Why Healing is Gone: It's Boring

  • My perspective feels different than what I've seen on the first few pages. To paint a picture, I'm roughly 175 days in, have easily over $100 maybe even $200, I have only (1) 141 - punisher, working Hulk to 115, and no one else above the 85 threshold. On top of that, my wife now plays and only has (1) 85 MStorn. So, I feel like I sort have seen the game from all angles except all 3* based competition.

I am admittedly frustrated by the change. I understand trying to get past the OBW train, I'm working on a second OBW and was plotting on a third. Why do I use her so much? Her heal. Yes I lover recon, but ultimately the important colors I hog during combat anyways. With a max punisher, her black doesn't even trigger. So she is primarily a healer. It's so important because being honest too many characters hit so hard. We got friggin Thor able to chop 2* to their knees with some green, and a cascade started from either red or yellow. We have Ares who seems to have enough yellow to ruin your day if you aren't a tank - by the second move. That doesn't touch wolverine, darken, etc. so the heal is needed not to just keep me alive during combat, but to ensure that I can play more than one round with my strong team every 6 hours.

On the flip I was a long time member of the MMO City of Heroes and one thing the dev team openly did was let you know a spoon of salt was coming, but it's to balance out this incoming feature or change. I'd feel better about this nerf if that's exactly what was going on, but it's not. It's simply a nerf with no rebalance planned. We aren't getting faster regeneration on health packs. We aren't getting a higher limit on health packs. Let's call it like it is, it's a cash grab.

And that's what pisses me off. I'm all for them trying to get money, lord knows I've shoved the equivalent of at least two console games into a phone game, but in general I've just grown more and more upset with HOW they are trying to monetize the game. Anytime you buy a card, that's anywhere from 1 - 4 dollars, for 1/13th of a random tinykitty character. I'm all for expanding the roster, but they keep chopping those percentages such that you can't even BUY a character *tried to get Falcon, he's only capped at 66 some $40+ later*. It's actually become completely worthless to buy cards, better off buying powers, but at fragging $12 for a single POWER, bump that. Heck during the sale I dropped $50 on HP and used all but the bonus points so far on expanding my alliance.

They want money, it's fine, I get! and I've got no problem paying them fairly, but it's just become a hustle. You want my money again? Take the randomness out of buying cards or increase the percentage for the new character while lowering the percentage for tinny kitty a.wolverine or bullseye. You want me to buy health packs? Never going to happen. You are better off changing them to a storage of "3" instead of 5 and making them purchasable via iso8. Then people might buy ISO 8. If you want more money, be smarter about how you ask for it.

Oh last thing, rebalance some tiny kitty characters if you are going to have wholesale change like this. There is no reason whatsoever that you can't fix the other 2*. Adjustments to Moonstone can be as simple as lower ap for spells, or lower caps yellow for shields to make him annoying. This isn't a huge MMO where you have to balance powers so hard against each other. Just adjust AP requirements and damage scales...except Bagman...he's just not worth anything period.
  • Are we all having fun yet? icon_e_biggrin.gif

Okay... a bit flippant bit it appears most people miss the boredom of healing far more than the liberation of not doing it... at least so far.
  • While it may be a "boring" advantage, it's my only advantage when I'm up against series of 100+ teams and all out of skips. If I'm willing to put in the extra hours to remain competitive, does that really affect anyone else? No one was required to grind out health.
If they can move the goal-posts to favor the money players and those will rosters full of maxed characters, what's the incentive to try and progress anymore? By removing the "grind" you've increased the grind 10-fold. I still have to make the progress except now I can't do it in a meaningfully competitive way. I'll still be grinding the prologue matches except now, it'll be for 20 ISO a shot in the hopes that by week's end, I can level one character up from 60 all the way to 61. By 2016, I should be able to field a B team in Simulator matches (or by Saturday, done with the game altogether).

Well done. It is as clear and concise as when you wrote on the Ragnarok nerf. Whether you believe it or not, it is logical and summarizes the feelings of those promoting the nerf. Thank you icon_e_biggrin.gif

I actually enjoy watching Yolena die repeatedly. It's her punishment for taking a spot in my roster. icon_e_wink.gif
  • My take is from the perspective of a 109 day member with a max 2* roster and no usable 3* (Hulk at 53 or Patch at 51). My standard team was OBW + Thor/Ares but I never saw the point in prologue healing. With heal, I could outwork a 3* roster and place well enough in events to move up (top 50 in last 3 events including 24th in Flame). Safe to say, I will not be that high again for a while.

This move, just like the alliance nerf last week, are protecting the legacy players and greatly increasing the length of time to get to a 3* roster. I had hopes of being able to field 3 3* with 10+ covers by day 200. I no longer have that hope. While I do not intend to leave, this will no longer be my go to game to kill some time as there is no longer a light at the end of the tunnel. As with all changes, I will adapt, realign my expectations, and enjoy the time I spend here but I will no longer obsessively compete for prizes in every event.

These changes do not affect my character usage, as most 2* characters are unusable against high level players, just make me more likely to build a second OBW to compensate.

If there were issues with prologue heal then fix that, don't break the concept. Just like changing the Spiderman covers in the Prologue to remove that loophole back in the day
