I had to chime in here. I'm a new player of about 5 months and even I could come up with a better deck than whatever Lilliana Vess's deck was supposed to be. A complete and utter garbage slow, mana hungry deck against a fast buffing weenie deck. Do the designers even play this game? It seriously looks like somebody clicked some cards at random and called it a day.

I've tried the Liliana deck at least 10 times, and I cannot win lol

No creature kill in that Jace deck now, not sure how you're supposed to deal with the Dread in Liliana's deck...

...Then again Liliana's Dread just died for no reason that I can determine in the game I just played...

OK great now I'm fighting against Garruk with Chandra, all my creature kill is damaged based, and he has a Timber Protector with prevent damage.

Ysee the thing about PvE is that what people are looking for there is a curated experience. Just throwing 10 cards at random into 2 decks is unlikely to create interesting synergies, and the experience is therefore likely to be unsatisfying.

Absurd once again. If they truly don't want to make the slightest effort to create interesting decks and matchups between PWs, they didn't even choose the pairings properly because they didn't even look at the decks. There are two very simple options: don't create these absurd events at all, or add a random deck-building button every time you log to play into this event. Either option is better than this nonsense.

I barely made it through Lorwyn 5.

But I have questions about Chandra vs. Garruk!

The thing is, if you play Chandra, Garruk has a huge advantage—he plays an immortal Protector, meaning he has Reach and invulnerability. It's IMPOSSIBLE to beat a game like that with Chandra, as long as his immortal and doesn't let all the creatures through.
I get the impression that Chandra's design is based on the SPEED of mana replenishment and getting creatures onto the battlefield early before Garruk plays the immortal, otherwise you lose.

I tried a few times because Garruk plays the immortal every now and then and always has the same creature in his hand, but after six tries, I was able to get through quickly, deal enough damage to the creatures, and fulfill a specific loyalty requirement. And I barely closed it.

The question remains: have you even tried it against Garruk with an immortal creature?!
People have asked more than once to allow players to CHOOSE their own deck, so they can banish or destroy creatures to circumvent his immortality.
And then there wouldn't be any questions now. Although I still managed to beat Lorwyn 5...

@Magic:PQ Support Team I feel like there must be something fundamentally wrong with me because I really want to build my own deck in a deck-building game. Where is this disconnect coming from?

I just completed Chandra stage (purely by luck).
In my case, I needed RNG for Wild Ricochet to copy Lignify so that I can bypass Timber Protector by nullifying its Reach ability.
This is just so dumb and prove the argument that the devs never tested the event by themselves.

Here's an other example of the decks not being designed to go with the event: Chandra vs. Garruk. If Garruk casts Timber Protector you just lose. Chandra has NOTHING to counter/remove the card and you can no longer attack.

Lignify can be taken from the opponent by a red spell in your deck (forgot the name). It's not an autoquit like the Cat mythic was in Ajani's deck before.

I appreciate you revamping this event. It's still frustrating and unplayable once you get to a certain point, but with better walkers and cards to be frustrated with.

Going forward, there are a few tweaks which would make this sort of event playable and even fun.

    • LET US EDIT THE DECKS. It's fine to start with a preconstructed deck which includes mythics from the new set, but LET US EDIT THE DECKS. Wild Ricochet is a useless card, and completely unplayable. Or at least, it's extremely overcosted. It costs 15 mana to maybe copy a spell which is in the opponent's hand, and then you still have to gain enough mana to cast the spell.

There are already cards in Standard which are way better than this. For example, Decadent Dragon's flip side will steal two of your opponent's cards for 6 mana. Mindleech Mass is 17 mana for a 6/6 creature which forces your opponent to discard every turn, copies that card and then gives it full mana, every turn.

Wild Ricochet should maybe cost 3 or 4 mana, tops, and even then it would be generally unplayable. For 15, you should be able to look at your opponent's hand, choose any card from it (not just spells), steal that card and then give it full mana.

    • CHANGE THE OPPONENT - the main problem with the Chandra deck is that it always faces Garruk, and it can't beat Garruk once the indestructible treefolk come on board. Maybe she would fare better if the opponent was one of the other walkers. Or even if it was a Chandra vs Chandra mirror match.

    • HAVE REALISTIC SECONDARY GOALS OR NO SECONDARY GOALS - actually playtest the decks 5 or 10 times, and note how many times you actually activate loyalty abilities or have cards in your graveyard or whatever. Then make the secondary goal something you actually do at least 50% of the time or so. Don't just randomly generate unattainable goals.

I do like the fact that your walker doesn't take damage when you quit the game, so it is possible to keep exiting Chandra until you have a playable opening hand. But her opening hand is only playable maybe 1 time in 20.

Presumably, the purpose of this sort of event should be to showcase Planeswalkers we don't have, and cards we don't have, and to have such a fun experience with them that we want to obtain those walkers and cards. As it is, I never want to see any of these walkers ever again. They might even be good, but I can't tell because they'd only be good if I could play them with cards I want to play with. Some of the individual cards are good, and worth crafting / opening packs trying to obtain. But the walkers are just frustrating.

It would be nice if it were possible to play test every walker which is currently being offered in the store. Start with the expert deck and let us edit it, facing a different walker which is also being offered, playing the expert deck which comes with the walker.

It would also be nice, when you're selling walkers, to be able to see what the walker looks like at level 60 (maybe toggling something). I don't really care what the walker looks like at level 1, and I don't want to search the internet a dozen times each week to find out.
