Poll: Would you recommend this game?

It's a simple question and not so simply answered... sometimes... especially for hardcore veteran players.
Most of the time people will say to their (other gamer) friends that they should also try and engage in the current game that their binging on.
And despite the amount of time I actually spend on MPQ it's safe to say for the longest time I would not recommend this to any of my friends due to the state the game is in.
I'd just like to see how people feel about this, reasons would be appreciated as to why or why not.
Personally for me as I've stated before (and I'm paraphrasing here), I feel the game is flat and the progression of the game isn't improving at any substantial rate - if at all.
The devs don't seem to want to increase the size of their playerbase at all and seem content to recycle players.
I'm sure at one point they even said - in response to PvE player scaling - that if you were doing too well, and you got locked out - then if you sit out that event your levels would go back to normal (or something to that extent), which is a terrible, terrible view and if that's really the direction they want to keep the game in... I might as well just quit now. If they actually thought that having to sit out an event was reasonable then that's it. I'm throwing in the towel - I'm sure I don't really need to explain myself on why.

I debated the answer with myself for a while. I reasoned that, with caveats, I would.
But then I stopped and realized that I have a number of friends who read Marvel comics and play mobile games and that I had not once ever recommended the game to them, so clearly the answer is 'no.'0 -
"Yes, but..."
Yes
It's a polished match 3 game, with a good licence, and there's fun to be had chasing covers & building characters.
But...
Would not advise to spend money, beyond maybe £10 of HP to say thank you to devs & publisher for game.
I spent much more money than I should of, and it was ultimately pointless because the fun in MPQ is in the chasing of covers - not in actually getting them.
There is no end-game, and no positives in graduating to 3* - it just makes the game slower, increases temptation to spend and dramatically lengthens the gap between meaningful progression.
Summary:
1. If like Marvel + if like match 3 games.
2. Give a go playing through 1* .
3. If enjoying then thank the devs with a micro-transaction.
4. Play up through 2* (trashing 3*/4* unless spare slots - and willpower!).
5. Quit game on a high/check in casually for new 1* or 2*s.
I would have saved a lot of disposable income if I'd gotten that advice, and probably find the lost step rather easier - cannot quite quit entirely clinging to hope there'll be a new mode (or change) someday that makes my roster 'worth it' entertainment-wise.0 -
I'll assume that at least a few "no"s came from people who play themselves. Can someone explain why a game would be good enough for you but not your friends? Is this an issue of general good/bad or merely taste preferences of specific friends?

Also I keep playing this game because of Marvel. If it was any other IP I'm pretty sure the game would've died ages ago0 -

Pretty much this also for me. Since I managed to climb to the 3* tier before things started to go haywire I feel now reluctant to leave since I'm in a position where I have a good, large roster and can actually compete. I dread to think how difficult it might be for those who are still stuck in 2* tier or are just beginning this game. I envy them not.
So no, I most definitely will not recommend this to anyone. But it's still a guilty pleasure of mine mainly because of Marvel.0 -

I'm invested. I have a collection of covers, a couple of good characters and a couple others who are getting close to primetime, so that's what keeps me playing. But before I could recommend this game to someone who's never tried it, I would need to see it start to trend in some positive directions.
In the few months I've been playing I've seeing fewer new events, less effort going in to new characters, very little priority given to balancing existing characters, disappearing Iso bonuses, less creative but more demanding PvP, more and more money sinks, and no actual signs that the game will improve in the near future. All indications right now are that this game will continue to get worse, so I'm not going to tell someone else to check it out until I see evidence otherwise.0 -

ever have a substance abuse problem?
for me its the same concept. im hooked on something that i KNOW is bad for me or effecting me negatively...yet i keep doing it.. Even if i thought one of my friends might enjoy the same thing that im hooked on, i wouldnt recommend it to them because i wouldn't want them going through the same negative thing that i am, if they dont have to
.
personaly thats why i checked no.

I have recommended it in the past, but stopped around when alliance rewards went in. The neutering of individual rewards and and emphasis on never stop playing mechanics were enough. While individual rewards were recently restored, the insane time sink aspect has only ratcheted up. I wouldn't knowingly inflict it on anyone.0

The game has a steep curve when it comes to taste. I have recommended this game in the past, but not recently. I had one friend quit completely when he realized he should have spent HP on roster space, and not character covers. I don't blame him. That was a bit of a trick by the devs, but it is the nature of the free-to-play (F2P) beast.
I will state that MPQ does F2P right. You don't have to spend a dime if you don't desire. You can still achieve all the same accomplishments that a paid player is capable of reaching, you only need to contribute the time. This is similar to LotRO, which I've seen comparisons with on this forum. The big difference between these two games is MPQ has zero endgame. Right now you just collect covers so you can compete to collect more covers. They need to bring more of an RPG element to the game such as Base/Hideout building, or maybe a themed event where Hero & Villain rosters vie for territory or some MPQ story line impact (that is: being able to affect the game story through play, rather than merely reading it as you go). It is in this realm that D3 could stand to improve and generate more of a feeling of accomplishment.
I started this game just after the patch/thor nerf debacle, and I'm glad I did, I was able to easily achieve my Villain covers which were a step ladder to 3*s. That path is all but sunk now, and I don't know how people can stand the grind that seems to have developed. Then again, I'm not experiencing the game at that level, so I don't know how bearable it actually is. I only know things used to be easier.
Nowadays, my Alliance is just about the only thing keeping me playing regularly, and I feel lucky to be a member. I also don't know how new players find a tolerable alliance. I feel like my play experience has been a convergence of perfect timing that would be difficult to recreate. Therefore, I can not recommend the game to others at this time, as it feels like I would be signing them up for a tedium with little benefit.0 -
I would positively suggest to stay clear of it. Too bad no such option, just plain no.
(And I recall around Christmas I was flaming people seriously for negative recommendations on steam... Flipped mine to negative around when skip tax was announced. Downhill ever since at various speed.)0 -
I have brought several players to this game via another gaming community I am part of. They also brought some players with them. Then, I liked the game. Now, not so much.0
-
Yeah when I first started playing, I nudged my friends to try it, now I actively tell them it's probably not worth their time.
I would think that would say something about the devs product. Really wish they would start listening to people.0 -
No, but its not like if somebody asked me "should I try it" I would say "no,its horrible not fun and a bad use your time". I just wouldn't go out of my way to tell ppl "damn girl/dude/bro(actual brother), download this!" Like I was doing around December.
It's still fine for its mechanics if u have never played before, and its built solid so its not some horrible glitch fest...it just doesnt have any end game to speak of and its harder and harder to progress for new players (something that many times isn't a big deal to new players as ghey never knew it being any other way).
Also a big selling point for me early was the devs seemed to have a dialogue on the forum. They still do, to some extent, but it was exemplary when I started in November and one one eason I stayed as the last game I had played had seen my data deleted and I got literally no response fromyhem of why how or how to fix...or if it was even possible. So going from that situation dialogue was a big deal. That dialogue isn't there like it used to be and its a shame. I get why, the game is exponentially bigger at this point, etcetc...but its still a reason I would have a hartime gping out of my way to tell someone "mpq" if they asked me to give them a list of a few games they should download.
If someone said "what do u think about mpq. I was thinking of dl it" I would be honest. It's fun for what it is...but its not a special game Like it used to be. It's moved more and more p2w and I can only expect it to continue that shift over time. If you are looking for a 15 min a day game, this isn't your dig. If you want a hardcore game, I don't think you should play it, as there is ki end game, but it might be worth a try. If you want a game you can play for long stretches...this isn't it anymore either. If u want a game where you feel fulfilled after each play session...this isn't it. If you want a game that has amazing CS, this isn't bad, but its closer to slightly anime avg than actually "great." If you want a marvel game...thus might be worth your time as far as phone games go...but don't expect to get deadpool and cyclopse and rogue and the red skull. The characters are mostly big avenger names atm and likely for the near future. See, the game itself Jang bad, I just feel they donthave a solid type of game they want it to be other than "makes money" and therefore I don't know who I would really think its built for anymore. Even for "veterans" its not built for them given the speed of new content.
Alltel that said...ppl giving 1* are just lying to themselves. I could see someone unhappy with it and dropping a 2, tho 3 is a little more fair. It's a 3.5/5imo. For myself? Prob a 3, but I KNOW I am jaded lol.0 -
Yes, I would recommend it, but with a fair warning about the transition between ** and *** being a long and arduous process. If they're okay with that, I say why not.0
-
No. Not any more. I started 3 people into this game when I was really enjoying it. I also for the first time ever put real money into a token app purchase during that same time. The 5 bucks probably covered the iso I lost buying covers for Im35. Anyway, as has been mentioned, the state of the game is no longer worth that recommendation... or token purchases.
I put real money in thinking it would make a difference. It allowed me to keep patch, spidey and hulk, which was probably a pretty luck draw from the 20 1* tokens I opened. I think I finally drew more covers for any of those toons at about the 80 day mark. And so what. The 2/1/0 patch is still as useless as the first day I 'saved' him from recycle bin. As are the others.
Maybe someday... except only the top players get rewards that let them grow at a decent rate. Those players of course already have decent viable 3* rosters. Add to that the number of folks competing for covers they don't need... Meanwhile the overall roster keeps bloating making it harder yet.
I can't recommend a game that is set up where strong players prey on the weak and are rewarded for it. It is what bugs me most about the entire pvp system. Good job creating 'heros'.
Nor a game where you have to put so much into daily, broken up as much as possible, just to make baby steps.
So again, not any more.0 -

Of course I'd recommend it. Match 3 is fun. Marvel heroes are fun. As new players they won't know about the things that have changed over the last months that frustrate long time players. Why wouldn't my friends like it?0
