I would have expected him to take damage at the cap, he took 0 damage?

Oh for sure, they definitely would know that already. But I'd be surprised if being vague and withholding that information is going to result in players spending big on anniversary, and then cracking open their wallets to spend big on 6-stars in the event they've used up all their resources. The bean counters can hope for that, but it would be a pipe dream.Agreed. I think they want you to at least look at the new toys. If they told you the plans you might just go ahead and walk away, without taking it for a test drive.
I see a lot of people walking away from this if they haven’t already. We’ll see as time goes by.

5* drove a lot of players away. The new tier was really expensive and hard to get and completely obliterated anything the long-term players had access to. Surfer alone could easily solo the best 3 4*, and there were a few trick teams that could beat him but it wasn't easy. When OML and Phoenix showed up, the problem got even worse. Whales who spent thousands of dollars in a sitting became completely unbeatable and could basically do whatever they wanted in game.
A lot of top tier competitive players walked away because they couldn't compete anymore and couldn't or wouldn't spend to win. The others had to wait months until they could catch up. I could absolutely see something similar happening with this.
Of course, the revenue injected by the new class of whales (many of whom were brand new players at that time, btw) extended the game's life for years and is most likely the reason it's still around today. Those players created buy clubs and that entire subculture.

Here’s an idea the devs haven’t thought of that might invigorate this game. Instead of creating 6* level characters, why not create NEW CAMPAIGNS/STORIES to make this game even better. Week after week we keep playing the same damn campaigns, which kind of makes this game monotonous. It’s the same boring campaign every time. The devs haven’t thought made new boss campaigns, but that’s it. It would be nice if they created something new other than creating ways to siphon money away from us off cheap gimmicks like 6* characters or ascending old ones. With new stories coming out, that would certainly keep interest in the game in my opinion if they really cared about MPQ. Just a thought.

Well they did say that "Tower Mode" would start in the middle of the month along with the new season. That should be the start of more I'd hope...

Acquisition cadence for 6* sucks. A lot of us are needing something positive to happen.

I like that 6* are only given as shards and not covers. Means I don't have to roster one until I'm ready.

I will point out that while some people absolutely do read the flavor texts/nodes/cut scenes, many people don't and just treat any PVE as just a bag of nodes to be done as quickly as possible. Heck, I'd tend to think the majority of people are like that, to be honest. I used to read them, but I really don't anymore, so I'd consider myself somewhere in the middle.
Just saying that this may be appealing to some, to many people (possibly even most of the player base,) it is a very small incentive.

I used to read them all, but since I've seen them a million times I don't bother any more.
Except "Ghak, Gurgle". Love that line

I agree with that I and others don’t read them anymore, but when an old campaign/story concerning Wolverine and S.H.I.E.L.D. agents came back…only once…I did read and play along enthusiastically. The stories are part of the fun. Yes, when they get old, no one bothers, but it would still be nice to get not just new stories, but new stories related to the new characters they put out. Marvel is so rich on stories to adapt from, but today’s companies…whether gaming or Disney itself…don’t really bother adapting those stories, which is why most of us are into Marvel comics in the first place. Seems like such a waste not to do it. That’s just my perspective on it.

There are other ways to freshen them up. Different opponents for example.

I've never read any of them. I've been playing this game for 12 years and I couldn't tell you what any of the PVE story lines are about.

Dunno how long you've been around but the early PvEs all actually told a coherent story that progressed event by event. They were meant to run in a certain order (now it's just random), and a bunch of them have been retired by now, but it was definitely a thing.

I've been around since about a month after the game launched, but I was very casual in the beginning. I only logged in every day to get my daily reward and mostly just played a few easy nodes in PVE or in the prologue. It wasn't until the deadpool daily came around and there was an actual real way to earn 3* covers that I started playing more.

The game was called Marvel Puzzle Quest: Dark Reign back then and the idea was that they'd eventually implement the entire Dark Reign storyline from the comics. That's why the old PvEs were like 95% Dark Avengers. I'm not super familiar with the comics so I'm not sure how far they ended up getting, then at some point they just sorta gave up.

My favorite is the mom diss ('its colder than your mom') that Juggs gives to Iron Man in Unstable ISO8. They'd never be allowed to put a mom diss/joke in any new PVE.
