the fact we're having to put up with so much **** lately surely means we deserve little treats, even unintentional ones!

Even worse, if the Devs decide we are all a bunch of untrustworthy low lifes intent on exploiting their game we might get nothing in future. Losing 750 shards for a new 5 * character would be a massive blow to me.

Fortunately for us, that's a bad business practice. Low life players are are still customers / advertisers, even if they don't spend and just talk about the game or play it in front of friends.

If they were going to decide this, they'd have decided it a long time ago.
These players view what they're doing as striking a blow for freedom against the evil developers, not cheating, and the attitude has been the same for 10+ years. We heard the same things when players were rerolling tokens, hacking resources, and countless other exploits over the years.
The devs should expect that players will find loopholes and take advantage of them (and then get angry about being called out!), because they always have. It's a very small group doing this sort of thing anyway, and they will never, ever quit.

This really, really depends. If someone is only talking about the game to tell others how awful it is, that's not very helpful!

So people are cheating again. How is the game ever getting fixed whilst nonsense like this is going on.If they stopped putting out a completely buggy product they could probably worry less about exploits. But instead of testing and then releasing they decided to use the YOLO method. Can't complain that folks are using bug when they didn't bother to do even rudimentary testing.

The same sorts of players have been exploiting these kinds of bugs (and justifying it in various ways) for 10+ years. Unity has just created a lot more bugs for them to exploit.

The entire thread is so weird. Like 2 people expressed some very mild discomfort with a hypothetical future character (seriously, go back and read what they said) and now there's this several-day, increasingly aggressive ongoing dogpile going "suck it up snowflake!"Why do people get so worked up about any of this? If somebody is uncomfortable let them be uncomfortable. There's no petition campaign, and nobody is holding protests.
I get that point of view. But by discussing discomfort openly, it adds understanding on all sides and that's not a bad thing. It's not a competition or an attempt to convert someone to your point of view, just learning about how other people think.
I think this would hold a lot more weight if anyone was trying to understand why those one or two people were uncomfortable, instead of continuously yelling that they're wussy, whiny victims who should just shut up.
I think it would happen a lot more if people didn't massively exaggerate opposing opinions.
Ah, I'm sorry. Do you mean folks like the poster I quoted above, who's obviously seriously trying to understand another's viewpoint and not just dismissing them as whiny victims?
It's a game. It's not real.

Nope - that's another example of someone massively exaggerating an opposing opinion.
Lol. Just a game

I think it’s slightly more nuanced this times and it depends on the bug.
It is okay and not an exploit to intentionally lose PvP games to get below 375 points and start to get seeds again. It allows for endless 1* and 2* cover farming for 1000s of covers. Devs have confirmed this is fine.
But it’s not okay and considered an exploit to close the game after each match so that the next game gives you a new token. Devs have said that getting 100s of tokens this way is an egregious exploit.
They’re not that different to me to be honest. I have done both. One was threatened with a ban, the other was allowed. How would we know this?
Also: If you normally play on two devices daily, and the daily quests reset when you switch between devices, should you not start the quests again because it’s a bug? Or stop with your play style and no longer switch devices? When does it become an exploit and when is it okay?
Sure, doing it so much that you can farm covers is clearly a problem. But when someone posts about this bug on the forum, there is zero dev response about it. How would we know?
All this to say that there is a certain responsibility from the developers as well about communicating and setting boundaries. The above example, at least to me, make clear it’s not always players intentionally abusing the game. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me either, and that’s fine.

Personally I don't think this one is that complicated.
I think it is firmly established that the Devs provide us with the opportunity to earn 750 5* shards per each new release. This has been the normal state of things for years at least. I would therefore suggest that players who have been playing for at least that long know and understand this is what the situation is or should be. Now, if a player found themselves in a situation where they could in fact obtain a complete new 5* before release due to an abnormal situation in the game, they would in my estimation have 3 options:
1.) Don't replay the quests, especially given a similar situation recently was classified by the Devs as a rollback worthy exploit.
2.) Ask the Devs - report the issue and then see whether the Devs give the go ahead
3.) Replay the Quests in the knowledge they are gaining access to a minimum 8-9 x the usual rewards.I assume only one of those options would come with any negative possibilities.
We have to also assume that this thread date was the earliest opportunity the Devs had to act on the exploit - we don't know if it was reported to them or if they noticed unusual account activity. Obviously the exploit has been shared online previous to this post, the Season quest exploit also. That players are gleefully displaying their ill gotten gains is probably a bit silly - reminds me a bit of the scene in Goodfellas where Robert De Nero pulls off the massive heist but warns people not to start splashing the cash until things settle down but then the gangsters start turning up at the bar with brand new pink cars and fur coats for their girlfriends!

Fair enough. Has there been any more updates since 12th August? I honestly don't know. If not they were slow to close the loophole so they have some blame but it doesn't take away from the general point that players have a choice in these matters AND they have already had warnings due to prior behaviour. And no, I don't have a burger to give away from inside my bank. Only hot dogs.

I definitely would not see that coming.

There's an obvious difference between someone being affected by a bug and someone abusing a bug. Years ago, there was a bug that allowed you to reroll tokens, if you put your phone in airplane mode. Some players exploited this to get a 5* of their choice every time they opened a token.
The developers eventually fixed the bug and punished the players using it. Notably, they did not punish every single person who had ever opened a token on an airplane, because that would be stupid. They punished the players who spent hours every day rerolling thousands of tokens.
In this case, yes, quests reset for some people and they completed them again, maybe more than once! I don't think anyone cares about that, certainly not me. But if someone noticed the resetting and then spent a couple entire days farming a 550 Zemo, that's cheating. The difference is really clear and I don't think it's complicated.

Basically, if somebody wants to have a debate about where the line should be drawn between players who are affected by a bug and players exploiting it, that's a valid question that's really difficult to figure out, and I'm glad I'm not the one responsible for it.
Is it 10 times? 100? 100,000? I have no idea. I assume the devs can track it and will look at the data. If they decide to punish players who did it a handful of times (they won't), then obviously that's wrong and I'd say it.
But if your argument is that it's hard to draw the line, so there shouldn't be a line at all, then I think that's pretty ridiculous.

Yeah ... even if you're able to visualize your usage data, it can be really, really hard to identify the high-side outliers and draw a line between normal and exploitative behavior.
