Forums full of spam, new mods needed?

Seriously I love a fitted kitchen as much as the next guy but the amount of lingering spam is a bit much. Have the current mods given up on the game because of all the unpopular development decisions?

No, they're all busy getting their kitchen fitted

I complained on Demiurge's Facebook page because D3 don't have an open one.
  • Oakley Frogskins and Nike shoes, what more could you ever want?

Edit: Good god, it's everywhere. I got some free time in the evenings if they need some help cleaning up the spam. It would be my pleasure. Damn I hate spam.
  • I think it's a fitting metaphor for the game, some nice stuff buried in mounds of garbage.
  • I'm thinking you must receive a thumbs up from at least 20 different people before allowed to create your own threads. If they wanna mass spam bypassing that then let their assessment spam.

Multiple mods have asked IceIX about it, before quitting, and he said Soon (TM). Of course, that's before he disappeared (again) for a few weeks
  • I'm in favor of a work stoppage by current mods. Let the forums get overwhelmed with spam until D3/Demiurge cannot ignore it any longer. Eventually someone will get embarrassed enough to do something.

It's nice that a few mods are taking on the thankless job of cleaning up the forums, but at this point they are just enablers.

The need to hire some real paid forum administrators to deal with the spam. I don't think shovelling **** should be the job of a forum moderator. (the occasional **** yes but not full time)

    Hum...
I don't remember seeing spam on this forum before.

Maybe they should have an automatic filter for spam?
    something like:
    any downvoted, unreplied-to thread
by a new user, or a user found to have created spam threads like described above

But then, realistically, I don't know how high forum cleanliness is on their list of priorities.

But that's it. Nothing has been done about the spam for so long that it is beyond embarrassing. When I opened the forums this morning, I wanted to headdesk immediately and that's why I took my complaining to Demiurge's Facebook again; at least they don't seem to be ignoring folks there.

Oh, Conspiracy Keanu, you always express the community's worries best.

Wanna bet on that something being shutting down these forums?

I agree with Psyko on this one...... This would be a great deterrent for the mass spamming that is making this forum nearly impossible to navigate. If nothing else you could simple have your alliance mates and friends give you the twenty thumbs-up quickly so you can make topics/threads.
  • maybe im in the minority here but im really enjoying my new asics and oakleys...

so... .. ... everythings working as intended???

and oh yeah, im SUPER excited about 2* torch too...

    yeah, so...

That would be too restricting for legit new users who might want to ask questions and who aren't probably in a full alliance, consisting of forumites. But there must be some solutions available because I have never ever seen so much spam on any forum in my life.

While we're at it, PLEASE DO NOT EVER REPLY TO SPAM THREADS (looking at you, spider-prime). Just report and/or downvote, or simply ignore and move on. Answered spam threads are harder for the mods to remove.

Let'em. I would just register mpqforums.___, set up a vbulletin and toss in enough Google metadata to place it at the top of any search for Puzzle Quest.

I used to admin on a Final Fantasy messageboard when I was a horrible teenager and the things I did to forumers who spammed, asked repetitive questions, hijacked threads, started flame wars or otherwise caught me on a bad day are considered war crimes in more enlightened nations.

And until my tolerance break ends and I get some marijuana back in my system, I am more than willing to bring those bad old days back again.

This free forum software is like a spam magnet. There are other better options.

I think they thought / hoped that it would just run and manage itself.

I may have at some point put my hand up to help out here, but the lack of care and respect that the company shows by the way they currently run this place (with as little effort as they can get away with), sort of solves that dilemma for me.

http://www.wh40k.pl/index.php free forum. 5k users. zero spam problems.

It's not the case of free forums - they give plenty of options to deal with spam. But if admin of the forum is incompetent, we can't expect much.

Fair point. I guess I should have clarified a little. My experience with this particular piece of software AND given it's not looked after properly, is the concern.

Not true. We have a forum set up just for our alliance so we can track our progress and chat about game topics with each other. We even have a live chat room feature. All for free. And we get ZERO spam. The first thing I did was disable all "bots" that link you to search engines. The only way to find it is to search our specific alliance name.

But we actually care about our forum. So we took the time to set it up properly. Just saying.

Ours is running phpBB as well.
