Spending currencies

When a new set comes to the game, if you happen to have hoarded some currencies (pinks and crystals), what do you use first and why?
I have saved enough for a few premium packs and some pinks too, but not sure what to use first when Dominaria gets released. 
is there any advantage of using one before the other that i cant think of?

    Use pinkies first so at least you have 100% chance on NOT getting dupe in first pack. ;

    I crystal away, then pinkie packs. A dupebfrom a pinkie pack or a dupe from a premium pack right after one another makes no difference in terms of a dupe. I do not think the dupe chances change. That’s my opinion.

    I also use crystals, and then pinks ... The cards you pull in the premiums might make you reconsider the way you spend pinks.

    I'll save enough crystals for the next dual, the rest will be directly invested, normally.. 3pps and one elite pack

    There's no right answer of crystals vs jewels first unless you believe drop rate manipulation of elite packs is coded to by dynamic based upon individualized card pools.  I personally doubt that.

    I get premium packs first, personally, as it may effect how many jewel packs I want to get later.  I get premium packs until I have most if not all commons and uncommons (or stores are depleted).  Even then, I consider fresh set packs to be a good investment given higher orb returns.  Orbs being the most desirable currency in the game.

    personally I use pink first, because you never know when an OP planeswalker is about to be released that demands your yellow crystals ;)

    I use pink first. Admittedly, Dominara will be the first time I follow by buying PPs, because I was previously obsessed with getting every Planeswalker. I didn't get over it though, I just managed to get all of them but Tezz1.

    I go with mana jewels and then crystals.

    I spend whatever I can. However I go crystals > orbs. No point in getting that pack opened to find a dupe you just crafted.

    Same here, only way I can guarantee a non-dupe.

    Actually the past two set releases the dupes in the crystal packs give you 50% extra orbs. I do not think the dupes in the pink packs do. Therefore you would want the dupes in the crystal packs over the elite packs.

    Well crafting won't even be available until a month in. So that shouldn't be a problem.

    @Froggy -- This. You get an orb bonus on dupes from crystals -- also there is a bigger pool with crystals so you are less likely to pull dupes there.

    The only sensible thing I've heard here is @Bil 's comment.

    If we assume that crystals are mostly spent buying PP's, it makes sense to exhaust that option first. Then look at the elite pack. If it has mostly mythics you haven't gotten yet, get that pack. If not, just hold the pink until you get an elite pack you like the  look of.

    Ah shoot, the discussion was about the new set. In that case, I guess it's always packs followed by elites.
    Why? Because if there is that chase rare I really really want and I can't get my hands on it from packs, I can always spin the 120 elites.
    Do I actually do that? God no, but it's the only thing that could impact in making one decision or another. Packs are just packs...not much to decide there... other than buy the 5xpack. Always better than the other options. :blush:

    Huh?  I know for a fact I got extra orbs from Elite pack duplicates.  There is no distinction.  The key point being during the period in which you get bonus orbs from the set.  The bonus orbs do go away at the same time the set bonus does (roughly 1 month from release).  You won't get bonuses if you were pulling an elite pack for ixalan cards during the RIX bonus period, for example...

    That same dupe conversion applies to dupes in Elite packs. Yes, I’ve been there... 😒

    The logical answer is, "It depends on the drop rates".  If the drop rates are like RIX when it first released, then you get more expected bang for your buck from using crystals.  If they are more like the IXL drop rates I would recommend buying just a couple of premium packs to pick up most of the C/U cards and then spending a lot of your jewels to chase higher tier cards.  In this scenario you are almost certainly better off buying the 120 jewel elite pack.  (Because the rare drop rate is bad for IXL as well).

    Same orb bonus for Elite-Pack like crystal purchase in the first month. Got a MP dupe from RIX for 3750 orbs.

    Crystals first. If I wind up with a few mythics I may hold off on spending jewels until there's a better rotation
