Got it. Awful gameplay caused by the way too soon rollout of the new engine without enough testing is fine. CS not answering tickets for months at a time, absolutely okay. But any bug that might benefit users is an exploit. Seems like you folks really just want us all uninstall this game lately. It doesn't affect "users" though. It affects a presumably small group of players who are repeatedly force closing the app to farm hundreds of extra tokens. That's absolutely an exploit.
If they gave 300 tokens to everybody in error that's a completely different thing. This isn't players getting one over on the devs, it's players getting one over on other players.
How is this getting one over on other players? You can only get a character to 550. There is no "over" 550 that I know of at this time. So if someone is farming tokens, is this really affecting us at a high level in PVE or PVP? And, if so, shame on the devs for letting it even get into the wild.
Personally, I haven't upgraded yet and refuse to do so until the last minute. But everything about it seems borked and really don't see how anyone should be punished for how bad it is.
Of course it is. You're getting stuff that other players didn't get.
If the resetter gets to keep his 5000 tokens, then they should give 5000 tokens to me too. I'd be fine with that!

One could argue the time they invested was earning those tokens. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but gifting you tokens that people had to spend their time on, to me, does not add up.
I imagine there are a lot of people who learned about this bug that aren't on forums etc. who could get punished by this threat, without knowing it existed.
I am honestly perplexed that they released with this bug, but threatening people does kinda feel like the wrong approach, at least to me. The vocal community is already quite unhappy, and this is clearly making it worse. If it were me, I probably would have gone with a "we are aware of X thing, please don't exploit it, and we'll reward you for your troubles".
Whatever the case, what an interesting ride.

This is why QA testing is so important. The key of course is to implement actual fixes based on what they were seeing in the beta.
Worth observing this was the audited financial guidance statement. I don't think think these results are gonna hold up. I think we are just past the 24hr mark for Global Unity day. I wonder if we make it to hr 48

They should clarify what they mean by "egregious."
I have heard about players restarting the game hundreds (plural) of times in a row to get extra tokens. If you're sitting there for hours slamming the reset button you know what you're doing, you don't deserve it, you haven't "earned" anything and you should absolutely get rolled back or boxed or whatever.
If the game crashed on you 3 times and you got extra tokens, or you restart and then do a few fights to avoid skip tax, that is OBVIOUSLY not the same thing, and of course they're not going to punish you because you got some extra stuff for what's objectively normal play.
If I can figure this out, surely everyone can, but everyone is losing their minds over the new engine right now and anything that's not "the developers are literally Satan" isn't getting very much traction, so here we are.

I guess you and I see it differently. You keep throwing out "5000 tokens" like that is a known number. We actually have no idea what the number is as they won't tell us.
But even if it is 5000 tokens, how does it actually hurt us as a player if someone gets that. Is there one more person in the 550 realm? Two? A thousand? I don't think it hurts us at all, but you do.

We're aware of the bug that's allowing for multiple daily play tokens to be earned and want to send a reminder that exploiting it is something we'd highly recommend you try not to take advantage of.
This isn't part of regular gameplay and while there are some instances such as crashes that cause the bug to happen, any egregious farming of the exploit is easily trackable and will result in accounts getting rolled back.Ah naw son, that's not how this works. The company releases a broken engine and its the player bases' fault? This ranks right up there with the "You're supposed to lose!" comment from years past.
The extra tokens ARE part of regular gameplay! My game just hung on my iPhone and I had to force close the game by swiping up, so guess what, extra tokens coming my way! Now is that an exploit or a developer problem? Also, this game is a memory hog, so it gets automatically closed by my phone after a while running on background, or if I open another big app. So to play, I will get extra tokens.
Curious what "egregious" farming would even look like. And for a voice of the publisher to basically threaten the player base is a horrible look. Normally I laugh at the "I'm leaving the game!!!!!" posts because of some small change, but for the first time in nearly 11 years of playing, this post (and the horrible engine on iOS) is making me seriously think about quitting.
Sheesh.

We run in somewhat different circles. I've heard a few things.
The entire game is a competition. Anything you get that I don't get moves you closer to competing with me.
Does it matter? Maybe! If somebody uses their ill-gotten gains to max out, say, Victor Mancha, and uses him to beat me in PvP while he's boosted (during a week when I don't have him and they do), then yes, that's directly impacting me.

What an insane take.
There's 100s of bugs that we have to limp thru every minute of this new engine. Not one thing is on par with the previous one. Every possible part of the game is broken, and you focus on one thing that benefits.
What an absolute over reaction.
I really can't believe what I'm reading. Release something less broken please.
10 -
I just want to know who decided to let this go live and why. And I'm now curious how much of this new engine was coded by Copilot or some other large language model chatbot. Because a lot of the current state of things is feeling strangely devoid of human attention. Like, it was fed the old engine and recreated a rough facsimile that compiled but no human intelligence was involved in checking the results ran in a way that wasn't obviously lagging.
Same deal with the token bug. It should have been very obvious to a human player tester over the course of a day. But, maybe not obvious to an AI looking at the memory state of a single session.

I do not doubt that there are folks who have gotten thousands of tokens. There are folks who grind PvP for hundreds of matches every PvP. I don't doubt that they just started resetting between each match, which might cut their match output by 10 or 20 matches but yield extra tokens. Those folks were already farming 1* and 2 * covers so they were already getting more than someone who didn't farm would get.
I just don't care if they do. The blame here shouldn't be on the users when it is a bug created by the developer rushing to put out the new engine without proper testing. They are surely feeling pressure from above from when they pissed off the buy clubs which cut into their revenue. I'm sure they needed to have this out for the bean counters.
But to come at it from this angle with this tone at a player base that is already pretty riled up for good reason is pants on head stupid on their part.
They knew which accounts were over grinding. They never said boo to those folks until THEY screwed up. Those folks are just doing what they always did.

I've said this before on those rebalance characters. If the characters after rebalance will benefit dev, those will get it (4* Kingpin, 3* Psylocke) even without us asking. If those benefit players immensely (Gambit, Bishop, Worthy Cap, Chasm), they'll get the nerf bat right away (well, almost). So this 'feature' benefits players immensely. Not surprised at all with dev response.

Lots of cheaters take advantage of loopholes left in the game by the developers. Do you care if other players use the one hit ko hacks in PvP? Is it ok for players to hack resource files to get infinite HP?
Is it their fault for using a trainer program or the devs' fault for not stopping them?

Both of those exploits require external things happening. This bug is literally just open and close the app some of which is being forced by the other bugs they introduced. It is a very different situation.
Those other situations you are referencing require malice and forethought on the user end. This one is just as simple as opening and closing the app. Which again is sometimes happening because of how poorly they rolled it out.

I'm just going to throw in an analogy here which people can choose to take or leave.
If I'm walking past my bank, and my bank has been sending me weird letters and freezing my cards every so often, do I have the right to walk in to the branch and lift £1000 out of an open drawer because they left it open? Would people think it was reasonable for the inconvenience?
I'm with @entrailbucket on this - that digital good might effectively be free (as there is no direct cost to the devs), but it ripples throughout the game economy and makes some people "richer" through what is basically cheating.

Sitting in front of your computer force closing the game every few seconds for hours at a time requires malice and forethought.

Pretty sure most of the folks who continuously tap PvP are on mobile. And they were already playing an unhealthy amount. This bug isn't causing a big change to playstyle from what I can see. In my case the devs response has annoyed me enough that I'm actually behind where I would usually be now. Probably just going to go for 50 wins and then shield out. Partly because the lag makes this almost unplayable and partly because of the tone they came out with in this announcement. Feels gross.

The devs need to take 100% accountability for their screw-up(s), which apparently, they've known about for weeks, if not months. If they are going to be so careless, and not mention apathetic, regarding their own code and unleash this mess on the player base, they shouldn’t be holding the players accountable for such a broken exploit. They need to fix it and move on and just let it go that they screwed up bad enough for some players to get extra loot. It’s their own tiny-kitty fault, not the players’.
This dumpster-fire of a release is already going to create a lot of ill-will in the player community. Rolling back accounts will only set that ill-will ablaze to new levels.

I think a better analogy is the bank screws up your account and tells you to come into the branch to fix it.
They also choose that day to have a promotion where anyone entering the bank gets a free cheeseburger. There is no disclaimer that you can only get one cheeseburger per day. Occasionally they take everyone who is in line and throw them out of the bank forcing them to come back in. After some folks have eaten many cheeseburgers they threaten to take away the interest accrued in their bank account.
Luckily no bank would be that dumb. Unfortunately these devs seem to be.

I think your analogy is too simplistic. The weird letters are the Unity bugs. Ok I can relate to that. You relate getting in line at the bank to dealing with the bugs. In the current real world of MPQ that often means force quitting. But then I disagree with your analogy. You relate the next step as the user taking £1000 from a drawer. I think a better analogy is that someone is putting £1000 into my pocket when I get in line. I didn’t ask to have to deal with the letter. I just had to deal with it. And I didn’t take the money. It was given to me when I was forced to deal with the letter. I think that is a more accurate comparison to what is happening right now.
Edited for grammatical error.

That'll show 'em! Keep playing, just play like a top .1% player instead of a top .01% player!
If people actually walk away from the game they'll change stuff. If you keep playing to get back at them or something, you're only helping these evil devs out.
