What is meant by farming ISO?

Sorry for the newbieish question, but what is meant by farming ISO and how is this accomplished? All I ever get by replaying missions is 20 ISO. That takes forever to make any headway in leveling up my characters.

    Playing a PVP or the SHIELD tournament just to get ISO.

    So, don't worry about progression. Just find the eaiest team to beat and beat them withouth using boosts. Often you tank your rating to get easier opponents.
