Pairing goons with characters is ridiculous

One of the biggest complaints about Puzzle Quest is the RNG (random number generator) creating cascades. There have been conspiracy theories, but we all know deep inside that sometimes you roll a yahtzee, or in this case the computer does. It's match 3, so we deal with it.

Now the developers make the game even more RNG by feeding characters AP that they might use if you are unlucky, or the goon may use if you are lucky. Now we are flipping coins too? Will you get wrecked by CMags being fed blue and yellow? Flip the coin to decide your fate, sir! I like a challenge, but I don't consider flipping a heads or tails a challenge.

Goons should have their own AP pool.

But that's the point of goons: Do the work for their masters. Otherwise, what's the point in having hired goons?

AP boosts are kind of like the heroic version of hired goons.
  • It's different and special challenge with it. I have no problem with it as long as players are proportionally facing the same challenge. If Hood is going to have and use 15 yellow in 4 turns against me and kill one of my characters, then everyone should proporionally face the same thing. If Hood is going to kill my max hulk on turn 4, then he should kill a 2* roster's Ares on turn 4 as well.
  • yes i agree it is no challenge but kind of ****

I think it's a fair trade off since they can't move the board, but that in itself isn't always a benefit when the board is stale and there are CD tiles you just can't get matching colors to... the AI has cleared more of their own CD tiles than I have on many battles.

What I object to is certain Low Cost attacks being fed by goons of their color, Rags Red & Green (6 each) and Ares Green (5), Daken Blue (5), Venom Purple (4 or 7 depending on level).

When boosted, the damage is ludicrous for the low AP cost by itself, even worse when half the cost is supplemented in 1 turn by goons. If they match the color, 1 turn spams the attack, cascade turns to a nice pool of AP that lasts the rest of the match with multiple specials every turn. If they don't match, 2 turns and they can throw their attack without even matching a single color... instead they throw out a TU that was hand picked to piss you off, lol.

I can't count the number of times I've taken a beating while gathering AP to do a nice attack to turn the tide and immediately after I gain the AP needed and my color is flashing for my next turn... BAM! suddenly a Lethal Recon out of nowhere, and back to having to do 2 more matches... argh. Or on Squirrel Girl PVE, I finally save up enough to drop 3 protect tiles and the very next turn comes a Ms Marvel TU to take them away. I think the AI has been tweaked to be a little bit smarter at TU use, I don't feel like they use it as soon as its available... I think they use TU for the situation in PVE when it works best, unlike the regular AP attacks that are typically spent as soon as they are earned. Though lately I've had what felt like a last ditch effort to win by the AI when I'm about to do a finishing AOE attack, everyone suddenly unleashes all of their Specials and nearly kill my AOE person (Storm, Thor, etc) before I wipe them forcing me to use a Health Pack afterwards that I wouldn't have needed if they didn't do their Hail Mary attack cascade.
