Screwed out of She-Hulk covers

I don't pour money into this game. And I realize that if I want to do well in events I have to play... a lot. I have always felt there was a balance in that. For those that spend money they can afford to do better in a shorter period of time, for those who don't mind long stretches of play time and grinding for stuff can do it without spending much or anything. I mean that is why it's called "Free to Play" am I wrong? I don't have the best roster but I play hard. I have invested a lot of time into this event to get a She-Hulk cover... much like I have in many other events to get the new covers. As of up until the last ten or so hours of the event I was placing in the top ten. I worked really hard to get there and it was a long hill to climb. And then the healing nerf. I know that there are some of you who can argue this both ways but the truth of the matter is that with this new strategy in place the only way to do well is to put money into the game. It's no longer free to pay, there's no denying that. The whole point of the game is to acquire covers to play in the newest events and try and be the best and earn the top prizes.. The only way to make this "free to play" is If you don't care about doing that.. and just want a tri-color matching game with marvel characters, might as hell hit up Candy Crush. It'll save you money and won't hang necessary items over your head that you need to "win" in order to do well in the next "event". I played the best that I could at the end of the event but with every match leaving most of my team practically dead I went form rank 8 to 111. I wound up with an M. Hawkeye.

You know the funny thing is that every time I won a new cover I wanted to play more. I put so much time into this game and occasionally money (that's the words the dev's were waiting to hear) to buy a roster slot. I actually felt ok with putting money into the game for that reason. Now that I'm guaranteed to not do well in the next event because I won't have the She-Hulk cover and I'm sure they will continue the healing neuter I feel like I'm going to lose interest in this game. They are moving really fast into forcing players to dump cash into the game and I don't want to get wrangled in like that. I don't mind spending a little once in great while but I refuse to be nickeled and dimed until I'm spending more that 20 bucks a week on this. I'm a console gamer, and games typically cost 60 bucks before DLC (if there is any). I refuse to dump 100's of dollars in a cell phone game that is forcing me to pay to win. Just needed to rant. Chances are, the longer I stop playing the less likely I'll return. NOTHING is worse than coming back to a game that you are so far behind it's impossible to catch up. It happened with Marvel Ultimate Alliance card game, and I will never play that game again. now I feel it's happening here. Shoot. Wish DC comics made a game like this./rant over.

By the way, I get you. I have to wake up at 4-5am to get new covers, and sometimes it is too hard and i miss them. (Almost) Every pve ends at 6am for me, but somehow i decided not to worry about it.

A few times I was first before sleep and ended 100+

Agreed. And if you are just playing for the covers, join a late bracket. Play optimally. The last 1-2 hours is more important than the previous 70 because of rubberbanding. Lastly, understand that you ain't gonna win it all.

Good or bad, she's a new character and the way MPQ is built she will definitely be required for the essential nodes of the next Story Event. Not earning She-Hulk means he won't be able to place well in the next event, thus he is screwed twice over.

in case you forgot. covers are awarded based on placement. someone is always gonna be screwed regardless. or no-one is screwed.

one thing i can agree is the end timing is not favorable to those in the EU.

Yup, which is why I thought they might run the Heroic a 2nd time with the ending being at a more EU friendly time. Unfortunately, D3 don't seem to care about EU players much, so I'm not at all surprised it's not being run again. I fully expect She-Hulk covers to be available in a PvP soon, which will also end at an EU unfriendly time, just to remind us how little they care about us.

Between this change and the continuous refresh change, the devs are pushing people more and more towards shorter, more frequent play sessions. Obviously (to us at least), this is antithetical to placing well in PvP, but since this thread was about the Heroic PvE event that just ended I will ignore that. Unfortunately if you don't have 30 minutes to spend (or sometimes even just 15 will do) every 2.5-3 hours in the last 12 hours of an event (which are the most crucial for racking up as much rubberband as you can), on top of the usual hour or so at the very end, you're mostly out of luck when it comes to PvE. Especially now with the healing change, it is even more critical to put in that time spread out over the last 12 hours instead of all at the very end (which seems almost impossible to do without any healing). I was in your same position, close to the top 10 when the healing change happened, but I was able to play every 3 hours today until the "big push" at the end, and safely finished top 5.

D3 don't care about their players period, otherwise the healing changes would never have gone through...

D3 wants to make sure Team USA screws Team Germany (EU) before the ball is even kicked. (I'm just kidding here!)

I was screwed too because of timezone (EU of course). I went to sleep being first in my bracket with 4 hours to go, and when I woke up I was 95 !!! So I have to be thankful that I at least I won one cover (when I should have qwon at least 2). This is completly unfair, I have been in the top 10 all the event, but becuase of rubberbanding it only matters what you do the last hour.

After I stop playing pve, I feel... liberated. I didn't grind this heroic at all. Just spend my time playing pvp and it feel so much better earning 3-5 covers in 2.5 days.
  • I took the wiser route and just abandoned the event for good, finished #203 for hawkeye but saved all the trouble and time and nerves.

Unless he chooses to drop PVE play for good that is the most hostile anyway for non-mobile players and having played intensively in bursts rather than 1-2 games every 1-2 hours.

Except for that single purpose SH looks pretty MEH and without purchase you wouldn't play her anyway for 2-3 months. I suggest take it easy and regroup by designing your MPQ play for the upcoming era. Maybe best for you is to just drop the whole **** (I do that) or restrict to certain types that still work somewhat.
  • If they are screwing some region, they could at least screw all regions equally, make each event end 1h later than the previous one, rotating 24h in 24 days, so everyone would be screwed equally all the time, end of story.

Or just break game into big timezones i don't care playing with less ppl, but knowing we all have equal chances.

I wish I did what you did, and I might have actually got some sleep over the past three days! But I stupidly devoted a day and a half doing well in the event and I wasn't about to let some healing change get the better of me. Still afterward got six hours sleep, most I had in the past three days leading up to it. And it was well needed.

I'd take a note out of your book and not bother with the events and just get some sleep instead!

I did something similar - got the IM40 cover and said that's enough.
