said, I would hate to recommend this game to a friend who spent their money unwisely. I don't like that some people spent thousands on this game. I don't like that even 200 HP cover pack purchases can be regretful. My brother and I have weekly discussions about which purchases are worthwhile and which are totally **** insane. And it changes! We used to each buy $5 in cover packs a week... Now? No way!
I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend Hearthstone, even though I like it less, because it's so much easier to assess the value of purchases. Plus, after spending $50, there really is no reason to keep spending. In MPQ, $50 could be spent to get 2/13 of a 4* character's covers... That is just plain stupid for the buyer. And straight up evil from the seller.
TL;DR I enjoy Heartstone less than MPQ, but I would recommend it over MPQ. Because Blizzard won't rip you off for being new to the game. 'Nuff said.0 -
I would recommend it to an mobile device american Marvel zombie (the term was widely used 20 years ago on comics mail pages, not sure if it still applies!^^).
The game depends so much on time contrains, that european players and Steam players have a HUGE handicap.
The metarules are too unclear (do tanking still apply? how does matchmaking work, in general? does a certain eveny apply rubberbanding and if yes, during all the event duration?) and changing.
Lack of noncompetitive modes (no, prologue is too short to be counted!)
I like the game, but this 3 points are spoiling it for me.
As Gunther points out, Hearthstone is a good example of very, very solid, round and well-designed game, wich i could recommend to almost anyone; but competition is radically different, as the only reward you get from "seasons" are new designs for the back of your deck.0 -
In a lot of ways its become hard to recommend this game to friends now because of all the little cash grabbing changes they made...
For example, as a completely new player to open slots, they now need to open 3 at once for a total of 500HP, which is a lot of HP for a new player with no way to rake HP in easily...
Add on the fact of how tricky it can be to transition from 2* - 3* among other little things, means that it burns new players out really quick once they realize they are forced to spend cash to progress or grind out an incredibly slow and arduous journey to building up a roster while ridding themselves of many potentially useful cards in the process...0 -
Yes, but only if they're willing to spend $50-$100 on HP to get started.0
-
I can't really say no, as I still play this daily. But I'd tell any friends not to spend a single penny until they had played for a while and worked out if they were going to enjoy the "play for a few rounds and then have to log off" method of the game.
I'd feel at that point I have given them fair warning and then if they are into it, cool.0 -
Would not recommend
EVER0 -
If I knew another person that was a hard core casual gamer, I would recommend it to them. All my friends are better off playing Candy Crush, though.0
-
Yes. Absolutely. Without hesitation.
Why? The core gameplay is excellent and there's a constant sense of progression that can easily last several months. The game is FUN.
Looking at this game as a top tier player with an establish roster, do I see faults with the game design and execution? Absolutely.
I could let those faults sour my experience but that would be unfair to hundreds of hours of fun I've had leading up to this point.
I think the 'hardcore' crowd sometimes forgets this. Just because you 'might' dislike the game now...doesn't mean you forced yourself to play a genuinely awful game for the hundreds of hours it took to reach this point.0 -
I vote no. I like the game, I like how you can work towards getting more characters, and I like how the characters you use have strategy. It's gives me something to pay attention than the arbitrary match 3 stuff I normally see, plus I'm a Marvel fan. Right now, though, I'm 75 days played, and I've seen some nerfs that seriously impact the progression ability of new f2p players.
I'm stuck seriously considering dumping ISO into Spooderbag just to get another 2* character maxed so I can have another health bar to throw into a game or two after the healing change. There are way too many 3* characters that require way too many covers to get anywhere, and every event token you win might as well be another Spooderbag cover. PVE events have no rhyme or reason as to how scaling works, PVP's MMR is some unknown mess of "Lose a bunch on purpose" **** going on. If you manage to score well, you get to a point where every time you attack a foe, you come out 40+ points lower than where you started. The roster has too many incomplete characters, with only two powers, which cripples a lot of their viability, or even worse, their powers are a complete mess with costs that are insane (looking at you again, Spooderbag, along with your buddy Cap). Getting an unlucky cascade against you where 40 AP and 2 crits just drop in on an AI match 3 on the top row might mean that in a few seconds, you lose your ability to play for several hours.
The good news is that all of the flaws I see can be countered by spending money. A lot of it.
The game is far too centered around P2W for me to recommend to anyone.0 -
I would happily recommend this game, if I could recommend them going back to when I started in November. Plenty of time to build up a roster, invest in just a few characters, then as each new character comes along build them up too...
Now? I can't imagine trying to get 13 covers for any new character without having to spend, and as for the iso to fill them? Not a chance.
It's a good game, but it's a marathon not a sprint0 -

I'm 250 days in and I've seen about 3 times the amount of nerfs and it's really just a effing joke at this point. Remember that character you just invested 5 months building up? Well, he's been crippled to death by nerfs.
I barely play anymore and I enjoy this forum more than playing the same old boring events in MPQ.
Thanks to anyone who has recomminded Hearthstone!0 -
I have had people ask me about the game and I recomend it with caution. This game can be very fun, but very frustrating. When you start you don't get to play much becuase your characters are low level once you build your 1* team only put ISO into 2* OBW, THOR, Wolvie, Ares, MMN, Cstorm, and now Torch. I tell them only use HP for roster slots and wait on shielding until you actually have a strong roster. I tell them about alliances. I tell them once you have built them up around 3 months then you understand the game and can go after the 3* character covers. Overall I enjoy this game I can consistantly get top 10-top 25 in most PVP events with 1 3-8 hour shield and I have a deep enough roster that I usually have the essential characters for PVE. If you treat the game as a daily distraction and a way to have fun and you like Marvel Characters it is a good game.0

I would still recommend. Lately, I've been having more fun because I don't neckbeard events anymore.
This game has its progression issues, but it's an awesome match 3 at its heart. Doesn't quite match my nostalgia stained impression of the first PQ, but I've loved every installment, and so have my gamer friends. Even Galactrix.0 -
I said no, because it's a very specific type of person who will like this game. I play it laying around in bed at night or sitting on the sofa while I'm bored and the TV is on in the background. Most of my friends would not consume a game like that. They either want to actively play a game, or don't play games at all. There is really nothing to achieve in MQP. It's just something to perpetually kill time (basically you'll never win). I've basically built it into my life as the thing I do to kill time when I can, and I'm not sure how many people like to play games like that. I really enjoy the game and find it perfect for wasting time, but the fact that your just a horse chasing a carrot tied in front of you that you'll never catch is going to turn most people off.0

You are basing your opinion on your personal experience rather than the current status quo of the game. You should realize that nowadays the 2* -> 3* transition has become painful to the point of impossible, unless you are willing to put in a massively disproportional amount of grinding time, are willing to play at ridiculous times to curry a favorable final placement, or are willing to put up a substantial fist of hard cash for the odd-ball 4% chance of receiving the missing 3* cover you still need.
The core gameplay is still intact and the Marvel branding is still cool, but D3/Demiurge have let the community, the meta and everything else sink.0 -

I think you've landed on something here that's pretty interesting, and really highlights one of the major faults with the design of this game as a whole. They do seem to be trying to, for lack of a better term, take the game back for the casual player, people who play in their much vaunted "usual mobile patterns". The problem is that this game is not designed around casual play. Everything outside the prologue is highly competitive, and to get the best rewards, the biggest carrots that drive the action of the competition, you must be more hardcore. They've even added rewards to the top, like the extra covers and Iso for top 5 finish in PvP, that push people towards more, not less, hardcore behavior.
Play more to get better rewards, but don't play too much because you'll run out of healing. Play when you want, but make sure you play at the end or you're boned. They're pushing and pulling at the same time and more than anything it seems to be making people snap. My takeaway from their behavior is they're just really out of touch with this game and the community. They spend too much time looking at spreadsheets and numbers and think they know what all their precious metrics mean, but they're reading their virtual tea leaves wrong and generally making a mess of things as a result.0 -

QFE. I mentioned their obsession with statistics months ago and warned back then as well that drawing conclusions blindly and directly from metrics, rather than using metrics to validate conclusions drawn from proper user study was a dangerous thing to do. And it looks like I was right. (I hate being right about these things. Sometimes I wish my crystal ball would develop a damn crack.)0 -
I've been spending more time browsing through the forums than actually playing the game so,
yes, I'd definitely recommend the forums to my friends.0
