I'm just going to throw in an analogy here which people can choose to take or leave. If I'm walking past my bank, and my bank has been sending me weird letters and freezing my cards every so often, do I have the right to walk in to the branch and lift £1000 out of an open drawer because they left it open? Would people think it was reasonable for the inconvenience?
I'm with @entrailbucket on this - that digital good might effectively be free (as there is no direct cost to the devs), but it ripples throughout the game economy and makes some people "richer" through what is basically cheating.
OK I'll give you a variation of your analogy.
Your bank have just updated their systems, they are aware that it isn't perfect but push it out anyway
You rock up to the atm and put your card in and it rejects it but dispenses £50 note, you think it's a one off so you put the card in again and it does the same, you are 100 quid up, you decide you are a Saint and go into the bank and inform them. They then say "oh is it? Its been like that for over a month but we haven't done anything about it yet"Who is at fault?
One thing I can't understand is people who already have a good number of characters at 550 (I don't even have one at 500) are saying I don't want this to effect my extraordinarily rare circumstance.

I mean, the bank thing has happened in real life. In this case, if you hit the broken ATM 500 times, walked away and didn't say anything, you would go to jail. It doesn't matter who screwed up, you stole the money.
If the bank mistakenly deposits a million dollars in your account and you spend it, that's fraud and you'd go to jail. It's pretty clear cut and not at all controversial.

Got it. Awful gameplay caused by the way too soon rollout of the new engine without enough testing is fine. CS not answering tickets for months at a time, absolutely okay. But any bug that might benefit users is an exploit. Seems like you folks really just want us all uninstall this game lately. It doesn't affect "users" though. It affects a presumably small group of players who are repeatedly force closing the app to farm hundreds of extra tokens. That's absolutely an exploit.
If they gave 300 tokens to everybody in error that's a completely different thing. This isn't players getting one over on the devs, it's players getting one over on other players.
How is this getting one over on other players? You can only get a character to 550. There is no "over" 550 that I know of at this time. So if someone is farming tokens, is this really affecting us at a high level in PVE or PVP? And, if so, shame on the devs for letting it even get into the wild.
Personally, I haven't upgraded yet and refuse to do so until the last minute. But everything about it seems borked and really don't see how anyone should be punished for how bad it is.
Of course it is. You're getting stuff that other players didn't get.
If the resetter gets to keep his 5000 tokens, then they should give 5000 tokens to me too. I'd be fine with that!
One could argue the time they invested was earning those tokens. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but gifting you tokens that people had to spend their time on, to me, does not add up.
I imagine there are a lot of people who learned about this bug that aren't on forums etc. who could get punished by this threat, without knowing it existed.
I am honestly perplexed that they released with this bug, but threatening people does kinda feel like the wrong approach, at least to me. The vocal community is already quite unhappy, and this is clearly making it worse. If it were me, I probably would have gone with a "we are aware of X thing, please don't exploit it, and we'll reward you for your troubles".
Whatever the case, what an interesting ride.
They should clarify what they mean by "egregious."
I have heard about players restarting the game hundreds (plural) of times in a row to get extra tokens. If you're sitting there for hours slamming the reset button you know what you're doing, you don't deserve it, you haven't "earned" anything and you should absolutely get rolled back or boxed or whatever.
If the game crashed on you 3 times and you got extra tokens, or you restart and then do a few fights to avoid skip tax, that is OBVIOUSLY not the same thing, and of course they're not going to punish you because you got some extra stuff for what's objectively normal play.
If I can figure this out, surely everyone can, but everyone is losing their minds over the new engine right now and anything that's not "the developers are literally Satan" isn't getting very much traction, so here we are.
I do not doubt that there are folks who have gotten thousands of tokens. There are folks who grind PvP for hundreds of matches every PvP. I don't doubt that they just started resetting between each match, which might cut their match output by 10 or 20 matches but yield extra tokens. Those folks were already farming 1* and 2 * covers so they were already getting more than someone who didn't farm would get.
I just don't care if they do. The blame here shouldn't be on the users when it is a bug created by the developer rushing to put out the new engine without proper testing. They are surely feeling pressure from above from when they pissed off the buy clubs which cut into their revenue. I'm sure they needed to have this out for the bean counters.
But to come at it from this angle with this tone at a player base that is already pretty riled up for good reason is pants on head stupid on their part.
They knew which accounts were over grinding. They never said boo to those folks until THEY screwed up. Those folks are just doing what they always did.
Lots of cheaters take advantage of loopholes left in the game by the developers. Do you care if other players use the one hit ko hacks in PvP? Is it ok for players to hack resource files to get infinite HP?
Is it their fault for using a trainer program or the devs' fault for not stopping them?
Both of those exploits require external things happening. This bug is literally just open and close the app some of which is being forced by the other bugs they introduced. It is a very different situation.
Those other situations you are referencing require malice and forethought on the user end. This one is just as simple as opening and closing the app. Which again is sometimes happening because of how poorly they rolled it out.
Sitting in front of your computer force closing the game every few seconds for hours at a time requires malice and forethought.
In my case the devs response has annoyed me enough that I'm actually behind where I would usually be now. Probably just going to go for 50 wins and then shield out. Partly because the lag makes this almost unplayable and partly because of the tone they came out with in this announcement. Feels gross.
That'll show 'em! Keep playing, just play like a top .1% player instead of a top .01% player!
If people actually walk away from the game they'll change stuff. If you keep playing to get back at them or something, you're only helping these evil devs out.
I'm not trying to make a stand. I'm just annoyed. And I doubt I'm the only one. We are both in the .01%. Anyone who is "exploiting" this bug is also in the top .01%. So since it is such a tiny group it is meaningless, right?
You can white knight for them all day, not going to change my opinion that this was a really **** way to address this. Or that the entire rollout has been poorly handled.

I think your analogy is too simplistic. The weird letters are the Unity bugs. Ok I can relate to that. You relate getting in line at the bank to dealing with the bugs. In the current real world of MPQ that often means force quitting. But then I disagree with your analogy. You relate the next step as the user taking £1000 from a drawer. I think a better analogy is that someone is putting £1000 into my pocket when I get in line. I didn’t ask to have to deal with the letter. I just had to deal with it. And I didn’t take the money. It was given to me when I was forced to deal with the letter. I think that is a more accurate comparison to what is happening right now.
Edited for grammatical error.
I get what you're saying - but there's someone putting some cash in your pocket by accident (which is what resetting the game legitimately does) and then there's grabbing it and putting it in your pocket by the fistful.

Is it really white knighting for the devs if I hate them too, but hate every single player more than them?
Yeah, this rollout isn't great, and they did a bad job communicating this thing. Heck, they didn't even bother to post it on the forum! They sent this warning to their secret chat room first.
But I'm not going to white knight for players using an exploit to try to get ahead of me either, which is what you people all seem to be doing. If these players are Robin Hood or whatever then why am I not getting a share of what they took?

The only problem with this here is by no fault of my own, I'll be getting extra tokens. Fan favourites are fan favourites because we always play them.
my play style is broken up between bathroom visits. 9 times out of 10 when I play it has to reload.
Now I'm at risk of losing my progress, by playing the game in it's normal way.
That sucks.
if they wanted to be clearer "we understand people may get 10-15 extra tokens a day through normal play. we're looking for those that get 10000s."
then I would feel more secure. now I'm worried I'm using the wrong characters. that's an absolutely terrible way to ring in a buggy mess of a version of the game.
10 -
What's stopping you?
If this game is so important to you I recommend you don't sleep for the next 3 days .
Got to stay competitive with the 1%If a company releases a product which they know has a defect and have known about said defect can't then go you can't use it that way.

@Omegased said:
9 times out of 10 when I play it has to reload.Seriously, this. On android, if I hit the back button too many times? It was to reload. Switch to a different app? Reload. Screen off and turn it back on? Reload. The only time it stays open is if I'm in the middle of a battle. But usually when I'm in between battles and do anything else with my phone, reload.
None of my other apps do this. Just this one. Oh, and now, it doesn't even run right.
Part of the frustration is also that, instead of improving other things in the game, the new devs have seemingly focused soooo much time and energy into this new engine. And now...it's made the game worse. There's no going back to the old engine. If they don't fix all these bugs soon, they will have killed the game with this decision that led to a broken update.
6 -
I haven't noticed anything free tokens... But I haven't been looking either.
My saved teams are all deleted though. Can that get rolled back so I don't need to recreate them all?
Joke, obviously... I'm not going to ask what the exploit is and will just wait it out.

I'd like some compensation in the form of hp for all the health packs I had to spend it on because of supports in lighting rounds. Another bcs **** up. But a **** up in their favor so of course I won't get jack. So I'll EXPLOIT this as I see fit.
And @entrailbucket, what makes you think your entitled to anything I put in the work for that you didn't? Put in the work and earn it.

How about closing the game when it's going to cost me 10iso to skip and then reopening to skip some more until I find a more favorable team to battle? You consider that malicious?
Who cares what I think?
It's kind of hilarious that the devs tossed this bomb and ran away, but that pretty much fits their MO anyway. Ask them.

I'd like some compensation in the form of hp for all the health packs I had to spend it on because of supports in lighting rounds. Another bcs **** up. But a **** up in their favor so of course I won't get jack. So I'll EXPLOIT this as I see fit.And @entrailbucket, what makes you think your entitled to anything I put in the work for that you didn't? Put in the work and earn it.
How is resetting the game every 2 seconds "work?"
You know exactly what I mean. Go troll someplace else.
I promise you that I have absolutely no idea what you mean.

I’m not trying to defend the second person. Just the first person.Me too! Why is that controversial at all?
I don’t think I’ve been at odds with you about this? Other things in the past yes, but not this. lol
I will say that I probably don’t feel as strongly as you against those people. I guess I’m indifferent towards them. I do understand and respect your viewpoint. I just don’t feel strongly about the issue I guess. I can’t personally imagine spending many consecutive hours mindlessly banging the same node and resetting the game over and over, but whatever floats someone’s boat. I do also feel that dev time would be better spent actually fixing this bug (and all the others) than using analytic tools to catch the exploiters.
