    Even with boosted IM40, I think I only got hit by Unibeam once or twice, and that's 13 AP. Him and Thor is the only competition in red space in the current meta. It's common to get hit by a Mjolnir, but 2 Thunderclaps > 1 Mjolnir.

    And if Rags' red is not good, why do people use him? For his green?

    His red is amazing for the green generation but it's a low damage ability. Some people on here seem to think that Ragnarok in a vacuum is the god of all 3 star heroes. He's a green battery, he needs someone else to shine.
    Combine him with even modern storm, and that obscene amount of green translates into not worrying about fueling every other power. Not to mention cascades. I'm convinced he'd still be one of the better characters even if the red did no damage at all

    And, yes, the damage is low. If you're using Rag as your primary damage dealer, you're not playing very quickly. The exception is these lightning tournaments, which really skew people's perception of Ragnarok.

    What's not brought up a lot is the speed in which you can win matches - Ragnarok is really low in actual DPS. At ~600 damage, it would take 10+ thunderclaps to kill an opponent with 6000+ health. A full team of 6000+ health opponents would take 30ish thunder claps (60 red AP). Probably a little less because of cascades...

    In comparison, it takes 2 sniper rifles to kill the entire same team (38 green AP.)

    Rag's strength is not his damage...that's silly. The green he generates is way more important (it's really easy to get enough AP for sniper rifle or other really good green abilities.)
  • In fairness, by the time you did 5 thunderclaps you'd certainly be getting some supplemental green clear damage.

    You're both right.

    It's low damage, but it's also low AP. Per AP it's probably the second or third most efficient in the game (Doom wins for 1st, with potentially infinite damage from Demons for fixed AP and 3* Magneto wins for 2nd (or 1st) with 3-10k damage for 10 AP).

    But that only matters for humans who can and will spam abilities. The AI won't. You can't even be sure the AI will use it over some other red ability (like BW's pistol...) for no apparent reason whatsoever.

    That's a major reason that defense is hopeless in this game -- the AI is just so awful and so unpredictable that you cannot really plan for defense. Whatever you think the AI will do is wrong. It will find the most illogical sequence of AP collection and power usage and go for that.
  • Judging from the comments above it sounds like my overall board play just isn't good enough at the moment to overcome the HP difference.
