If the initial complaint was "I'm bored of facing and having to use the same few powerful characters every event" then "just use m'Thor and Juggernaut" is probably not the answer they were looking for.I am fairly happy to fight Mighty Thor outside of boost weeks because that is a 95% win.
Maybe take it up with the person who posted that they were tired of facing the same characters?
Not sure there is anything to take up? We can each have our own experiences and thoughts, no?
If someone posts that they're bored of seeing the same characters all the time, saying "who cares, they're easy to beat" has nothing to do with their complaint.
But I never said that.
Fabulous.
I am curious about the strategy you're using to kill 550 Polaris/m'Thor (the combo mentioned in the OP), because I don't find it easy to beat at all.
That team is relatively low on HP (I guess? Is 150k per character low now?) but always comes with Leapfrog, and it's an incredibly fast clock. You need to kill Polaris within 3-4 turns (through Leapfrog) or you eat a guaranteed cascade for somewhere between 500k and a million damage.
There are combinations that allow you to stun one character immediately. Makes it much easier.

This week demonstrates how far Kitty has fallen though, I think I have seen one team with her on. Considering how dominant she used to be it sounds absurd but she needs a buff.I'm on record as saying Kitty was never the problem. When she was dominant, the problem was Rockett. And then Polaris.
Those teams were mostly pretty easy to kill, the real problematic one was Beta Ray Bill with Kitty -- those two could just lock you out of ever doing damage at all.
I think the Kitty passive is one that doesn't ever look like a problem, it just prevents you from doing certain things design-wise with other characters that'd be fine if she didn't exist.

Dude, you are off in la la land. I am not fighting those teams. Y'know it is possible that players here are not all 550? Anyway I will leave you to your insanity and my strategy is I am not you. 🙄
Pretty sure most of this thread is 550 players...

I'm not sure I can help here. I actually seek out the Thor/Polaris teams to attack.
Seeing the same teams is boring... Until you start seeing a new team repeatedly that makes the old team look easy... Then you wish you could go back to fighting those old teams that used to bore you.
I don't know if this is helpful to anyone... Seeing the same 2-3 characters every fight is boring, but I'll take Thor/Polaris over the one turn teams anytime.
If you're not there yet... Congrats.
I took an extended break last year and it didn't take me long to catch back up when I came back. It's a completely different game from when I left though. Maybe you need a break? Or maybe different slices?

I'm really fed up of every single PVP seeing the same cheap, B.s characters in play. New strange event has powered up kitty and Hawkeye and my 1st three matches have been against ascended Polaris and Jane and I've been absolutely trounced by endless cascades and tiles being created. What's the point in having these different events, forcing a character in who you don't want to play and being murdered by the same old boring meta teamups over and over and over again.....?Either that or you take your strongest team in only for an ascended spider-man, may and a few good supports come in and one shot you with critical tiles on turn one.
And to be clear, my account is no slouch I have loads of championed 5* and you just CANNOT compete unless you resign yourself to the fact you have to play the same counter characters to have a chance
The devs NEED to address this I don't understand how they think this is fun.
Game has not been fun since supports were added. They really need to make two seasons. Supports and non supports
Then again that probably still do nothing for me. I went years ago
Pvp 25 wins pure
Pve max progressLast few years
Pvp 12 wins or up to the cp
Pve. Half way to maxThis year
Pvp. Lucky to get 7 wins most is 1 to 3
Pve. Lucky to do 4 clears on 3 easy nodesGame just lost its fun maybe getting all 1s to 550 ruined it cause there nothing to go after now. I will never get all 2s to 5. And 3 and 4. The moon will slam into the earth and the zombie dinos will come back before I get them to 550 😂

Brb/kitty was the meta a long time ago for a pretty brief period. I think it was ihulk that came out soon after Bill, and okoye/hulk dominated everything. Kitty/bill did counter hulkoye pretty well, but was super slow vs hulkoye being the fastest team at the time. Hulkoye soon became the dominant meta.

Supports have totally ruined the game because they are ridiculously OP on some characters.
I'm not in 550 land yet but a lot of my 5* are champed significantly. The problem is that you create a team that's supposed to be (or at least should be) synergistic and yet you come up against the exact same teams time and time again that means you don't stand a chance unless you use the same boring characters to counter them.
What is the point in building your roster if you are then forced to build a team around 3* strange that will still get trounced by Jane and Polaris unless you use Jane/Polaris counters? What's strange even there for? Fodder?
That duo don't even need to be maxed out and they end up murdering you because they're stupidly imbalanced and the devs just don't want to fix or address it.
Same with Juggs lately. A championed team of 5 stars should NOT be getting wiped out in one or two turns by juggs (or similarly Omega red) just because they've slapped May in the team.
In SHIELD for example, I have 5* hAgatha (who I ascended for the sole purpose of hopefully helping to counter omega red/juggs), Champed kitty and Bill and even with immediate protect tiles being buffed every turn by two of the best tile buffers in the game they get wiped out, especially if you have Jane destroying your tiles pretty much straight away.
I then switch and have 5* black king as a Jane counter and the enemy team still ends up with 5x as many AP as I do despite Jane supposedly being countered by King.
I still prefer playing SHIELD as I don't like being forced to use the features character but then you miss out on SOOOOO many rewards.
The devs must know that these meta teams are ruining the game but they won't fix it and the thing is that they COULD. For example, the ridiculous synergy between Polaris and Jane could be fixed simply by altering Jane's mechanic. Instead of destroying the special tiles, she should simply "remove them" so it doesn't trigger polaris' passive to create endless tiles. Both characters would still be super powerful (I mean Polaris can stun for 4 bloody turns with only 7 AP and Jane still creates loads of charged tiles) but they wouldn't be stupidly OP.

So here's some of my roster.
Magik is one of my fave characters but when would I ever get to use her outside of her own PVP event? Magik and the two goblins should have synergy with the tiles but realistically when would that team EVER work? Lol even in story you're forced to use certain characters and when you're not, you might get one or two nodes that aren't even challenging.

I will never stop thinking that Polaris and Jugg were lazy OP character designs. But as long as they were 4s only they weren’t that big of a problem.
And here we are. Everyone who can ascends them and the most of people who will 550 a 4-5 pick at least one of them as their primary target to start so they end up everywhere from 4 land to 550 land.

I use 550 Omega Red (LVL 5 Chimichanga) and Chasm (LVL 4 Totem Dagger) against Polaris and mThor. Target Polaris with match damage immediately, and stay on her until she is dead. Leapfrog usually targets the third, required character over Polaris first due to Omega Red's damage at the start of the round. If Polaris gets sent away and heals, the match gets a lot harder...but it's still winnable more often then not. I still wipe occasionally due to mThor shenanigans, and sometimes my Leapfrog makes Chasm invisible at an inopportune time, but these things happen. shrug
I know not everyone has a 550 Omega Red and Chasm...but we're talking about going up against an Ascended 4-star at LVL 550, so that's probably even more limiting.

Is it not possible to handle the Polaris/MThor team with 5Thanos + Ascended Deathlok using Quantum Realm (75% chance of 6 Purple) + Corvus Glaive (75% chance of 3 purple + 20% chance to fortify a special tile).
With purple boosts you'd be able to get Thanos Purple out immediately and Deathlok will generate constant Purple to let you keep them locked down from board shake (assuming Thanos top 2 colors are higher than Deathloks).
I realize this kind of team is going to be a zero on defense but if you just want wins it should work.

If you just want wins, it's pretty trivial to skip any team that will pose any sort of threat ever.
The issue with the Polaris team or the Juggernaut team (or really, whatever other overpowered thing people are doing) is the fact that I have to run some specific counter to beat them, or do some specific strategy to beat them, and they don't. The best option is to just always use the overpowered characters. There's no incentive for anybody to do different stuff, and so the metagame becomes stagnant -- the very thing OP is complaining about.
It's not a rock/paper/scissors metagame when rock beats everything and paper only beats rock.
1 -
@Bustapup unfortunately this is the metagame that a majority of veteran players actually want, and the devs aren't changing it because those folks are very loud about what they want.
They talk about playing MPQ as "work," "a grind," or "a requirement." For these players, the match-3 part of the game is an annoying obstacle to roster building (interestingly, as a goal unto itself -- the roster is meant to be looked at and appreciated, not used to play the game). Anything that allows them to get through the match-3 stuff faster or with less effort is good, because the game itself is a chore to be avoided and minimized.
Overpowered characters are great as long as they're "easy to beat." A boring, stagnant metagame that only uses the same few characters is irrelevant, because the match-3 part of the game is also irrelevant to them!
In their defense, the devs have basically courted this sort of player over the years. They run the same events with the same fights over and over again and new characters rarely shake up the metagame, so anyone looking for strategy, combo creation, a dynamic metagame, or interesting fights is probably long gone by this point.

Based on what you wrote, Sidewinder should have been the perfect character then. Strongly OP and yet very weak on defense. Yet there were lots of calls to reign him in and players seemed happy when he was.

He was incredibly strong on defense, though. Chasm + Sidewinder could pretty easily turn0 you when run by the AI, and he had a built in Leapfrog effect to make him even stronger.

You don't need any special counter to beat Polaris/mthor. I beat them every chance I see them in pvp with whatever boosted team I'm using. Target Polaris first and she goes down fast from match damage even when she's 550.
Very rarely do they ever get a chance to do much. I much rather take on 550 polaris/mthor than 672 whatever the best boost team is

You generally can't kill her with match damage though, because they always have Leapfrog and she'll go invisible unless you burn all the charges right away.
I just try to have some kind of fast AoE or targeted board destruction, but it's annoying because you only have 3 or 4 turns before they'll cascade you for essentially infinite damage.

In my experience they usually don't have leap frog equipped, probably cause mthor will just blow up their own invisibility tiles.
