Didn't Gauntlet also not let you use a character again if they went down? I may be misremembering, it has been many rides since we last saw it

I remember something like that but it wasn't Gauntlet.

They used to try all kinds of weird stuff. Some of it worked and some of it was awful, but I really do miss when they took chances.

So far the tower seems like it’s more of a mode for new players, to get them some more extra resources at their level.

The Tower is the old Gauntlet PvE event that's hasn't been run for years now. Players have routinely asked for it to be run again and it appears they are running it during anniversary.

The nodes simply increase in power (mine started at 330 and are currently 480 and based on how fast they increase it should top out around 700 for me which is roughly double my top characters at 370).

I’m not seeing a comparison to the old gauntlet, but maybe I'm remembering poorly. (Which is a possibly with my TBI history)

Wasn't it nodes with branching lines and various themes? I remember it being more involved...I think.

The tower is just a couple nodes getting a little higher level each day.

How much different is this run of it compared to the past ones?

Well, the things that made the old gauntlet so hard are no longer issues. 5 stars didn't exist and neither did champions. A 270 4 star was the strongest thing in the game.

Also, mirror matches didn't used to be allowed in pve so if the enemy team has hulkbuster, you couldn't bring hulkbuster.

The difficult levels of the gauntlet were the best characters in the game, so then you couldn't use those characters, and at much higher levels than were possible for you. Deadpool was usually on the enemy team too so you couldn't bring your own dp or dp tu and just use whales.

Now, even at level 800 you can just kang them, or multiple man insta win, or polaris/mthor them.

    All this!

Also Gauntlet was a really long event. Since it replaced an entire PvE, you were meant to do it a little at a time. I think there were 3 subs of 20 fights each?

There were 3 subs and each sub had one branch that had a required character (1st sub was 2 star, 2nd sub was 3 star and 3rd sub was 4 star) that you needed on your team to do the 3-4 fights in that branch.

Since we haven't finished the tower yet, we don't know what they might do in later battles. So far the enemies have been mostly 2 and 3 stars. It's possible the later parts of the tower have 4s and 5s, especially if they make meta teams to fight. It's possible (but unlikely until we get there) that later AI teams could also employ supports and maybe the final couple of nodes could even be run like boss events where the AI team is immune to stun/away/airborne. If that last node was a level 700 team with Frankie loaded with Green supports with stun/away/airborne immunity it would be very challenging (esp if one of the others on the team was Chasm).

I'm pretty certain I played The Gauntlet once but my roster would have been nothing so doubt I got far. So far the Ski Slope Tower has been...there. I think I might have forgotten about it yesterday so off to check now.

Edit: Ooops, it turns out I forgot about this thing for days!

Edit edit: It looked like they were using this thing to show off some of the "newer" characters as enemies like Spider-Crawler and Hellcow which is a fine idea but now I am fighting Mohawk Storm, Ragnarok and 3* Loki. sigh

it was the no mirroring chars that made gauntlet tough. Alot of times, the spur branches featured "meta" class chars that you had to figure out a gadget counter.

basically imagine Chasm matches, but you coudn't counter with your own chasm.

imagine if you had to counter Jean, IMHB, hood in that early 4* era
