Pairing goons with characters is ridiculous

How many times have you face rags/ares and a goon feeding them green and red with no green or red on the board? It is getting ridiculous to even try fighting these nodes as they are so obviously made to decimate a roster. I think if they devs are going to do this, the goons should not be able to generate any colors that aren't on the field. Maybe the goons can have a percentage of the colors on the board. Otherwise rags just endless cascades, or moonstone gets gravity warp started for an insane damage before you have a chance to put a strike tile on the board, or like in current pve, magneto gets to do coersive within 2-3 turns and that is end game as there are so many you can't match them all before he does it again.

Oh, just wait. Sounds like this may be your first time with this particular PvE, so wait until the next sub. Multiple battles vs Hood while 2 goons feed him free yellow AP. If turn 3 Twin Pistols sounds like a good time, you'll have a blast. icon_rolleyes.gif

The Hood isn't with any goons in this event.
  • You don't need this node for a decent placing.
The only people who should need to grind these nodes are the ones who compete for top2 and I think it's legitimate to make this placement cost a little HP (for boosts/healthpacks).

You only fight hood in the main on the last day

I defeated this particular node once (using Patch, Hood and Captain America) and don't plan to try again. I was lucky to get a fairly blue board so I could get Cap's stun going on the Don to prevent him from feeding AP. Then Patch could absorb the damage from smaller attacks and regen. Loki is another character that can be good here. Let the AI get their shields out and then convert them to strike tiles.

But no matter what, this one takes a strategy other than just doing damage, and some luck in getting a board that supports your strategy.

So, yes, it is doable, but I don't find it very much fun.

I think if goons could only auto generate ap based on what's actually on the board would help a lot so that you can actually plan an attack, otherwise ai just puts the colors you don't need on the board and auto feeds its characters and then its off to the races with endless cascades!!!

Yeah, and he's not with any goons, at least not any that can feed him yellow.

I find it's worth it to only complete some nodes once and save the health packs, frustration and keep some of your roster alive to just grinding down say a 400 pt node to 100 then to suffer through the 500 pt node that can whipe you any time. I find this strategy especially stress releving when Rags is involed.

Oh thank God. I've never been so happy to be wrong, I thought this was the one where you fight constant hood/muscle/don battles and get hit with 6k+ twin pistols every other turn. *phew!*

Why do they do this? I wiped twice just trying to do it the second time. And even then, it's not certain you'd get the node rewards.

that's the first sub in meet rocket and groot. it was horrible.

though goons feeding mags yellow and blue isn't much better!
  • There's an Ares + Muscle in the main bracket nodes if people are looking for some pain.
  • is it just me or do you think the goons have too much Health. typically in most other games with goons feeding energy to other characters. the goons have relatively weak hp to make them easier to defeat then the actual character they are feeding. In this game they range from same to more then actual characters it makes no sense to go after the goons first, just go after the character. I think the doom bots have the right hp levels for a goon. Now that they have the levels where you fight many rounds they can use these for multiple goons in a fight. 10-15 goons is about right for a fight against characters. Having an old frail don with as much Health as venom is ridiculous. The don deserves respect, not the Health he has currently.

lol. Someone is not liking IM35/C.Mags/Don node are they? Yeah a 3rd or 4th turn Magnatized Projectile from a level 300 C.Mags is pretty much insta death.
  • Stun > attacking

    Board control > attacking

Multiple ways to skin a mongoose my friend.
  • I've actually found that, if you have the characters, downing Mags is the best way to go. Running Hood, Fury and Hulk and letting Hulk tank anytime Mags is about to pop red or blue. Builds Hulk green which in turn helps clear the board. Hood thief is also a big plus.
  • The node is kind of stupid but I actually kind of like it.... hear me out....

It's one of the few nodes that rewards a bit of thought (although you do need the heroes to make use of) cause there are several less used heroes who make it a lot easier than using your standard damage dealers.

For example, Cap Marvel is great to clear protects AND for a stun on C.Mags to try and persuade the Don to pop down his blue instead.
DareDevil the same with his purple+blue and his red, if you get lucky, for bursting down the Don or Mags depending on how you're approaching the node (I ALWAYS take out Mags first).
Loki's good for AP theft and converting those protect tiles. A more commonly used hero admittedly.
I can't believe i'm saying it but Elektra's black has potential for bouncing an ultra-freon beam or MT (which are the real threats).

OFC, sadly, Xforce + 4Thor +Loki/Hood seems to be the safest and easiest way to win (with iso boosts). 9 blue + 10 red = game over, 8 green + 11 black at least means mags down and yellow reset to zero and Thor's yellow clears protects.

Still, as a rule, I think the devs underrate how much more unpleasant 2 heroes + a goon (moreso that 2 goons + hero which a single stunner really helps with) is than 3 heroes and the nodes are often too high of a level to be reasonable.

Loki/Patch works very well in the IM35/Mags/Don node. And yes, the key is killing C.Mags as quick as possible. While Don is the source, he takes too long. I don't have Captain Marvel high enough, but I could see her shining in this one. Plus she can feed red and black all day

I guess she can, as long as you keep feeding her health packs all day.

Which is my problem with garbage nodes like this. It's not meant for the kind of sustained play you need to do if you're grinding at the end.

Don and Muscle are probably meant to be the equivalent of a boss amongst goons. Problem is that they show up way more frequently than a 'boss' ought to. If you look at most HAMMER guys or Doombots and Brotherhood 8 Mutants that aren't Empircists, they're actually pretty fragile. In general I'd say Muscle, Don, Empircist, and Konran are supposed to be the 'boss' goon of their respective type which is fine but some of these nodes seem to be designed where every other goon is a 'boss' type.
