But what about the pronunciation (more North/South than Devon/Cornwall)?
Presumably from up there on that fence, it would have to be scooooo.... (deep breathe, hold that oh) ....on0 -
Are you really prepared to walk through this door?
The pronunciation of scone caused the English civil war *- don't know history but I think it's plausible

Surely it was the To ma to, To mar to Act of 1642 closely followed by the Po ta to, Po tar to Act the following year!

Why oh why am I perpetuating this nonsense?
I blame the absence of PVE during boss weekend.2 -
My brother lives in Cornwall, they are proper weird down there. The other week him and my sister-in-law went to a horn blowing thing and watched a film about building a fence. I'll ask him about scones next time we Zoom.

Consider it moderated.
Now it's back to the topic of moderation....

I'm not British nor trying to keep things civil, so I will happily weigh in on the scone debate: clotted cream first. Texture is butter-like, more solid than jam. It needs a base (i.e. the scone) to spread. If you put jam down first, you can't properly distribute the clotted cream, rather you just push the jam around making it all uneven.

I refuse to watch the Minecraft movie out of principle after hearing the lava chicken song but yes I did star in a concert yesterday on Guitar Hero Live. 😎

Good job @Alfje17 will also be familiar with afternoon tea with scones, (but it has to be jam first, and scone rhymes with stone). Anything else just wouldn't be civilised!Good god, man! Who puts jam first?!? Absolutely disgraceful. But yes, scone rhymes with stone.
Though, I'm just an American who's been living in the UK for 15+ years, so what do I know. Don't get me started on "I was sat on the sofa..."

We'll let Mary Berry decide it:

Mary Berry's scone recipe makes the perfect easy tea-time treat, whether jam-and-cream-topped (in whichever order you like), plain or packed with sultanas.

I didn't notice the sultanas bit, ugh, no she is no use.
Paul Hollywood it is then:

I'm sorry, I'm supposed to pipe clotted cream? And the jam is what, poured on still runny?

What on earth ...
Americans will want to eat that like a sandwich. Please don't give them ideas.
