Transmogrifying Wand doesn't do what it says, it can't destroy creatures with prevent damage

It says 'destroy your opponent's first creature and create a (sic!) Ox under your opponent's control." It creates the Ox alright, but it fails to destroy the first creature if it has 'prevent damage'. Other (older) 'destroy' cards work perfectly against indestructibles.
Is this the intended behaviour? Then the card text should be changed to 'deal 99999 damage to the opponent's first creature' and I would never even have tried to play such an idiotic card.

    Update: If the opponent's first creature is an ox created by this support and has gained prevent damage, the above applies again, i.e. the ox is not destroyed. To make matters worse, the ox that is already on the battlefield is now reinforced.
    This support needs to be fixed since it is otherwise a valuable tool only for the opponent, not for the player.
