Is this a new bug?

So I was in the Punisher LR ~1.5 hours ago and came out of a match to see I had a defensive win. Was a little surprised since my team isn't all that great, and I was still on seed teams. Well, do my next match and I notice that there is a retal in the spot from the guy that lost to me. It seemed odd, but I just assumed it was one of those frequent MPQ server-type issues where maybe it was lagged and I just hadn't gotten the notification yet. Oh, almost forgot - the other weird thing about this retal is the guy's team looked like a seed/tank team, loaner, lvl 30, lvl 30. I went ahead and hit him cause I just wanted to get to 250 and throw in a tank team, then after beating one other guy the same thing happened from the same guy. Got a defensive win, but there's a retal and it's not only a tank team, but a DIFFERENT tank team.

Has anyone seen something like this before or have any idea what happened here?

tl;dr - twice got defensive wins in an LR but received a retal for that opponent who had a tank team in place.

I got a couple of these today, too. At first I thought I was just seeing things...but it happened a couple of times.
  • Yeah, I got a couple of those today as well; first time I've seen something like that.

I had one of those in an LR earlier too. Also just had a 0 pt defeat while tanking in PvP...maybe not a bug, but I've never seen that before! icon_eek.gif

I had 92 points in defensive victories in PVP overnight, and 8 red nodes to skip through, so I can confirm this.
The game treats defensive victories as retaliations, there is no skip tax on them.
Wonder if that's a bug or working as intended.

That behaviour is what I used to use to tank. I had ~40 characters in my stable and I would start an event by attacking people and deliberately losing. Of course once my team was dead I had to attack with a different team, so you would see a rotation of defensive characters on retaliation.

It's gravy if you retaliate, because now I am getting two losses on my MMR for every team I suicide.

And I believe you have always been able to retaliate to an attack, win or lose.

I don't know about that. I have only had retals for teams that I lost to. Except when shielded. Never had a red tile for defensive win.

No, definitely not. I never had red nodes for defensive victories before.
  • A-ha. Overnight I got a handful of odd attacks from lousy teams at high points. Looked completely out of place.

So it must be my early tanking losses -- now offered as retal -- got processed on the other side.

Not sure it it is a bug or a feature, in any case we shall take it into account that in the meantime losses go to retals too.

No, you got retal chance only if they won.
  • I am taking this as a new feature. I guess the purpose is so when u switch to your attacking team to push for your points, all the teams u tanked against have the chance to hit back at your low level team and gain some easy points from your new total...

In other words; it's a new mechanism to deter tanking in PvP.
  • I swear, this game is so backwards. For the non-tanking part of the community, how does it make sense to lose to an opponent, and then have that opponent who knows he can beat you, win again and make you lose even more points???

Actually it's easier to save a retaliation than an open node, so if you're pretty sure you can get a guy with a lot more points than you to retaliation, it might be worth it to take 2 losses and convert a high point opponent on an open node to a high point opponent on a retaliation. And if the guy didn't retaliate then it's no different than just plain old losing.
  • Happening to me in Shield Sim now.
  • Anyone know what team shows up for a victory retal? Normally in pvp when you face someone you face the last team they won with, right? Well what if the person has no wins in a pvp and loses thier first match against someone. What team shows up, the one you used to lose?

Different behavior in different areas of the game, fun!
